Focus Groups. To gain insight into the needs and perceptions of sub-populations in the Parkview Health System (Parkview) area, focus groups were conducted in Allen, Noble, and Kosciusko Counties. Focus groups are a data collection technique that capitalizes on group interactions to provide qualitative information on a range of topics and in various research fields [1]. Our objective was to receive input from populations underrepresented in the telephone survey on health risks and concerns in their communities. Altogether, three focus groups were arranged by Parkview: one with African American participants in Xxxxx County, one with Hispanic participants in Noble County, and one with Hispanic participants in Kosciusko County. Only one participant attended the Kosciusko focus group so an interview was conducted. His responses to questions mirrored those of the Noble County group. Each focus group was audio-taped and an assistant moderator took notes. The following is a summary of the risks to health, greatest health concerns, and the gaps and strengths of health services in the community. The health risks identified by focus group participants in Xxxxx County include: poor diet, lack of exercise, substance use, mental health issues, poor prenatal care, limited accessibility to grocery stores with healthy options, and little knowledge of preventive care. The group believe that while there are some services available to address these concerns, the information is not getting to the population with the greatest need, “so, I think the people you most want to help are the people least likely to attend.” It is “an unfortunate truth of the black community that we won’t move unless there’s a lure.” Community days are frequently held in the county, however without an incentive to go to a screening or sign up for resources, residents are unlikely to participate. Additionally, a grass roots organization, “meet people where they are at”, is the best way to reach those individuals. Poor dietary habits is viewed as a major contributor to health risks. Certain areas do not have healthy food grocery stores and as a result, too many individuals resort to “junk food” obtained at service stations to replace fresh fruits and vegetables. Cooking dinner for the family is on the decrease, often because of busy lives or parents are tired after working all day. While meals prepared at home is preferable to unhealthy options at the 7-11, many packaged foods are high in sodium, calories, and fat. Thi...
Focus Groups. The State will annually conduct four focus groups with enrolled populations identified by the State and communicated in writing to the contractor. Objectives for the focus groups will be collaboratively developed by the State and the contractor. For the first contract year, two focus groups each will be conducted with enrollees who have communication-affecting disorders and with enrollees who are elderly. Focus group results will be reported by the State. The contractor shall identify opportunities for improvement identified through the focus groups, specify additional measurement or intervention efforts developed to address the opportunities for improvement, and a timeline, subject to State approval, indicating when such activities will be completed. A status report on the additional measurement or intervention efforts shall be submitted annually to the State by a date specified by DMAHS.
Focus Groups. The consultant team will host up to four (4) virtual focus groups, with different staff members and elected officials from member communities, on strategies and actions that may be considered in the CSAP. The Toole Design Team will document focus group discussions and identify themes that present regional opportunities for collaboration in a summary memorandum. Consultants will assess and review transportation safety related data for quality and completeness, and will work with the MPO to collect, clean, and consolidate current available data for safety analysis. Consultants anticipate using crash, transportation feature, user, activity, land use, and equity data to identifying key crash patterns, locations with high crash frequency and risks, and systemic risk factors that may contribute to future crashes. Consultants will assess multiple datasets and build a GIS database that consolidates and contextualizes crash data with roadway and land use contexts. Based on the quality and completeness of the data, the project team may use assumptions to fill data gaps. The data assessment results, and any assumptions made, will be documented in a memorandum. The data quality and completeness memorandum will be a key check point for the TSC to agree to data sources to further develop the collection of near miss or hard braking data. Below are the data types consultants will seek to help contextualize crash data and inform a systemic safety analysis. The Iowa Crash Analysis Tool (ICAT) is a robust database of reported crash details, and we will use crash data from the most recent five-year period as the basis for our crash mapping and descriptive crash analysis in Task 3. However, consultants may request to review other crash data sources, such as emergency medical services and redacted police reports as needed to further understand the factors in fatal and serious injury crashes across the region. Roadway features are critical to determining crash risk. By joining transportation features to crash data, our team will be able to perform systemic analysis and identify key emphasis areas. Toole Design anticipates using data available through Iowa DOT’s Road Network portal and other transportation network data made available through the MPO and its local partners (e.g., signal, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, crosswalks, etc.). Similar data will be needed for crash risk assessment on locally controlled roadways. Our team will also incorporate datasets like transit rou...
Focus Groups. 7 The Field Training Program Coordinator and Academy staff shall conduct focus groups 8 with randomly selected trainee officers midway through the field-training cycle, upon completion 9 of field training, and six (6) months after completion of the field training program, to determine the 10 extent to which the Academy instructors and curriculum prepared the new officers for their duties.
Focus Groups. Integrating Perspectives, Defining Engagement Setting
Focus Groups. The focus groups marked strategic gradual progress toward the development of a collective engagement arena and building up toward a choral conversation. Three two-hour focus groups (Xxxxxxx et al., 2014) were conducted with four to five participants each following this structure: Overview of the interview process, description of analysis and sense-making, verification of themes and identification of missing components, and description of next steps. Each focus group further subdivided into two small groups and worked with an electronic copy to prepare clarifying questions and potential additions. Importantly, participants were not only validating and inquiring into the themes derived from the interviews (i.e., member check), but also adding additional data to complete the landscape of the discussion during the convening.

Focus Groups. Three focus groups, one in Malta, one in Barcelona and a third one in Sweden were held in October-December 2014. Three project partners were in charge of the focus group, respectively University of Malta, Coventry University and National Archives of Sweden, with the overarching leader and organizer being the University of Malta. The participants in the focus group held in Malta consisted of policy makers and cultural heritage managers, Barcelona’s group was made up of citizen scientists, while the members in Sweden where activists. The decision to target different types of stakeholders in the three focus groups aimed to capture more clearly the differences in requirements of these three key stakeholder communities. The aim of the focus groups was to analyse the participants’ views on the potential strength of the citizen scientists and collect their feedback. The focus group protocol (Annex 2) is divided into various sections, each designed to delve deeper into the issue discussed. The protocol for this study also included questionnaires; their analysis in comparison with the online questionnaire for cultural heritage professionals will be addressed in D2.2. 3.2.1 Overview of participants across the various groups Policy makers Citizen scientists
Focus Groups. In the literature of the concerned disciplines (social sciences, market sciences, and marketing) “focus groups”, “group interviews” and “group discussions” are neither systematically differentiated nor homogeneously defined. However, in spite of lacking taxonomy, focus group discussion can be characterized as “a moderated discussion of a group of individuals on a given subject”. Focus Groups are often used during the explorative stage within the research process, for which they are especially suited for the generation of hypotheses. It could be noticed that recently they have been more and more used as an independent research method. Focus groups are characterised by the two core elements. The subject matter is being introduced into the group by the researcher and the generated data are a result of the interaction within the group. It is only the combination of the two criteria which discerns focus groups as a self content research method between the two basic methods of qualitative data gathering methods: open interview for individuals and the participating observation of a group, without researcher input. (Burki 2000). In our case, the focus group discussion will be used to deepen, in a qualitative way, some results of the consumers’ survey. Focus groups produce individual data and group generated data, which can be analysed on different levels: • Rational level: where the group (participants and their interaction) are in the center of the consideration. Analysis based on small group interaction, research on opinion and attitudes, interaction analysis • Content level: when distinct statements are the foreground, analysis based on conversation analysis, content analysis. The interpretation of the focus groups is difficult because of the heterogeneity of the generated data. It has to be pointed out that until today there are no entirely satisfying protocols and standardised analysis protocol for Focus Group. The most common analysis method is the content analysis (Xxxxxxx, 1993) However, focus groups are generally considered as among the best tools for the first approach and the wide exploration of a research field. In the project focus groups are foreseen in three of the four consumer studies: fruit, health claim food and traditional. At the early stage of the research we can presume that our focus groups will generate new information on the method itself: a cross comparison of results between nations and sectors and later, a comparison of the results of ...
Focus Groups. To coordinate EPOS interactions with selected key initiatives including GEO and the ENVRI community, a suite of dedicated focus groups will be established. These focus groups will ensure that the extended EPOS community has a common approach to engagement with these initiatives to encourage efficient use of resources, and create a common understanding and awareness of the different touch points between the EPOS XXXX members, the EPOS-SP beneficiaries and these selected key initiatives. These focus groups will also ensure there are planned interactions and coordinated participation at relevant meetings and similar events, including having a designated and recognised EPOS representative who acts as a contact point between EPOS and each key initiative.
