These days are unrestricted; however, employees using these days are obligated to use them only for emergency business or personal matters that cannot be taken care of during non-working hours. Such Leave shall cover a period of up to eighteen (18) weeks before or after the birth of a child or following notification of the adoption of a child and submission of a written application for Maternity or Adoption Leave without pay, at least four weeks before the day specified by her as the intended date of commencement. If the employee fails to submit a proper application, as specified, she must be given Leave a minimum of fourteen (14) weeks Leave starting at any time in the eight (8) weeks prior to the estimated date of birth.

Employees, who are eligible for Maternity or Adoption Leave, are entitled to an unpaid Leave of Absence not exceeding weeks and employees who are not eligible for Maternity or Adoption Leave are entitled to an unpaid Leave of Absence not exceeding (37) weeks. Parental Leave must be taken between the period twelve (12) weeks before estimated date of birth or the estimated date on which an adopted child will come into the employees care and weeks after the actual date the child was born or the adopted child came into the employees care. If the employee fails to submit a proper application, as specified, Parental Leave must commence on a day within three weeks after the date of birth or the day the adopted child came into the employees care.

During any vacation year, upon application by the employee and at the discretion of the Employer, earned but unused vacation leave credits shall be compensated at the employee's daily rate of pay as calculated from the classification prescribed in his letter of offer related to his substantive position on March Recall from Vacation Leave Where, during any period of vacation leave, an employee is recalled to duty, he shall be reimbursed for reasonable expenses, as normally defined by the Employer, that he incurs: in proceeding to his place of duty, and in returning to the place from which he was recalled, if he immediately vacation upon completing the assignment for which he was recalled, after submitting such accounts as are normally required by the Employer. The Manager shall grant special leave earned with pay for a period of up to five (5) consecutive days when there is a death in the employee’s immediate family, where a permanent employee is required to care for a terminally ill parent, spouse or child, or where a permanent employee is required to perform medical escort duties for a parent, spouse or child. The Manager may grant an employee special leave with pay for a period of up to five (5) consecutive working days where special circumstances not directly attributable to the employee prevent his reporting to duty, including:
of Leave. Payment shall, at the option of the employee, be made in a lump sum or as a continuation of salary until the scheduled retirement date is reached. Where the employee chooses to take a lump sum payment, the last day worked shall be considered the retirement day and benefits shall cease on that day. Where the employee chooses to take leave as a continuation of salary until the scheduled retirement date, all benefits shall continue until that date. Employees who have worked on a part-time basis during their employment with the Employer shall receive a pro-rated portion of leave based on their actual hours worked as compared to those of a full-time employee.
of Leave. An employee may continue insurance benefit coverage for the remainder of the leave by paying the full premium expense(s) per District procedure. Termination of employment for any reason shall cease District-paid benefits on the last day of the month of employment with the District, unless covered under another section of this Agreement.
of Leave. Special leave may be granted at the discretion of the Employer, for purposed of emergency or extenuating circumstances, directly involving an Employee’s person, home or immediate family; such requests for special leave shall not be unreasonably withheld. Where an Employee has insufficient or no credits to govern the granting of special leave within the meaning of Articles and leave up to a maximum of five (5) days may be granted at the discretion of the Employer and the deduction of such advanced leave from any special leave credits subsequently earned.
