Extended Educational Leave. The Employer agrees to provide extended education leave, without accumulation of credits, for periods of a minimum of one (1) school year;
Extended Educational Leave. This Letter of Understanding is entered into to provide increased access under controlled circumstances to longer term educational leave for both marine and non-marine training not specifically referenced in the Collective Agreement. The terms and conditions under which an employee may be granted such educational leave and the provision of certain benefits while the employee is on such leave are as follows:
Extended Educational Leave. Members of the bargaining unit shall have the right to apply for an extended educational leave for a continuous period of six (6) or twelve (12) months after having completed a period of seven (7) years of service in the bargaining unit at a State University or, if such leave has been previously granted to him, after having completed a period of seven (7) years of service in the bargaining unit following the last such leave. Requests for leave shall be submitted in writing by the administrator to the Chief Administrative Officer to whom he reports. The Chief Administrative Officer shall forward within fourteen (14) days of the administrator’s request and any other materials submitted by the administrator to the President of the University together with his written recommendations and a statement indicating whether the work of the administrative area in which the applicant serves can be so arranged as to be carried forth effectively during the period of leave. The Chief Administrative Officer shall further set forth in detail a report summarizing the work the administrator intends to perform during the leave and shall further indicate such work is consistent with the principles of educational leave. The President shall, at his sole discretion, determine whether to grant or deny the request. Whenever the President shall have declined to grant such leave, he shall transmit his reasons therefore in writing to the administrator whose request for leave has been denied.
(a) Applications for educational leave may be made for the following purposes:
(i) Study and/or research, including related travel;
(ii) Creative work in the administrator’s field of endeavor.
(b) The administrator shall, prior to the granting of educational leave, enter into a written agreement with the Board of Trustees that upon the termination of such leave he will return to the University for a period equal to twice the length of such leave and that, in default of completing such service, he will refund to the Commonwealth, unless excused therefrom by the Board for reasons satisfactory to it, an amount equal to such proportion of salary received by him while on leave as the amount of service not actually rendered as agreed bears to the whole amount of service agreed to be rendered.
(c) Salary payments during educational leave shall be: One-half (1/2) pay if leave is granted for a full year; full pay if leave is granted for one-half year.
Extended Educational Leave. After one (1) year of continuous employment, permission may be granted for leave of absence without pay for study without loss of accrued benefits to a limit of twenty-four (24) months.

The employee shall continue to acquire seniority when the training is marine related. His seniority will be frozen when the training is not related to the industry. Where an employee undertakes a course of study to upgrade or attain a recognized seagoing certificate, coverage under the Health Plan may be continued for up to twelve (12) months subject to the employee paying the premiums. Where the employee is on non-marine education leave the present option for extended coverage of two (2) months shall apply. The employee will be entitled to immediate reinstatement of coverage on return from such leave under and above. This Letter shall not interfere with layoff procedures and is void where the layoff is permanent. APPENDIX Agreement)

Extended Educational Leave. In the discretion of the Sheriff, an unpaid extended educational leave of up to six (6) months may be granted to full time, non-probationary employees for the purpose of taking accredited courses directly related to law enforcement. No more than one (1) employee will be permitted such leave at any time. During the leave provided by this Section, an employee may elect to pay at his own cost the required premiums for the hospitalization and other insurance coverages set forth in this Agreement. An employee's seniority shall be retained during such leave of absence, but he shall not accrue any additional seniority. An employee granted an extended educational leave may, if the Sheriff in his discretion so elects, be employed on a part-time basis as a Special Deputy on the same terms and conditions of any other Special Deputy.
Extended Educational Leave. 1. This leave may be granted at the discretion of the Board.
2. Extended leave may be granted to a teacher wishing to further his/her educational/professional qualifications and who has a minimum of four (4) years continuous service in the District. Consideration may be granted to a reduced service requirement, but in no case would this be less than a period of three (3) years continuous years of service.
a. This leave shall be granted without pay. The teacher will be guaranteed the same position in the same school at the conclusion of the leave.
b. If the same position does not exist, the Principal / Vice Principal, in consultation with the teaching staff of the school and the returning teacher, shall develop a teaching assignment for the returning teacher which includes any remaining elements of the position previously held.
3. Application for this leave shall be made not less than four (4) months in advance of the expected date for commencement of the leave.
4. The teacher shall be entitled to a continuation of all eligible employee benefits provided that such continuation shall be at no cost to the Board. Upon the successful completion of a Board approved program of studies and the completion of one more year in the employ of the Board the teacher shall be reimbursed the full cost of the benefits as per Article G.28. Such reimbursement will be made prior to June 30 of the school year in which the employee returns to the District.
5. It shall be the responsibility of the teacher to advise the Superintendent in writing of his/her intentions to return to the position previously held not less than four (4) months prior to the expiration of the leave.
6. A teacher who fails to notify the Superintendent in writing of his/her intention to return to the position previously held, by the specified date, will be deemed to have resigned from School District #87 (Stikine).
7. Upon successful completion of an approved course of studies, teachers on this leave shall receive an experience credit for the purpose of increments.
8. Teachers on this leave shall receive an experience credit for the purpose of seniority.
