Voluntary Leave of Absence. Upon written request to the Human Resources Department, the Board agrees to approve a voluntary leave of absence for any Occasional Teacher on the Occasional Teacher roster. Such leave may be for a period up to and including one school year. The Occasional Teacher’s name will be returned to the roster upon receipt of and in accordance with a written request from the Occasional Teacher. The Occasional Teacher shall maintain the seniority date as at the time of taking the leave.
Voluntary Leave of Absence. (a) Voluntary Leave of Absence – When the requirements of the Company permit, an Employee upon written request through the Employee’s immediate supervisor may be granted a voluntary leave of absence without pay for legitimate personal reasons. Except in cases of emergency, written requests for voluntary leave of absence must be submitted at least one month in advance of the requested leave.
(b) The granting of leave is at the sole discretion of the Company, however, requests will be considered in order of seniority among those outstanding at the time of granting.
(c) The seniority of an Employee will continue to accrue during the full period of the leave.
Voluntary Leave of Absence. During a period of impending layoffs, the Board of Education may grant a voluntary leave of absence without pay and without paid fringe benefits when such a leave would be to the benefit of the District. A teacher granted such a leave cannot return prior to the established expiration date of the leave without Board approval. At the teacher's request the teacher on leave may be allowed to substitute teach at the substitute teacher rate of pay. A teacher on such leave may continue insurance coverage at the teacher's expense. Arrangements for the continuation of coverage must be made through the business office at the time the leave is granted.
Voluntary Leave of Absence. Employees with seniority may apply for a Leave of Absence without loss of seniority if a written application is submitted and approved in accordance with the Policy of the Board.
Voluntary Leave of Absence. Subject to the sole and exclusive discretion of the Board, an Occasional Teacher may have his/her name removed from an Occasional Teachers' List for a period of up to and including one school year. The Occasional Teacher shall be returned to an Occasional Teacher List at the end of the leave provided that the Occasional Teacher advises the Board's Human Resources Department thirty (30) days prior to the end of the leave.
Voluntary Leave of Absence. WITHOUT PAY - Voluntary leave of absence of fifteen (15) calendar days or more shall be in accordance with the following:
.01 When the requirements of the Company permit, an employee, upon written request through his/her manager at least twenty-one (21) calendar days in advance of requested commencement date, may be granted a voluntary leave of absence or extension thereof without pay for a period not to exceed a total of ninety (90) consecutive calendar days. The twenty-one (21) day requirement may be waived, subject to extenuating circumstances.
.02 Approval for the voluntary leave of absence without pay shall be in writing, stating the date the leave of absence is to commence and terminate.
.03 If the request for voluntary leave of absence without pay is denied, the employee shall be so advised in writing, with the reasons therefore.
.04 The voluntary leave of absence without pay may be extended for additional periods upon written request to the -Labour Relations Representative - Finance and copy to the Shop Committee, however, an extension or extensions to the leave of absence beyond ninety (90) days will be granted only with the mutual consent of the Labour Relations Representative - Finance and the Shop Committee. Such requests must be made no later than twenty-one (21) calendar days prior to the termination of the authorized voluntary leave of absence. The twenty-one (21) day requirement may be waived subject to extenuating circumstances.
.05 When a voluntary leave of absence without pay, or extension thereof, is granted, the employee shall continue to accrue seniority during the leave of absence. Any effect the leave of absence might have on Company service, insurance or other benefits shall be in accordance with Company Regulations.
.06 Should the employee engage in other employment while on voluntary leave of absence, his/her name shall be removed from the seniority list and his/her service with the Company shall be terminated unless special permission has first been obtained from the Company and the local Union. When such permission has been granted, the employee shall be so advised, in writing by the Company and copies shall be sent to the local Union.
.07 An employee returning from an approved voluntary leave of absence shall be returned to his/her former position or a comparable position in the same classification, subject to Article 10.

Voluntary Leave of Absence. Personnel requesting a voluntary leave of absence to further their education or to pursue other personal endeavours may be granted such leave. It is agreed the members will maintain their seniority status with the Service.
Voluntary Leave of Absence. An Employee may request a voluntary leave of absence to a maximum of ninety (90) consecutive calendar days without pay. In order for Employees to maintain their seniority, written permission for such leave of absence must be obtained from the General Manager. An extension to the ninety (90) days may be requested. If the Employee takes a job elsewhere during this leave of absence without joint approval of the Company and the Union, he will be considered as having terminated his employment. Approval, when granted, shall indicate the commencement and termination dates of the leave, with a copy to the Union.
Voluntary Leave of Absence. (a) A teacher holding a contract with the Simcoe County District School Board, at the discretion of the Director of Education or designate, may be granted a leave of absence for reasons mutually agreed upon between the applicant and the Board, without pay and without accumulation of sick leave credits. The application for leave must be submitted to the Superintendent of Employee Services by February 15 for leaves starting the following September and by October 15 for leaves starting at the beginning of Semester II of that school year. Leaves commencing at other times must be submitted at least three months in advance of the planned start date.
(b) Teachers wishing to retain the employee benefits coverage must assume the full cost of the fringe benefits plan during the leave of absence. Arrangements for payment must be made prior to commencing the leave.
(c) Upon expiration of a voluntary leave of absence, which did not exceed two years, the teacher will be assigned to the original position (including position of responsibility) in the original school subject to the provisions of Article 27.
(d) In the event that a teacher is granted, a voluntary leave of absence, which exceeds two years, upon expiration of the leave the teacher will be, assigned a position in the county subject to the provisions of Article 27.
(e) A teacher on a voluntary leave of absence must give notice, in writing, to the Principal and/or the Superintendent of Employee Services of his/her intention to return, or request a renewal:
(i) by February 15 of the year of leave for return or renewal in September of the following school year, or
(ii) by two (2) months in advance, for return or renewal at the beginning of the second semester of the school year.
(f) Upon re-assignment, the seniority and the accumulated sick leave days obtained before the leave was commenced will be reinstated.
(g) In cases where absence is compensable under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, the period of absence to be charged to the sick leave credits shall be equal to the payment made by the Board to the teacher.
(h) Teachers on Voluntary Leaves of Absence will maintain good standing status with the Ontario College of Teachers during the period of the leave and will provide proof of good standing prior to returning from the leave to normal duties.
(i) The approval and/or timing of voluntary leaves of absence may be dependent on the availability of suitably qualified replacement.
