Research and Study Leave. 6.1 The provision of research and study leave shall be in accordance with the Research and Study Leave Policy, which may be amended from time to time by the employer.
Research and Study Leave. This Article applies in its entirety with the following changes:
Research and Study Leave. Academic staff are eligible to apply for study leave in terms of the University’s Research and Study Leave Regulations which are promulgated from time to time.
Research and Study Leave. Research and Study Leave is not given as a matter of right. Each application will be considered on its merits and provided that the employer and the DHB are convinced of the value of a proposal all applications will be dealt with as available funds permit. Eligibility for research and study leave will accrue at the rate specified in the University’s policies and may be altered by the University.
Research and Study Leave. 8.3.1 The provision of research and study leave shall be in accordance with the “Research and Study Leave” University policy and procedures, which may be amended from time to time by the Employer according to the terms of participation in clause 2.6 of the Academic Collective agreement and according to the following principles:
(a) Academic employees who are eligible to apply for research and study leave can apply following a conversation with their academic head and in accordance with the Research and Study Leave policy and procedures.
(b) Research and study leave provides relief from teaching and administrative duties and is recognised to be integral to the production of high-quality research and research-informed teaching. Research and study leave is provided at the discretion of the Employer, which shall be exercised equitably and following due process.
(c) Research and study leave is a form of service to the University, and as such is granted for those purposes which are consistent with the University's own obligation to further "the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination and maintenance thereof by teaching and research" (University of Auckland Act 1961, s.3(1)). For this reason, particular attention is paid to the academic merit of research and other project(s) intended by any applicant for leave.
(d) The granting of research and study leave shall be based on an academic peer review process involving a sub-committee of the Faculty Staffing Committee, with the final decision being made by the Xxxx. The staff member may seek a review of the decision through their head, then their Xxxx, then the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Research and Study Leave procedures.
(e) The period of research and study leave that may be applied for shall be at most 12 months and will accumulate based on the principles in the Research and Study Leave policy.
(f) The Research and Study Leave policy shall be sufficiently flexible to recognise any special circumstances relating to the individuals’ academic employment.
(g) In all cases, the University will provide grants-in aid to staff on research and study leave to the maximum extent that is reasonable in the circumstances in accordance with the Research and Study Leave policy

(a) Academic employees, and who have teaching and research as part of their academic duties, are eligible to apply for research and study leave in accordance with the Research and Study Leave policy.
(b) Research and study leave provides relief from teaching and administrative duties and is recognised to be integral to the production of high quality research and research-informed teaching. Research and study leave is provided at the discretion of the employer, which shall be exercised fairly and following due process. If a meritorious application is unable to be accommodated at the particular time, such applicants shall have priority consideration subsequently.
(c) Research and study leave is a form of service to the University, and as such is granted for those purposes which are consistent with the University's own obligation to further "the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination and maintenance thereof by teaching and research" (University of Auckland Act 1961, s.3(1)). For this reason particular attention is paid to the academic merit of research and other project(s) intended by any applicant for leave.
(d) The granting of research and study leave shall be based on an academic peer review process involving at the least, the academic head and Faculty Staffing Committee, who shall make recommendations to the xxxx. The staff member may appeal to the Vice Chancellor in accordance with University policy.
(e) The University shall ensure that access to research and study leave is available to research-active academics on a basis that is regular, predictable, and equitable within their academic unit and across the University.
(f) Research and study leave shall normally be for a period of one or two semesters, unless the applicant seeks a condensed period of leave, and shall recognise the accumulated service at the University.
(g) The Research and Study Leave policy shall be sufficiently flexible to recognise any special circumstances relating to the individuals’ academic employment.
(h) In all cases the University attempts to help staff on approved research and study leave by providing grants-in aid to the maximum extent that is reasonable in the circumstances.
Research and Study Leave. 1.1 The maximum travel and sustenance allowance is $1,405.00 per month of eligibility.
Research and Study Leave. Research and Study Leave is at the discretion of TPP and refers to leave from teaching and administration duties to undertake a period of approved research which will inform the lecturer’s teaching. Leave may be taken as blocks of time or as a reduction in weekly timetabled class contact time.
Research and Study Leave. All full-time librarians having permanent status shall be eligible to apply for research or study leave. In granting such leave, the Chief Librarian shall ensure that the staffing requirements are adequately met. Study leave, i.e., registration in a formal program of studies, whether or not it leads to a degree, may be granted when the program of studies is of mutual benefit to the librarian and the Library. The amount of paid study leave which may be granted shall be determined by length of continuous service: After 3 years – 6 months After 4 years – 8 months After 5 years – 10 months After 6 years or more – 12 months During a study leave, the librarian shall receive 50 per cent salary. Research leave may be granted when the librarian has demonstrated the potential to benefit from the leave, and when the research proposed can be made use of in the librarian’s continuing employment with the University. A 12-month research leave at 82.5 per cent salary may be granted after six years of continuous service at the University. Alternatively, a six-month research leave at full salary may be granted after six years of continuous service at the University. As an alternative and subsequent to the first leave above, a six-month leave at 82.5 per cent salary may be granted after every three years of service. The choice of option shall rest with the librarian and should be specified at the time application is made. Research leave and study leave entitlements are alternative not cumulative. Neither leave shall be regarded as a break in continuous service. Neither study leave nor research leave need be taken in a single unbroken period. Subject to the above provisions leave shall not be unreasonably denied. The status of librarians on research and study leave is protected with respect to salary increases and promotion. Staff benefits shall continue on the same basis during the leave. Applications for research and study leave shall be made in writing to the Chief Librarian at least six months in advance. Requests for leave shall include a statement of the research and studies the librarian proposes to undertake, and upon return a report of the research and scholarship accomplished shall be provided to the Chief Librarian. Librarians granted research leave may receive a portion of their salary while on leave in the form of a research grant, under the same terms and conditions as members of the teaching staff. Research and Study Leave. Victoria University maintains a policy of research leave intended for academic study, research, writing and creative professional development which provides means for faculty members to increase their knowledge, further their research and scholarship, stimulate their intellectual interests, and strengthen their contacts with the community of scholars, thus enhancing their contributions to the research and teaching activities of the University. Research leave shall be regulated by the following principles:
(a) A faculty member on 50 percent or greater appointment shall be entitled to apply for research leave of twelve (12) months at eighty-two and one-half (82.5) percent salary after every six years of service at Victoria University. Such leave shall not be unreasonably denied. Research leave normally will commence on July 1.
(b) As an alternative, each faculty member on 50 percent or greater appointment shall be entitled to apply for research leave of six months at full salary, after the same period of service. Such leave shall not be unreasonably denied. Such leave may commence either July 1 or January 1, subject to the approval of his or her Principal.
(c) As an alternative and subsequent to the leave in (a) or (b) above and where the College’s teaching program permits, each faculty member on a 50 percent or greater appointment shall be entitled to apply for research or study leave for a six month period (from July 1 to December 31 or January 1 to June 30) after every three years of service at 82.5 percent salary. Such leave shall not be unreasonably denied.
(d) A faculty member who is entitled to apply for a research leave under (a) above, may request that he or she defer the leave by up to one year. Such request shall not be unreasonably denied; and, where the request has been granted, the period of time between the date on which the leave would have commenced in the absence of the deferment and the actual date on which the leave commences, to a maximum of one year, shall be credited as “service to the University” for purposes of calculating the faculty member’s accrued service in respect of the faculty member’s next research and study leave application.
(e) The research leave allowance to which such faculty member is entitled may be paid in part as a research grant, made in accordance with University policy for awarding research grants.
