Substitution Pay. Where an employee is directed by the Employer to perform the principal duties in a higher paying position within the bargaining unit, they will receive the rate of the new salary range which is the closest step at least eight per cent above their current rate, but not more than the top of the new salary range.
Substitution Pay. (a) An employee will be granted substitution pay where the employee is:
(1) designated to perform the principal duties of or temporarily substitute in a higher paying position, or
(2) assigned to perform duties of a higher paying position which would warrant a higher classification.
(b) The employee shall receive the rate for the job, where a single rate is established.
(c) Substitution pay is not payable when an employee has not been designated or assigned by the Employer to substitute, pursuant to (a)(1) or (2) above, or where an employee's current position normally requires periodic substitution in the higher position as defined in the functional job description. Where this job description requires periodic substitution, substitution pay shall not be payable during periods of vacation relief in the higher position or for periods of absence substitution of seventy (70) consecutive work hours or less in the higher position. Substitution in excess of the seventy (70) consecutive work hours shall be payable from the commencement of the first shift of substitution. Substitution is not payable for any period of substitution during vacation relief in the higher position.
(d) Payment for leave under Clauses 20.1 and 20.2 will be made at an employee's basic pay, except if an employee has been working in a higher paid position than his/her regular position for a majority of his/her regularly scheduled hours in the sixty (60) days preceding his/her leave, in which case he/she shall receive the higher rate.
(e) If an employee substitutes in a higher paying classification where the salary placement in the salary range is less than the salary they would have received if substituting in a classification between their current classification and the substituting classification, then the salary placement will be equivalent to the higher rate. This shall only apply to classifications in the same classification series. An employee shall not receive a salary greater than the maximum of the range of the classification in which the employee is substituting.
Substitution Pay. When an employee, at the request of her immediate supervisor, substitutes in or performs the principle duties as defined in the job description of a higher paying bargaining unit position for one full shift or more, she shall receive the rate for the job.
Substitution Pay. (a) An employee temporarily substituting in or performing the principal duties of a higher paying position, for a minimum of one-half (½) day, will receive the regular rate for that classification for the period of substitution.
(b) When operationally feasible, in the view of the Employer, substitution to a higher paying classification shall be offered to employees in the next lower classification possessing the knowledge, skills, qualifications, availability and ability required for the higher paying position, in order of seniority.
(c) An employee temporarily substituting in, or performing the principal duties of a lower paying classification, at the Employer's request, shall receive their normal rate of pay.
Substitution Pay. When an employee temporarily substitutes in a higher paid position, he/she shall receive the rate for the job.
Substitution Pay. When an employee substitutes in, or performs the principal duties of a higher paying position, she shall be paid at the step in the higher job classification which represents the nearest to eight percent increase in salary from her own job. Substitution pay is not payable when an employee has not been designated by the Employer to substitute, or where an employee's current position normally requires periodic substitution in the higher position as defined in the job description.
Substitution Pay.
(a) Where relief is required for the following classifications in Appendix 3: Fish and Wildlife Assistant Forest Technician Laboratory Assistant Park Assistant Science Officer Scientific Technical Officer (Agriculture Officer) Scientific Technical Officer (Forest Technician and Officer) Scientific Technical Officer (Regional Park Staff) Scientific Technical Officer (Environment) or classifications listed in Appendix 5 because the principal duties of a temporarily vacant position have to be carried out during the absence of the regular incumbent, the Employer agrees to give regular employees in the appropriate work unit and from the same occupational grouping, the opportunity to relieve in the higher paying position, provided there is no employee available whose functional job description requires periodic substitution and provided the employee substituting is sufficiently competent to assume the principal duties of the temporarily vacant position. The employee so designated to substitute will receive substitution pay in accordance with Clause 27.4 of the Master Agreement.
(b) Where substitution is required for the following classifications: Biologist Laboratory/Health Science Officer Planning Officer (including Islands Trust) Policy Analyst – Science Scientific Technical Officer (Park Officer – Headquarters) the most senior available qualified employee in the appropriate classification shall be afforded the opportunity to substitute in the higher position.
(c) For those classifications listed in Appendix 2 the following provisions shall apply:
(1) Substitution to a higher non-supervisory level position shall be offered to the most senior available qualified employee in the appropriate classification, subject to the employee's ability to perform the job.
(2) Appointment to substitute in supervisory level positions shall be made on the basis of merit, as outlined in Section 8 of the Public Service Act.
(3) Where the Employer requires an employee to work part days at a higher paying position, for more than one-half hour, they shall be paid the higher rate by one-half day increments.
(4) The application of this clause shall not include training time.
(5) Subject to the provisions of Clause 27.4 of the Master Agreement where an established supervisory position normally exists, it shall be the normal practice that a substitute be designated in accordance with this article.

If a salary range is established, he/she shall receive the minimum rate of the new salary range or the rate in the new salary range which is the closest step to eight percent (8%) above his/her current rate, whichever is greater, but not more than the top of the new salary range. Employees on sick leave, special leave, or any other paid leave of absence will be entitled to the basic rates of pay they received prior to substituting in a higher position. Substitution pay is not payable when an Employee has not been designated by the Employer to substitute, or where an Employee's current position normally requires periodic substitution in the higher position as defined in the functional job description.

If a salary range is established they shall receive the minimum rate of the new salary range or the rate in the new salary range which is the closest step to eight percent above their current rate, whichever is greater, but not more than the top of the new salary range. Team members on sick leave, special leave or any other paid leave of absence will be entitled to the basic rates of pay they received prior to substituting in a higher position. Substitution pay is not payable when a team member has not been designated by the Company to substitute, or where a team member's current position normally requires periodic substitution in the higher position as defined in the functional job description. Payment for leave under Clause 20.1 and 20.2 will be made at a team member's basic pay, except if a team member has been working in a higher paid position than their regular position for a majority of their regularly scheduled hours in the 60 days preceding their leave, in which case, they shall receive the higher rate.
(1) Substitution to a higher non-supervisory level position shall be offered to the most senior available qualified team member in the appropriate classification, subject to the team member ability to perform the job.
(2) Appointment to substitute in supervisory level positions shall be made on the basis of merit, in accordance with Clause 12.1(c).
(3) Subject to the provisions of Clause 27.4 where an established supervisory position normally exists, it shall be the normal practice that a substitute be designated in accordance with this article.
(c) Where a position is temporarily vacant and relief is required, regular team members shall be given the opportunity to relieve in higher paying positions and every effort will be made to arrange for replacements in the lowest paying category.
(d) Notwithstanding the text of this article, any request for a reclassification which results in a Joint Job Evaluation Committee decision where the resultant pay grid is less than the current pay grid, then the salary for such a team member will be grandfathered.
Substitution Pay. In the event an employee is designated to substitute into a higher paying position, they shall receive a rate for the position that is the first step in the new position wage grid above the rate they presently receive, or the premium for the position, whichever is applicable. An employee shall receive the appropriate pay for all hours worked in the higher paying position.
