Leave for Union Activities. Upon request by the Union, leave without pay will be granted to any employee duly authorized to represent employees of this bargaining unit at:
a) Executive, Council meetings or Conventions of the Union and Labour Education Seminars. A written request for such leave shall be submitted at least twenty (20) days in advance. Such leave shall be limited to a total of four (4) employees at any one time, and to a maximum aggregate total of four hundred and fifty (450) working hours in any calendar year. The maximum leave for any individual Union official shall not exceed sixty (60) hours and one hundred (100) working hours for an Executive Officer. The Company will consider reasonable requests from the Union to increase the individual and/or aggregate maximum. Such leave shall not constitute a break in continuity of service in seniority, severance pay, or other benefits under this Agreement.
b) In order to attend the CEP National Convention every other year (or every third year) up to four (4) employees will be released and the maximum aggregate total of working hours may be increased by an additional one hundred thirty (130) working hours, exclusive of the individual limits in above to attend the CEP National Convention. The Company will be advised of the convention dates as far in advance as possible. A written request for such leave will be submitted to the Company at least sixty (60) days in advance.
c) It is understood that operational requirements may prevent the release of particular employee(s) under this Article and in such case the Local Union shall be allowed to name the alternate(s), however such requests for leave will not be unreasonably denied.
d) An employee on unpaid Union leave under this Article shall be compensated at his/her regular rate for the leave by the Company. The Company will then invoice the Union for reimbursement of such compensation which shall be paid by the Union within fifteen (15) days of the date of the invoice.
e) In addition, up to one (1) employee may accept a full-time elective position with the Union or an official labour body for a period not exceeding two (2) years. Any additional yearly periods may be granted at the Company’s discretion upon receipt of a written request from the employee and the President of the Union. Leave for Union Activities. (a) Employees shall be granted leave of absence without pay when delegated to perform necessary union activities. Such time shall not exceed three (3) weeks per employee in any one (1) year. When such leave involves a period of one (1) week (five (5) working days) or more, the Employer will be provided with at least two (2) weeks advance notice in writing. In all other instances, leave for union activities for periods of less than one (1) week's duration will be granted provided that the work requirements of the Employer permit it. The one-hundred (100) days provided for in Article 3.04(a) are included in the above-mentioned three (3) weeks.
(b) Employees shall be granted up to three (3) hours leave of absence with pay if required for the purpose of travelling to a COPE Local 491 Annual Regional Union Meeting, provided the work requirements of the Employer permit it.
(c) The Employer recognizes the rights of employees to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon written request, the Employer will grant leave of absence without pay and loss of seniority so that employees may be candidates in a federal, provincial, or municipal election.
(d) Any employee who is elected or selected for a full-time or part-time position with the Union, or any body with which the Union is affiliated, or who is elected to public office, shall be granted leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority, by the Employer, for a period of two (2) years subject to renewal on application to the Employer for successive periods of two (2) years each.
(e) Upon written request to the National Secretary-Treasurer, and provided permission is granted, members representing COPE Local 491 on Provincial Boards, Federations, Labour Councils, or serving on committees for the CLC or other labour organizations, shall receive time off without pay and without loss of seniority and benefits.
(f) An employee returning from an approved leave of absence which permitted him/her to serve in a full-time elective public office or full-time elective office within a provincial federation of labour or the CLC shall be placed in the position occupied prior to the leave and in the office in which the employee worked prior to the leave provided that such position is vacant or filled temporarily not permanently. Leave for Union Activities. 1 The employer shall allow an employee to take part in activities of the trade union of which he is a member, unless the interests of the institution dictate otherwise. In addition to the definition in Article 1.1 (definitions), for the purposes of this article union also includes an affiliated association. 2 The following regulations apply for employees with full-time working hours:
Leave for Union Activities. 24.01 Subject to operational requirements, the Employer will grant leave of absence without pay for not more than three
Leave for Union Activities. The parties recognize that in order for Union representatives to fulfil their responsibilities towards the employees in the best way possible, leaves for Union activity are necessary, and will be granted as follows:
a) The University grants the Union a bank of two hundred and twenty-five (225) days of leave for Union activities each year. These days can be taken per hour, per half-day, or per day.
b) The Union provides the immediate supervisor, with copy to the Human Resources Department, the information concerning leave for Union activities, and this, in principle, at least seven (7) working days prior to the absence.
c) When the entire allotment of time has been used, the leaves will be without loss of pay, but will be reimbursed by the Union. The Union will reimburse all amounts within thirty days of the agreement between the parties on the amount owed. Such payments will be available to the units from which the leave was granted.
d) The above-mentioned provisions will apply to any leave for Union activity with the exception of those provided for in clause 9.03, 9.06 and 9.07.
Leave for Union Activities. 23.01 The Employer, on receiving one (1) weeks’ notice in writing from the Union, will grant leave of absence without pay to not more than two (2) employees at any one
(1) time to attend Union conventions or conferences. Such leaves inclusively shall not exceed an accumulated total of ten (10) days per year and shall be permitted only if the operations of the Employer permit, but shall not be unreasonably withheld.
23.02 When an employee is elected or appointed to a full-time position with OPSEU, the Employer shall grant a leave of absence without pay and continuation of benefit coverage paid by OPSEU and without loss of seniority for the durations of such leave. At the end of the assignment, the employee shall, upon two (2) weeks’ notice be returned to the position held immediately prior to the commencement of the leave or to a comparable position with no decrease in pay should the original position be eliminated.
23.03 Leave of absence with no loss of pay and with no loss of credits shall be granted to an employee elected as an Executive Board Member of the Union. The Union will reimburse the Employer for the salary and benefits paid to the employee.
Leave for Union Activities. 37.1 Whenever possible, and on reasonable notice, employees who have been elected to responsible positions within the Union, shall be entitled to special leave without pay for attendance at Union meetings, functions or conventions. Such leave for union activities shall only be approved when appropriate substitute staffing arrangements can be made, and where there are no additional costs to the Employer.

(c) Upon written request by the Union, the Company agrees to release without loss of pay at the basic rate or leave credits, three (3) employees named by the Union in order to attend grievance meetings with the Company as provided for in Article 6; but any time spent in such meetings shall not be considered for the purpose of determining overtime pay if the meetings extend beyond a normal tour.
