PROFESSIONAL LEAVE WITH PAY. Faculty members may be granted leave with pay at the discretion of the Employer for the following purposes: attendance at professional meetings, workshops, conferences or seminars, inter-school visiting or other activities deemed appropriate. Requests for such leave shall be made in writing at least ten days in advance of the date of the leave. Reimbursement for travel while on professional leave with pay shall be made in accordance with Section 4.2 of this agreement.

PROFESSIONAL LEAVE WITH PAY. Professional leave with pay is provided to a faculty member in order to attend professional meetings, conferences, and seminars. A faculty member may be allowed to use up to five (5) days of paid professional leave per academic year and up to one (1) additional day during the summer session, unless the faculty member and the Department Chair mutually agree that additional days may be provided upon making adequate arrangements to cover the faculty member’s responsibilities. The number of faculty members that can be on leave at any one time and the criteria to be used in determining what constitutes paid professional leave shall be specified in the department’s governance documents. In developing governance documents, the parties recognize that the faculty member’s first responsibility is in the classroom. Any such absence requires that suitable arrangements, such as outside readings, research papers, or individual study, be made by the faculty member so that studies may continue during the period of absence. If the faculty member and the Department Chair agree that a substitute should be assigned to the classroom for the period of the instructor’s absence, the faculty member shall identify and the Chair shall assign a substitute, in accordance with Article 4 (Salaries, Salary Increments, and Rates of Pay) and Article 15 (Workload Activities). Requests for professional leave must be approved by the Chair in writing before the faculty member goes on professional leave.
PROFESSIONAL LEAVE WITH PAY. 1. Members of the teaching profession who are working on an advanced degree or are taking courses to enhance their knowledge of their major field, may be granted professional leave. This professional leave with pay should not exceed a total of six (6) days of pre-school and post-school planning periods during any one (1) year and such professional leave with pay should not be granted in excess of five (5) xxxxxxx. 2. The Superintendent after receiving from the Association a list of certified delegates shall grant to each Association delegate two (2) leave days with pay for the purpose of attending the Florida Education Association annual convention. The total number of delegates au- thorized to attend will represent five (5%) percent of the Association membership plus five
PROFESSIONAL LEAVE WITH PAY. Each teacher may be granted, on application to the Superintendent, leave without loss of pay for attending meetings or workshops related to the improvement of instruction or performance of professional duties. Unless special exception is made by the Superintendent, such leave will not exceed three (3) days.
PROFESSIONAL LEAVE WITH PAY. 19.5.1 The Superintendent of Schools, with approval of the licensed employee’s immediate supervisor, may authorize absences of employees for professional purposes with full pay. 19.5.2 Examples of professional leave with pay are as follows: 19.5.2.1 Occasional visiting of other school systems; 19.5.2.2 Active participation by District employees on professional programs; 19.5.2.3 Other professional opportunities that will be likely to extend the outlook and improve the service of the employee. 19.5.3 The employee shall make application for the authorization of such absences at least five (5) working days in advance of their occurrence. 19.5.4 The decision to authorize professional leaves with pay shall be based upon the need of the District.

Justification for the leave should be included on the supporting leave request form. Appropriate activities for professional leave might include: Graduate study in field of specialty; Attendance at workshops, seminars in specialty field; Study to expand scope of professional areas; Other professionally enriching experiences. When an employee is granted professional leave for up to one (1) year, the employee shall be returned to their same position on the same campus or division. The President, or designee, may establish procedures for professional leave. B. Short-Term Professional Leave with Pay. Short-term summer professional leave with pay may be granted to College personnel when such leave will enhance their educational effectiveness, improve College programs, or generally support the best interest of the College. Types of learning experiences which may be considered for approval under this program include attending colleges, universities, private and industry-related technological schools; participating in "on-the-job" training opportunities in government agencies or industry; or other academic research, course development, and publications. Funding will be for salary only.

PROFESSIONAL LEAVE WITH PAY. The principal/supervisor may authorize absence of employees for professional purposes with full pay for the following: 1. State Department meetings when the employee's presence is required or it is in the interest of the District. If the District sends an employee to such a meeting, costs of such attendance shall be reimbursed by the District. 2. Other school-oriented meetings when the employee's presence at such meetings is related to their assignment; normally no more than one (1) member of a department will be sent, and that member will be expected to represent the District and upon return to the District make a report to the Superintendent, department or faculty. Costs of attendance shall be reimbursed by the District. 3. Professional meetings when the employee is a necessary member at such meetings: such as speaker, chairman, president or official delegate, the employee request for leave shall be considered. 4. School visitation leave may be granted for the purpose of visiting other schools, attending meetings or conferences of an educational nature.
