Escort Duty. 11.01 Where the Employer requests, either on its own behalf or acting as an agent for the ambulance or any other form of transportation, that an Employee escort a patient being transported through any means (i.e. medivacs), and the Employee agrees to do escort duty, subject to Article 11.01 (d) such Employee shall be considered an Employee of the Employer and;
(a) Shall not lose regular earnings or days off for the time spent resulting from escort. Escort duty shall be counted as the time elapsed from leaving the Facility/Agency to return to the Facility/Agency.
(b) An Employee required to attend the patient and/or while waiting to return and/or while in return travel shall be paid overtime in accordance with Article 8 for the period exceeding normal hours of work within twenty-four (24) hours from the time she commenced her initial scheduled shift. An OTFT Employee on escort duty beyond the twenty-four (24) hour period, who is not scheduled, shall be paid up to a maximum of eight (8) hours at her regular rate of pay as if she had been scheduled, for each subsequent twenty-four (24) hour period.
(c) An Employee on escort duty shall be allowed reasonable expenses for meals and lodging as required on such an assignment. The Employer shall on submission of an expense claim reimburse the Employee the cost of such meals and lodging.
(d) An Employee shall not be required to perform escort duty against her wishes when other Employees are willing to perform this duty.
11.02 Except in an emergency situation, an Employee on escort duty for the Employer shall not be required to attend to more than one patient who requires "one-to-one" care.
11.03 Where an Employee is required to escort a client under Article 11.01 she shall not be required to commence a scheduled shift assignment within twelve (12) hours of her return from escort duty. If such is not satisfactory the Employee shall have the right to designate the scheduled shift or part thereof as an unpaid rest period.
11.04 If an ambulance company or any other party requests the Employer to provide names, addresses or telephone numbers of Employee(s) on staff for escort duty, the Employer shall not do so without written authorization from the Employee.
11.05 Any Employee who consents to or is required to perform escort duty will be provided with orientation to the ambulance and appropriate training to meet the needs of the client being transported.

35.2 All reasonable out-of-pocket expenses shall be reimbursed.
35.3 Rostered time shall be paid as such even though an employee may be travelling, in hotel/motel accommodation, or waiting for transport.
35.4 In respect of non-rostered time not spent in nursing duties:
(1) Periods in hotel/motel accommodation or waiting for transport shall not be counted as working time;
(2) Periods in travelling shall count as working time.

Escort Duty. (i) Periods during which an employee, other than a Director of Nursing, is engaged in nursing duties, viz., in attendance of a resident, shall be paid as working time under this agreement. Where applicable, overtime shall be payable.
(ii) All reasonable out-of-pocket expenses shall be reimbursed.
(iii) Rostered time shall be paid as such, even though an employee may be travelling, in hotel/motel accommodation or waiting for transport.
(iv) In respect of non-rostered time not spent in nursing duties -
(a) Periods in hotel/motel accommodation or waiting for transport shall not be counted as working time.
(b) Periods in travelling shall count as working time.
Escort Duty. An employee reporting for work as called in for escort duty shall be paid at the appropriate rate of pay for time worked with a minimum guarantee of three (3) hours pay. Where such escort duty results in the employee being away from the work site for four (4) hours or more, upon presentation of an appropriate receipt, the employee shall be reimbursed up to a maximum of seven dollars ($7.00) for the purchase of a meal. Reasonable transportation costs will be provided by the employer as required.
Escort Duty. 46.01 Convicted prisoners committed to serve sentences at H.M. Penitentiary will be escorted as required between H.M. Penitentiary and the other satellite provincial penal institutions within the Province by the staff of the bargaining unit.
Escort Duty. When an employee is required to escort a patient, the Employer shall canvass qualified employees in the department for a volunteer. In the event that no employee volunteers, the Employer may then assign an employee to perform the duty.
A) Escort services performed by the employee shall be considered as work performed while still in the employ of the Employer.
B) All terms and conditions of the agreement shall continue in force and effect while the employee is on escort duty. Notwithstanding the foregoing:
i) An employee shall receive her regular pay and where applicable, overtime and other premiums while the patient is in her care, and
ii) An employee shall be paid her straight time rate of pay for all other hours provided that the employee returns to the place she normally works by the next available, suitable transport.
C) All accommodations, meals and related expenses shall be paid by the Employer.
D) Funds may be given to the employee if requested to cover such expenses prior to her leaving for escort duty.
E) No employee shall be required to travel in a vehicle which does not meet the Transport Canada Safety requirements.

Upon written request from the Union, the Employer will meet with the bargaining unit representatives to outline current civil liability coverage for M.G.E.U. employees. The parties agree to participate in a multi-union, multi-employer committee to discuss expanding the scope of the current staff mobility agreement in order to facilitate the movement of staff within and across the acute, long term, and community health care sectors as required to address systemic needs. Wherever possible retroactive pay will be made by separate cheque. In any emergency declared by the Facility or disaster declared by EMO, employees are required to perform duties as assigned notwithstanding any contrary provision in the Collective Agreement. Compensation for unusual working conditions related to such emergency or disaster will be provided in accordance with the Collective Agreement. Where overtime is worked by reason of a disaster plan exercise or fire drill, overtime will be paid in accordance with Article 13. The importance of disaster plan exercises and fire drills is mutually acknowledged by the Employer and the Union and, to this end, participation of all employees is encouraged. The parties acknowledge that in order to support the delivery of effective patient/resident care, it is necessary to have an adequate supply of trained employees. The parties acknowledge that availability of qualified employees may differ throughout the province and there may need to be consideration of unique regional challenges. Therefore the parties agree to establish a Provincial Facility Support Sector Advisory Committee with representation from the Employers and the Unions.
