SPECIAL VACATIONS. 16.01 The Company will during the currency of this Agreement provide Special Vacations with pay in accordance with the following provisions:
a) Each employee who completes his first five (5) years on the anniversary date of his employment shall become entitled to five (5) weeks of Special Vacation with pay in addition to vacation entitlements under the provisions of Article 15 of this Agreement.
b) Each employee upon completion of each additional five (5) years on the anniversary date of his employment since last becoming entitled to a Special Vacation with pay shall thereupon similarly become entitled to five (5) weeks of Special Vacation with pay.
c) The expression 'anniversary date of his employment' in this Article shall be determined on the same basis as set out in Section 15.07.
d) An employee can have access to his next Special Vacation entitlement to the extent of one (1) week of Special Vacation for each completed year of employment during the five (5) year period either before becoming entitled to or between entitlements to Special Vacation, to a maximum of four (4) weeks of Special Vacation. The employee cannot have any outstanding Special Vacation at the time he accesses Special Vacation under this Section. Any Special Vacation taken under this Section will be deducted from the employee’s next Special Vacation entitlement.
e) The pay for each week of Special Vacation which is taken shall be equal to two per cent (2%) of the employee's earnings from the Company in the calendar year immediately preceding the year in which such week of Special Vacation is taken.
f) Should an employee after becoming entitled to Special Vacation with pay fail to take it within five (5) years of the date of entitlement for any reason including death or retirement, the Company will pay the employee or his estate in lieu of the vacation time. The amount of payment will be calculated as though the employee had taken the vacation immediately prior to the fifth (5th) anniversary of his entitlement or to the date of his termination of employment or his death as the case may be.
g) In determining the length of a Special Vacation a week shall mean seven (7) consecutive days including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays falling within the period.
h) The allocation of Vacations with Pay under the provisions of Article 15 shall have priority over the allocation of Special Vacations granted under this Article.

SPECIAL VACATIONS. 15.01 The Special Vacation program which commenced on January 1, 1969 and which provided Special Vacation with pay of three (3) weeks to those employed by the Company who had completed fifteen (15) years of service prior to that date, and which in the following years provided a Special Vacation of three (3) weeks to those who completed fifteen (15) years of service prior to the ensuing January 1st of each subsequent year, and which further provided an additional three (3) weeks of Special Vacation on the completion of each ensuing five (5) year qualifying period, shall continue in effect for employees under this Agreement. The below-listed qualifications shall govern the taking of Special Vacations. Effective May 1, 1978 those employees who had completed five (5) years of service on January 1, 1978 shall be entitled to Special Vacations in accordance with this Article. No employee shall receive more than three (3) weeks Special Vacation during any five (5) year period following the date of qualification.
15.02 The three (3) weeks Special Vacation must be taken within the five (5) year period following the January lst of the year they accrue to the employee. Special Vacations shall be taken at times which are suitable to both the Company and the employee provided they are taken within the designated five (5) year period.
15.03 Absences from work during a qualifying period for reasons of sickness or accident in excess of twelve (12) months or for any reason other than sickness or accident in excess of three (3) months will result in proportional reduction of benefits. In the case of absence at the commencement of a Special Vacation qualifying period no allotment will be made until the employee returns to work at which time the allotment will be proportionately reduced.
15.04 If an employee leaves the service of the Company
15.05 Except as provided in Marginal Paragraph 15.04 above, employees will not be permitted to take cash in lieu of Special Vacation. Special Vacation not taken within the designated five (5) year period will be forfeited. In the event that a previously scheduled and agreed to Special Vacation period is cancelled by the Company during the final year of the five
SPECIAL VACATIONS. Special vacation requests will be granted immediately upon request as long as (a) the request does not create overtime, and (b) the day(s) requested is/are within the same calendar year that the request is submitted.
SPECIAL VACATIONS. Employees who are eligible for Special Vacation will maintain their entitlement as described below.
SPECIAL VACATIONS. 13.01 During the life of this Agreement each employee who completes three (3) years of continuous service since the date of his most recent hiring or since the date he last became entitled to a Special Vacation with pay under the previous Collective Agreement between the Company and the Union, whichever is later, shall become entitled to one hundred and twenty (120) work hours of Special Vacation with pay.
13.02 During the three (3) year period since he last became entitled to a Special Vacation, an employee will be permitted to take a maximum of forty (40) work hours of Special Vacation from his next entitlement to a Special Vacation for each completed year of employment since the date he last became entitled to a Special Vacation provided at the time the employee does not have any outstanding Special Vacation. Special Vacation taken pursuant to this Clause 13.02 shall be deducted from the employee's next entitlement to a Special Vacation.
SPECIAL VACATIONS. In lieu of three (3) days sick leave, Day after Thanksgiving holiday and employee's holiday set forth in Article 5 of 1976-1979 contract, plus an additional sick day in 1979, employees will shall receive fifty (50) hours of vacation pay. (To be eligible, employees must have acquired seniority and be on the payroll by May 1st January 1st of any year. Part time employees receive twenty-five [25] hours.) The option week of vacation is not subject to the pro-rata provision of Article 52. An employee must be actively on the payroll at the time this week is scheduled and taken. Special vacation week consisting of fifty (50) hours can shall be picked at the same time the vacation is picked or at any time during the year. If the special vacation is not taken by the end of vacation period, fifty (50) straight time hours will shall be paid. (Part time employees receive twenty-five [25] hours.) Employees (full time or part time) may take pay in lieu of time off for optional week. Employees must indicate preference at time of vacation selection.
SPECIAL VACATIONS. SPECIAL VACATIONS. Special vacations approved by the Fire Chief shall not reduce the number of regular vacations scheduled for the period in which the special vacation is taken. The special vacation shall be charged against the employee’s vacation credits.
SPECIAL VACATIONS. The Company will during the currency of this Agreement provide Special Vacations with pay in accordance with the following provisions:
SPECIAL VACATIONS. 21.01 Employees who have completed five (5) years of service, whether broken or continuous, prior to January 1st of each year, shall be entitled to Special Vacation of three (3) weeks in addition to their regular vacation entitlement. The three (3) weeks of Special Vacation shall be taken within
21.02 Special Vacations shall be governed by the following conditions:
(i) They shall be taken at times which are suitable to both the Company and the employee.
(ii) The allocation of regular vacations with pay shall have priority over the allocation of Special Vacations.
(iii) In determining the length of a Special Vacation, a week shall mean a work week as defined in Marginal Paragraph 13.01, and shall include any holidays falling within the period provided that if a Statutory Holiday as defined herein falls within the period and the employee concerned would have become entitled to pay for such holiday not worked if the employee had not been on Special Vacation, the employee shall be paid for such holiday.
(iv) Special Vacation pay shall be computed on the basis of forty (40) hours remuneration per week based on earnings during the four (4) week period immediately preceding the Special Vacation determined as follows:
(a) The rate of vacation pay shall be the standard hourly rate at which the employee worked the majority of shifts in the total of the two (2) pay periods preceding the Special Vacation and the standard hourly rate so established will be paid for the duration of such vacation; and
(b) When standard hourly rates are increased in accordance with Schedule "A" of this Collective Agreement, an employee shall have their established standard hourly rate increased accordingly on that portion of their vacations taken after the effective date of such increase;
(c) Vacation time for employees working on the 4x4 continuous shift schedule shall be complemented by eight (8) hours of earned rest time or unpaid leave as required to make up a forty-eight (48) hour work block.
(v) In the event that an employee's Special Vacation cannot be scheduled to be taken during a five
