Extended Sick Leave (ESL). Effective January 1, 2013, the ESL bank will be implemented.
9.6.1 ESL is earned by regular full-time employees of Yakima County at the rate of four (4) hours for each month of completed service. Regular part-time employees earn ESL on a pro-rated basis according to the hours budgeted for the position.
9.6.2 An employee is eligible to use available ESL when the employee has: • an extended illness or injury lasting more than 10 consecutive work days (cannot be used for intermittent absences); • A qualified family member with an extended illness or injury lasting more than 10 consecutive work days (cannot be used for intermittent absences); • served thirty (30) consecutive days of employment; and • used 5 work days or 40 hours of PTO, SL, CT or LWOP. The changes will become effective beginning in the payroll period following signature of the CBA by the last signing party.
9.6.3 Upon separation from employment with Yakima County, any unused ESL is forfeited without payment.
9.6.4 All re-employed persons, whose continuous service has been interrupted by termination, shall be considered new employees and shall be subject to the applicable qualifying period of employment. Exception: Employees rehired within the layoff period after a reduction in force will have their accumulated ESL bank hours restored.
Extended Sick Leave (ESL). The purpose of ESL is to compensate regular full-time employees for long-term illness/injury or for grieving and bereavement of a family member.

Extended Sick Leave (ESL). There shall be no maximum cap on the amount of ESL that may be accumulated for future use.
Extended Sick Leave (ESL). A. ESL is provided to complement PTO and supplement SDI, Paid Family Leave or Worker's Compensation in the event of an extended illness. ESL is not intended as a substitute for PTO.
B. An RN classified as full-time/part-time accrues ESL on the basis of work status (Article 38). A full-time RN with benefits accrues five (5) ESL days per year. A part-time RN with benefits accrues a prorated amount of ESL in accordance with her/his work status (Article 38). There is no limit to the number of ESL days that may be accrued.

A. The RN has completed her/his initial provisional period (Article 32).
B. After the RN has been sick for four (4) calendar days.

Extended Sick Leave (ESL). 19.1 All full‐time Registered Nurses will accrue Extended Sick Leave (ESL) at the rate of six (6) days per year. Extended Sick Leave will be prorated for regular part‐time Registered Nurses. All Extended Sick Leave benefits are paid at the Registered Nurse’s regular rate of pay.
19.2 All eligible Registered Nurses will accrue Extended Sick Leave (ESL) at the rate of .02 per paid hour. ESL is accrued each pay period based upon all hours paid up to a maximum of eighty (80) hours. Accrual begins at the Registered Nurse’s hire date, or date from which a Registered Nurse is reclassified from Per Diem or Temporary status. ESL hours may be used as soon as indicated on the pay stub, but may not be used in advance. There is no limit on the amount of ESL that may be accrued.
19.3 Extended Sick Leave shall be used to integrate with weekly State Disability Insurance (SDI) or Workers’ Compensation pay, as necessary, during a long‐term illness. Full‐time Registered Nurses eligible for SDI may not use more than 40 hours of ESL per pay period. Registered Nurses eligible for Workers’ Compensation may not use more than their normally scheduled hours of ESL per pay period.
19.4 Extended Sick Leave (ESL) will be used for the following: Long‐term illness that qualifies a Registered Nurse for State Disability Insurance or Workers’ Compensation. ESL days shall be used to integrate SDI or Workers’ Compensation pay‐off as necessary during a long‐term illness. Paid Time‐Off (PTO) may be applied when ESL days have been exhausted. Verified short‐term illness: Commencing on the fourth consecutive day of short‐term illness, ESL may be used in increments of one (1) day (8‐hours). Verification must be a signed physician’s statement non‐work related illness or injury of short‐term duration that does not qualify for ESL may be paid from the Registered Nurse’s Paid Time Off (PTO) accrual.
19.5 In cases of absences for injuries or illness, the Registered Nurse shall notify his/her supervisor as promptly as possible. The District may request a return‐to‐work release from a physician if the Registered Nurse is absent three (3) or more days. The District may request that the Registered Nurse participate in rehabilitation programs to assist the Registered Nurse in avoiding future injury or illness.
19.6 Upon termination of employment, there is no payment of unused ESL.
Extended Sick Leave (ESL).
A. Employees eligible to accrue Paid Time Off shall also accrue Extended Sick Leave at the rate of six (6) days per year of service in the case of regular full-time employees.
B. ESL days can be used for the following asdefined below:
1. Long term illness.
2. Short term illness of four (4) to seven (7) days accompanied by written medical verification. A long term illness is an illness which qualifies an employee for State Disability Insurance (SDI) or Workers Compensation weekly benefits. ESL hours shall be used to integrate with SDI or Workers Compensation pay offs during a long term illness so that the employee will receive his/her regular take homepay. A verified short term illness is a verified "first" illness of four (4) to seven (7) days so that any subsequent illnesses within the same anniversary year can be verified and charged to his/her ESL account. Except as provided elsewhere in this Memorandum of Understanding, engineers who are receiving State Disability or Worker's Compensation and are integrating their PTO/ ESL, will continue to accrue full benefits, including Health and Welfare benefits, until their accrued PTO / ESL is exhausted.
C. PTO shall be used for non-industrial injuries. For industrial injuries PTO may be used for all long term illnesses when the ESL account is depleted.
Extended Sick Leave (ESL). 18.5.1. ESL is not available for any work related illness or injury for which an employee may apply for Workers Compensation.
