Sick Bank Leave. 1. Any actively employed member of the bargaining unit covered by this agreement is eligible for membership in this sick bank. WREA members will notify the Sick Bank Committee by October 1st, or within sixty (60) days of hire, that they want to contribute to the sick bank.
2. Any contributing member of this sick bank is eligible to receive benefits.
3. Membership in this bank shall be voluntary. Each member shall make an initial non-returnable contribution of two (2) sick days.
4. If the bank's total number of accumulated days falls below five hundred (500), members shall contribute one (1) day every successive year until the member has contributed a total of five (5) sick days, as deemed necessary by the Sick Leave Bank Committee.
5. Any sick day contributions made to the bank will be permanently deducted from the Member's sick day total (i.e., a member who donates five (5) days would have a sick leave cap of one hundred seventy-five (175) days permanently).
6. Any Sick Bank days shall be carried over to successive years.
7. Sick Bank days may only be drawn after an applicant has exhausted all accumulated or accrued sick days.
8. Sick Bank days may only be granted for the applicant's extended disability resulting from illness and/or accident.
9. The Sick Bank shall be administered by a Sick Bank Leave Committee consisting of five (5) WREA members, designated by the President or his designee. Decisions by the Committee require a majority vote (3).
10. Applications for benefits can be made by an active, contributing member of the Sick Bank. Applications must be in writing, and at least twenty (20) days prior to the point at which the employee's sick leave is exhausted. (For extenuating circumstances the twenty (20) day waiting period can be waived.) The application must be accompanied by a doctor's letter certifying the need for extended leave and estimating the number of days needed for recovery.
11. The Sick Bank Leave Committee cannot act without a physician's statement.
12. The initial grant of sick leave by the Sick Bank Leave Committee cannot exceed twenty (20) days. Additional leave may be extended upon reconsideration of need by the Sick Bank Leave Committee.
13. The decision of the above Sick Bank Leave Committee shall be final and binding upon the teachers, the Committee, and the Association with respect to the administration of the sick leave bank and shall not be subject to grievance or arbitration.
Sick Bank Leave. A sick bank leave is established for medical reasons after the bargaining unit member has exhausted sick leave benefits. Each bargaining unit member electing to participate in the bank shall contribute up to five (5) sick days to the bank. The days in the bank may accumulate to a maximum of ninety (90): When the maximum days are obtained, new bargaining unit members may join the sick bank without contributing to the sick bank until it becomes necessary to accumulate again. Bargaining unit members who initially opted not to participate in the sick bank may join at the beginning of a succeeding school year by contributing five (5) sick days. These additional days may cause the total accumulation to rise above ninety (90) days. A four (4) member screening committee from the Association shall receive applications for request of days from the sick bank.
Sick Bank Leave. Committee The Association shall establish a Sick Leave Bank Committee of not more than seven members, not less than one member of each administrative unit.
Sick Bank Leave. A. The Board, in cooperation with the Association, shall establish a Sick Leave Bank on a mandatory basis. The Association shall develop and publish guidelines for the administration of the Bank and shall administer the Bank.
B. ESPs shall contribute two (2) days of sick leave to the Bank upon starting the fourth year of continued service; ESPs shall become eligible to withdraw from the Bank upon making such contribution. The Association will determine when participants in the Bank must contribute additional days.
C. Technology Twelve (12) month ESPs hired prior to July 1, 2019 who contributed three (3) days of sick leave to the sick leave bank for classified employees shall have those days transferred to the Association’s Bank and shall be eligible to withdraw from the Bank. Twelve-month ESP hired after July 1, 2019, shall contribute three (3) days of sick leave to the Bank upon starting the fourth year of continued service and shall become eligible to withdraw from the Bank upon making such contributions. The Association will determine when participants in the Bank must contribute additional days.
D. Audiology Assistants hired prior to July 1, 2019, who contributed three (3) days of sick leave to the sick leave bank for classified employees shall have those days
E. Unused sick days at termination/retirement will be transferred to the Bank. The maximum number of days that can be transferred yearly to the ESO Sick Leave Bank is the collective number of one hundred (100) days per year.
F. At the time of retirement, as may be permitted by the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, a bargaining unit member may request to withdraw from the Bank the number of days equal to the number of days deposited and unused by the employee.
Sick Bank Leave. Participants who have exhausted all personal sick leave days may apply to the Sick Leave Bank Review Board for additional sick leave days. The Sick Leave Bank Review Board shall consist of three (3) teachers (one primary, one intermediate, and one middle school) elected by the process established by the GEA; a principal, elected by a process established by the Administration; two (2) representatives from the non-certified staff, one of which is an Educational Associate, elected by a process established by the Association; and the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. The Board shall operate by consensus. Full-time employees shall make a one-time contribution of one sick day at the time of hire. The guidelines for use of the Sick Leave Bank shall be developed by the Sick Leave Bank Review Board and shall be subject to approval by the Board. Participants shall not hold the Sick Leave Bank Review Board or the Administration of School District 34 liable for any decision made by the Sick Leave Bank Review Board.
Sick Bank Leave is available for maternity/paternity leave for a maximum of 24 days (6 weeks) of leave. Extenuating circumstances will be considered by the Sick Bank Committee on an individual basis.
Sick Bank Leave. A sick leave bank is hereby established whereby an employee covered by the B.A.S.E. bargaining agreement, faced with personal or immediate family illness or injury, may access sick leave days from the bank. The following applies:
Sick Bank Leave. Members of the Association shall be permitted to contribute one (1) day from his/her sick leave accumulation reserve each School year to a Sick Leave Bank which shall be established to aid participating members who personally suffer prolonged illness and whose sick leave accumulation has been exhausted. Sick leave bank time does not apply in cases of illnesses other than illnesses of the unit member.
(a) Membership is open to all members of the Association.
(b) In order to participate in the Sick Leave Bank, the form shown in Appendix G of the Agreement must be submitted to the Superintendent’s Office as follows:

Sick Bank Leave. The Board agrees to the establishment of a Sick Leave Bank by the Association. The intent of the Bank is to provide extended sick leave to eligible teachers who incur a period of prolonged personal illness. The Association President or designee shall administer the Sick Leave Bank. Eligible teachers’ participation in the Bank shall be on a voluntary basis, subject to the rules and regulations established by the Association. All matters that concern the policies and administration of the Sick Leave Bank shall be governed by the Association. The Association agrees with respect to the operation of the Sick Leave Bank that it will hold harmless, defend, and indemnify the Board, its members, employees and/or agents as regards any action, complaint, or suit of any type. In the event any action, complaint or suit of any type in any form shall be brought against the Board, its members, employees and/or agents, the Board shall retain the exclusive right to select counsel to defend such action, complaint, or suit and/or to determine whether such action, complaint, or suit should be compromised or settled. The Association shall pay the cost for the defense.
