Special Vacation. The Company will provide weeks of special vacation with pay for employees who have completed five or more years of continuous service and an additional weeks of special vacation with pay upon completing each additional five year period of continuous service on the basis of the following provisions which shall apply during the life of this Agreement:

11.10.1 The College District shall provide all twelve (12) month Bargaining Unit employees with two (2) days of non-accumulative vacation to be used during the Spring Break week.
11.10.1.1 All nine (9), ten (10), and eleven (11) month employees not on duty during this period of time shall receive prorated days of non- accumulative vacation time to be taken at a time mutually agreed upon by the employee and their immediate supervisor.
11.10.2 In conjunction with the two (2) days of special vacation, each employee shall take two (2) days of their accumulated vacation or compensatory time, or shall take time off without pay if they have no other accrued paid leave available, during the same week. The type of leave used shall be designated by the employee.
11.10.3 The College District reserves the right to require a Bargaining Unit employee to work during this week. If a Bargaining Unit Member is required to work, they shall be granted the two (2) days of special vacation at a time during the year which is mutually agreed upon between the employee and their supervisor.
Special Vacation. The employee’s special anniversary date will be delayed by the number of days lost due to sickness or injury in excess of three hundred and sixty-five (365) days. Employees who are expected to be off work for extended periods and be affected by these provisions will be allowed to carry over accumulated regular and special vacation from year to year. Effective April 8, 1994 an employee who has been off work for twelve (12) months or more will be required to retire provided he/she qualifies for an unreduced pension unless his/her physician, in consultation with a Company designated physician, determines that the employee should be able to return to work within a twelve (12) month period.
Special Vacation. In addition to the regular vacation allowed each employee, each employee will be entitled to five (5) weeks special vacation with pay upon completion of five (5) years of service. This provision is effective January 1, 1982 and employees who have completed five years or more of service as of January 1, 1982 will immediately become entitled to the five weeks special vacation. Such vacation would be taken by mutual agreement at any time during the five years following entitlement, but shall not interfere with the regular vacation of another employee, nor shall the vacation bonus be payable on this special vacation.

The Company reserves the right to grant special vacations only at such times and in such amounts as the Company in its sole discretion may determine. Consideration will be given to special requests from individual employees. The practice will continue to be that an employee will be allowed to split his special vacation entitlements as long as special vacation bookings will be for a minimum of five (5) working days. This minimum of five (5) working days may be waived at the discretion of the department. Should an employee who is entitled to any special vacation with pay fail, for any reason, to take the same within three (3) years after becoming entitled thereto, or should he retire or otherwise cease to be employed by the Company or die before taking same, the Company will, in lieu of granting such special vacation, pay to such employee or to his estate should he have died, the special vacation pay to which he would have been entitled if he had taken such special vacation immediately prior to the third (3rd) anniversary of his becoming entitled thereto or immediately prior to the cessation of his employment with the Company or immediately prior to his death as the case may be.
