Personal Leave of Absence (PLOA). ‌ A full-time employee may submit a request to the employees Operations Manager for an unpaid Personal Leave of Absence (PLOA) that shall not exceed thirty (30) days maximum in any rolling twelve (12) month period. All approvals for a PLOA shall be at the sole discretion of the Employer. The Employer assumes no responsibility for and offers no guarantee to the employee approved for a PLOA that that a position will be available to the employee at the end of the leave. In such instance that a position is not available the employee shall be separated from employment. At no time, shall a leave of absence be granted for the purpose of finding alternative work or working for any other employer.
Personal Leave of Absence (PLOA). ‌ A. All full-time nurses otherwise physically fit for work may apply for a personal leave of absence (PLOA) without pay. B. Each situation is judged separately and the granting of any PLOA shall be at the Employer's sole discretion. Such approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. Total system staffing requirements may be considered by the Employer. C. Requests must be in writing as far in advance as possible but at least thirty (30) days in advance of the desired leave date. The Employer must respond within two (2) weeks of submission of the written request. Emergency leave may be approved on shorter notice. All leaves of absence granted will be without pay. Leaves of absence may not be granted to nurses who have not completed their orientation period. D. All PLOA's shall be in writing and an approved PLOA assures the nurse continuation of employment, as long as the conditions of the PLOA are met by the nurse. PLOA's will not normally be granted for more than one hundred eighty (180) days at a time. The Employer shall promptly notify the Association of all such leaves of absence granted. E. Vacation leave may be used during an approved PLOA, but will not continue to accrue. Vacation leave will ceased to accrue on the last day worked by the nurse and will begin again on the first day the nurse returns to active full-time duties.
Personal Leave of Absence (PLOA). Full-time non-probationary employees may be granted at the Employer's discretion an unpaid Personal Leave of Absence ("PLOA") as follows: 1. A PLOA must be at least fifteen (15) calendar days and may not exceed twelve (12) months. 2. A PLOA must be requested in writing at least fifteen (15) calendar days in advance. 3. Employees may not take more than one PLOA within any rolling twenty-four (24) month period. Employees on a PLOA shall continue accruing seniority during the PLOA and may continue existing medical, dental and vision benefits by continuing to pay their normal contributions for such benefits. Employees on a PLOA of less than sixty (60) days shall be returned to their former positions and assignments upon expiration of the PLOA. Employees on a PLOA of greater than sixty (60) days are guaranteed reinstatement to a position in their former classification at the wage rate appropriate to their seniority levels. If such positions are not then available, employees will be offered the first opening in their former classification. If no position is available, employees will be placed on lay off status.

Such a request is 790 considered an excused absence from work without pay wherein the employee is responsible for 791 the full insurance premium amount (100%) consistent with COBRA procedures. 792 If granted a PLOA, employees are required to use all accrued vacation time before the unpaid 793 portion of the leave begins. Employees who request and are granted a PLOA do so with the full 794 recognition that the Employer cannot guarantee that employee will be returned to their formerly 795 held shift either before, or upon return from the leave. The Employer agrees to make every 796 practical effort to return the employee to a comparable position if such an opening exists.

Failure of the employee to report to work on the first scheduled day after the leave expires will be considered a voluntary termination of employment. All Lleaves of absence will be administered in accordance with the law. Seniority will accrue up to 30 days, unless the leave is the result of a compensable Workers’ Compensation injury, in which case the employee shall continue to accrue seniority for up to six (6) three (3) months from the date of leave. Employees will be required to use accumulated PTO down to a bank of eighty (80) hours for all leaves of absence unless they are being compensated through Short Term Disability or the Employee Extended Illness Bank. Leaves that are approved in advance for periods of less than ninety (90) days will entitle the nurse to return directly to her/his former position. Adoptive parents may use up to twelve (12) weeks in compliance with Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of any or all accumulated leave for the purpose of adoption and/or bonding. G. If using combined sick leave and leave without pay teachers who have at least one (1) year experience with the Xxxxxxx County Board of Education will have premiums paid for a total of twelve (12) weeks per year in accordance with the terms of the FMLA, and have their position held prior to such leave.
