CAREER BREAK LEAVE. AT A GLANCE 17.21.1 A career break is an extended period of unpaid leave. An employee may be eligible to take a career break for reasons that are not covered by the usual leave entitlements. For example: 1. Extension of skills that may be used within Council, or personal development 2. Family responsibilities e.g. dependent care, elder care 3. Significant social or community responsibilities e.g. volunteer work for a community organisation 4. Extended travel opportunities 5. Completing study 6. Work experience in an organisation that is not a direct competitor of Council. 17.21.2 An employee will be eligible for a career break when: 17.21.2.1 they have completed two years of continuous service prior to commencing the career break; 17.21.2.2 all outstanding leave and accrued long service leave has been taken; 17.21.2.3 they have applied to their Section Manager and the Human Resources Unit, providing a summary of the benefits to be gained from the career break by both Council and the employee; and 17.21.2.4 the leave has been approved by both the Section Manger and the Human Resources Unit. 17.21.3 Approval of a career break remains at the Section Manager and the Human Resources Unit discretion, taking into consideration the employee’s performance, immediate business needs and the benefits for Council and the employee. Any application for career break leave must be submitted at a minimum of three months prior to the date on which the employee wishes to commence the career break. 17.21.4 At the conclusion of the approved career break, the employee will be entitled to return to their previous position. Where the position no longer exists, the employee may be eligible for redeployment or redundancy in accordance with the terms of clause 33 of this Agreement. 17.21.5 A career break is not considered a break in continuity of service. However, long service leave, annual leave, superannuation, personal leave and other leave entitlements do not accrue during the career break. Employees may make their own contributions to their superannuation fund during the period of the career break. Any coverage of the superannuation death and impairment benefits would be as per individual policy conditions. 17.21.6 The length of a career break may vary from six weeks to 12 months. When taken in conjunction with parental leave, the total unpaid leave may be up to 24 months.

CAREER BREAK LEAVE. 46.1 An ongoing employee who has at least two years of continuous service with DHA may request unpaid career break leave of up to six months 46.2 Approval of leave under this clause will be subject to consideration of any operational impact and any costs involved in mitigating that impact. Career break leave may only be taken by an employee once every three years. 46.3 Any leave approved under this clause will not count as service for any purpose.
CAREER BREAK LEAVE. This clause applies to Council and its eligible permanent employees who have taken all of their accrued annual and long service leave. You may request an extended period of leave between 4 weeks to 12 months. The leave must be for a specific purpose, that is beneficial to both you and Council.
CAREER BREAK LEAVE. In accordance with Epworth HealthCare policy, an employee may take a period of up to 12 months unpaid leave for the purpose of Sabbatical/Career Break Leave. Such absence will not break the continuity of service, but will not count towards accrual of any leave or other entitlements under this Agreement. Absence on such leave will not be counted as service towards reclassification of grade. Provided further that any annual leave entitlements in excess of four weeks shall be taken prior to Career Break Leave.
CAREER BREAK LEAVE. 44.1. An Employee may apply for career break leave of up to three (3) months leave without pay after three (3) years Continuous Service with the Company. 44.2. Career break leave may be approved to support requests from Employees to further enhance their professional and personal development that cannot be ordinarily achieved during normal work time. 44.3. Career break leave must be applied for six (6) months in advance and approval is subject to a consideration of the operational requirements of the Company. Career Break leave may be used in conjunction with other leave, such as long service leave.
CAREER BREAK LEAVE. 66.1 After a five (5) year qualifying period a permanent Employee may apply for and take, with Epworth’s consent, period of up to 12 months unpaid leave for the purpose of Sabbatical / Career Break leave. 66.2 Such absence will not break the continuity of service but will not count towards accrual of any leave or other entitlements under this Agreement. 66.3 Absence on such leave will not be counted as service towards reclassification of Grade.

CAREER BREAK LEAVE. 9.7.1 Upon application and approval by NextSense, all Employees, other than a casual Employee, who have completed at least five (5) years of continuous service with NextSense, will be entitled to leave without pay to: a. pursue alternate career opportunities, insofar that it does not present as a conflict of interest (perceived or actual) to the work the Employee ordinarily performs for NextSense; or b. work in an overseas volunteer program approved by NextSense; or c. take a prolonged break of at least one (1) year from NextSense for other personal reasons, otherwise not captured within any other leave entitlement under this Agreement.
CAREER BREAK LEAVE. 60.1 A permanent employee may elect to purchase one year’s paid leave with salary payments over the preceding 4 years (and the year of paid leave) averaged at a rate of 80% per year. 60.2 Applications for Career Break Leave will be considered having regard to the operational requirements of Tourism Australia. 60.3 Once a period of Career Break Leave has been approved, it will not be rescinded by Tourism Australia unless exceptional circumstances arise. 60.4 Career Break Leave counts as service for all purposes. The employee’s salary for superannuation purposes will be his/her salary as if he/she had not purchased leave. 60.5 Changes in an employee’s salary or hours of work after entering into a Career Break Leave arrangement will be reflected in the amount of paid leave available or the amount deducted from their salary. 60.6 The Career Break Leave period will be 12 months and employees are expected to stay on the arrangement for the whole period. 60.7 Salary for any unused Career Break Leave purchased will be refunded: a) at the end of the leave period; or b) if an employee's employment is terminated for any reason prior to the Career Break Leave period. 60.8 Employees on the Career Break Leave arrangement who have accessed, but not fully paid for, their leave when they cease employment with Tourism Australia, will be treated as having been “overpaid” on leaving Tourism Australia, and any monies owing will be deducted from their final monies, in accordance with the FW Act.
