Unpaid Professional Leave. Nurses who serve as officers on the Alaska Board of Nursing may take (at the nurse’s option) up to five (5) days of unpaid leave per calendar year to attend professional meetings.

Unpaid Professional Leave. 1. Any bargaining unit member who has completed two or more years of regular service in the district may be granted a leave of absence without pay for training, educational, professional development, or other purposes provided that he does not exceed a total unpaid leave of two (2) years. 2. The application for leave must be submitted to the Assistant Superintendent/Personnel at least thirty (30) days prior to the requested leave. Application for such leave shall outline the program to be pursued and shall clearly state how such activity will contribute directly to improved service to the school system and any other reasons for the requested leave. No leave of absence will be granted for employment in another occupation or business. 3. Application for reinstatement must be made at least thirty (30) days prior to the expiration of the approved leave of absence.
Unpaid Professional Leave. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board will consider granting a leave of absence without pay for not more than one (1) year to contract unit members. The purpose of the leave shall be for further study or other activity designed to improve the individual professionally. Requests for such a leave will generally be submitted prior to March 15, but may be submitted at any time during the school year, provided a suitable replacement is available and the leave does not disrupt the educational program. Requests for such a leave shall indicate the reasons the request is being submitted. a. Upon return from the leave, the unit member shall be accorded the same consideration with respect to salary placement and position assignment as though he or she had been employed by the District during the year on leave. b. When the welfare of the District and the unit member warrants it, consideration shall be given to granting a second year of leave, with but one (1) year applying to advancement on the salary plan. c. At the conclusion of the leave, the unit member shall be reinstated in a position under the terms of Section 9.11. If the building FTE for the year of return is less than the building FTE for the year in which the leave application was approved, then the unit member shall have the same right to remain in the building as other unit members and the terms of Section 9.11 shall not apply. d. While on leave, it is the responsibility of the unit member to keep the Human Resources Office informed at all times of his or her mailing address. During the year of leave, the unit member shall notify the Director of Human Resources, in writing, not later than March 15, whether or not he or she plans to return to duty the following school year. e. A unit member returning from a professional leave must work for three (3) consecutive years before applying for another professional leave.

Unpaid Professional Leave. 1. Upon the written request of an employee, the Board may grant, if so recommended/approved by the Superintendent, a leave of absence for a period of not more than one (1) school year for study in the educational profession. The request shall include a description of the desired course of study, the duration, and the educational institution/organization offering the course of study. Upon the employee's return to service at the expiration of the leave of absence, he/she shall resume contract status and a certificated position similar to that which was held prior to such leave unless the job has been or needs to be combined or eliminated. The leave shall neither begin nor end during a school year. 2. In order to be eligible for a leave as described in paragraph 1 above, the employee must have been employed by the Board for at least five (5) years. A second or subsequent leave as described in paragraph 1 shall not be available to the employee until he/she has been employed an additional five (5) years since the conclusion of his/her last leave. The Board shall limit the number of employees on leave to no more than five percent (5%) of the total number of employees under contract. 3. The written requests for leave must be made to the Superintendent prior to June 1st preceding the school year for which the request is being made. The request for reassignment, at the expiration of the leave, must be made on or before April 1st prior to the school year in which he/she desires to return to employment in the district. Should an employee reconsider and wish not to take a granted leave, his/her early return for reassignment will be at the discretion of the Board.
Unpaid Professional Leave. The Employer shall make all Employees with at least five (5) years of service eligible for a one (1) month unpaid professional leave/sabbatical once every five (5) years. Employees will continue to accrue seniority while on leave, and will have the right to return to their previous position at the end of the leave. The employer shall maintain the Employee’s health benefits while on leave.

  • Unpaid Personal Leave Where an employee has exhausted all paid personal leave entitlements, they are entitled to take unpaid personal leave to care for members of their immediate family or household who are sick and require care and support or who require care due to an unexpected emergency. The employer and the employee shall agree on the period. In the absence of agreement, the employee is entitled to take up to two days (up to a maximum of 16 hours) of unpaid leave per occasion, provided the requirements of 7.2.5(a) and 7.2.5(b) are met.

  • Unpaid Parental Leave (a) An employee is entitled to a period of up to 52 weeks unpaid parental leave in respect of the: (i) birth of a child to the employee or employee’s partner; or (ii) adoption of a child who is not the natural child or step child of the employee or employee’s partner; is under the age of five (5); and has not lived continuously with the employee for six (6) months or longer.

  • Educational Leave Leave without pay may be granted for educational leave for the duration of actual attendance in an educational program.

  • Professional Improvement Leave A teacher may be granted leave to be used for the teacher's professional improvement. Professional improvement days may be approved by the superintendent and used for the purpose of: 1. Visitation to view other instructional techniques or programs. 2. Conferences, workshops, or seminars conducted by colleges, universities, or vocational schools. The teacher planning to use a professional improvement day shall notify the principal at least one week in advance of the proposed absence. The teacher shall be required to file a written report with the principal within one (1) week of attendance at such event. Also, the teacher may/shall be requested to return with materials and/or information to be shared with other teachers. The expense of attending such visitation, conference, workshop, or seminar will be paid by the Board when the proper reimbursement applications are sent to the district office. In cases where attendance at a convention, workshop, seminar, or other educational activity is deemed to be of value only to the individual teacher, leave may be granted for attendance with either no expenses or limited expenses being underwritten by the district. In these cases, no written or verbal reports will be required.

  • Civic Leave Civic leave is provided to faculty members who are a) subpoenaed to appear before any court or other legally constituted body authorized to compel the attendance of witnesses, where the employee is not a party to the action; or b) summoned for jury duty by any court of competent jurisdiction. Faculty members required to report or serve for only part of a day for court or jury duty are obligated to return for the remainder of that day unless otherwise authorized by the Chair. Faculty members are required to provide written notification of civic leave to the Chair as far in advance of the leave as possible. Documentation regarding the leave (e.g., a copy of the summons, subpoena) shall be attached to the notification. The faculty member may retain any money received as compensation or expense reimbursement for jury duty or court attendance compelled by the summons or subpoena.

  • Medical Leave of Absence Where you have a medical leave of absence due to any medically determinable physical or mental impairment that can be expected to result in death or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than six months, and you have not returned to employment with the Company or an Affiliate, a Separation from Service has occurred on the earlier of: (A) the first day on which you would not be considered “disabled” under any disability policy of the Company or Affiliate under which you are then receiving a benefit; or (B) the first day on which your medical leave of absence period exceeds 29 months.
