Shift Work Definitions. (a) For the purpose of this clause: (i) Afternoon shift means any shift finishing after 6.00 p.m. and at or before midnight. (ii) Continuous shift work system means work carried on with consecutive shifts throughout the 24 hours of at least six consecutive days without interruption except during breakdowns or meal breaks or due to unavoidable causes beyond the control of the Company. (iii) Day shift means any shift starting subsequent to 7.00 a.m. and finishing not later than 6.00 p.m. Provided that an Employee working day shift and required to be on duty between 6.00 a.m. and 7.00 a.m. shall be paid overtime for all time worked before 7.00 a.m. at the appropriate overtime rate in lieu of the quarter time extra hereinafter provided for shift work. (iv) Night shift means any shift finishing subsequent to midnight and at or before 8.00 a.m. (v) Roster shift means a shift of which the Employee concerned has had at least seven days notice.

Shift Work Definitions. 21.1 For the purpose of this clause: (a) Afternoon shift means any shift finishing after 6.00 p.m. and at/or before midnight. (b) Continuous work means any work carried on with consecutive shifts of employees throughout the 24 hours of each of at least six consecutive days without interruptions except during breakdowns or meal breaks or due to unavoidable causes beyond the control of the employer. (c) Night shift means any shift finishing subsequent to midnight and at/or before 8.00 a.m. (d) Rostered shift means of which the employee concerned has had at least 48 hours notice. 21.2 This subclause shall apply to shift workers on continuous work as defined. 21.3 The ordinary hours of such shift workers (which may be averaged) shall not exceed: (a) eight in any one day; nor (b) forty-eight in any one week; nor (c) eighty-eight in fourteen consecutive days; nor (d) one hundred and fifty two in twenty-eight consecutive days. 21.4 Subject to the following conditions such shift workers shall work at such times as the employer may require: (a) a shift shall consist of not more than eight hours, inclusive of crib time; (b) except at the regular change-over of shifts an employee shall not be required to work more than one shift in each twenty-four hours; (c) twenty minutes shall be allowed to shift workers each shift for crib which shall be counted as time worked. 21.5 This subclause shall apply to shift workers not upon continuous work as defined. The ordinary hours of such shift workers (which may be averaged) shall not exceed either: (a) thirty-eight in any week to be worked in five shifts of up to eight hours; or (b) seventy-six in fourteen consecutive days in which case an employee shall not, without payment for overtime, be required to work more than eight consecutive hours on any shift or more than five shifts in any week; or (c) one hundred and fourteen in twenty-one consecutive days in which case an employee shall not, without payment of overtime, be required to work more than eight consecutive hours on any shift or more than six shifts in any week. 21.6 Such ordinary hours shall be worked continuously except for meal breaks at the discretion of the employer. An employee shall not be required to work for more than six hours without a break for a meal. 21.7 Except at regular change over of shifts an employee shall not be required to work more than one shift in each twenty-four hours. 21.8 A shift worker may be required to work reasonable additional hours. 21...

Provided that, where the Company and the majority of Employees concerned agree, a roster system may operate on the basis that the weekly average of 36 ordinary hours is achieved over a period which exceeds 28 consecutive days. Subject to the provisions of this subclause, shiftworkers will work at such time as the Company may require. 20.2 A shift will consist of not more than ten hours inclusive of crib time. Provided that: a) in any arrangement of ordinary working hours where the ordinary working hours are to exceed eight on any shift the arrangement of hours will be subject to the agreement of the Company and the majority of Employees concerned. b) by agreement between the Company, and the majority of Employees in the plant, work section or sections concerned, ordinary hours not exceeding twelve on any day may be worked subject to: ● proper health monitoring procedures being introduced; ● suitable roster arrangements being made; ● proper supervision being provided; ● adequate breaks being provided; ● an adequate trial or review process being implemented. 20.3 Except at the regular change-over of shifts, an Employee will not be required to work more than one shift in each 24 hours. 20.4 Twenty minutes will be allowed to shiftworkers each shift for crib which will be counted as time worked. 20.5 This sub clause will apply to shiftworkers not on continuous work as defined.
