WORK DAY/YEAR. A. The work year for a teacher shall be one hundred eighty six (186) days. Working days are defined as seven (7) hours in length, commencing fifteen (15) minutes before the start of the student day and ending fifteen (15) minutes after the end of the student day.
B. One hundred eighty (180) days of the 186-day contract year are for direct contact with students. Of the six (6) additional days, three (3) days will occur at the beginning of the year. The first day is reserved for teachers to prepare their classrooms and shall be free of meetings and without student contact. The content and planning of the other two (2) days will be at the discretion of the principal. One day at the end of the year is reserved for teachers to close up their classrooms and shall be without student contact; up to one hour of the final day may be set aside by the principal for an end of the year staff meeting. WORK DAY/YEAR. A. The teacher work day will be 7 hours and 10 minutes for full time teachers.
1. Arrival time and departure time shall be set by the building principals. (Both K-4 schools shall be consistent.)
2. All teachers are permitted to leave five minutes after the final dismissal on Fridays and/or the last school day before a recess/holiday and on the last three (3) days of the school year.
3. All teachers shall be required to personally log in daily.
4. The specific times for the school day shall be established annually by the Board of Education.
B. Student contact days shall not exceed 180. In the event school is closed for any emergency, the rescheduling of these days shall be at the discretion of the Board.
C. The teacher work year shall be 183 days.
D. The following days shall be 4-hour sessions: The last school day before Thanksgiving Recess, the last school day before Winter Recess, the last school day before Spring Recess, and the last three (3) days of school.
E. Teachers' attendance will be required at faculty meetings, workshops, P.T.O. Back to School Night, parent/teacher conferences. Evening concerts and/or other events shall be done on a rotating basis (maximum of one per year). When school is dismissed early for Parent/Teacher conferences, teachers who have no conferences scheduled shall remain in their school until the normal release time on these days.
F. On full-session days teachers shall receive a duty free lunch period equivalent in minutes to that provided for students they teach. This time shall not infringe upon preparation time.
G. Teachers shall be provided with five (5) preparation periods per week.
H. Any teacher accompanying a class on a class trip that requires being away overnight shall be entitled to compensation for each night in addition to normal salary. 2002-2003 $ 95 2003-2004 $100 2004-2005 $115
WORK DAY/YEAR. 1. Employees will conduct evaluations of new students after receiving approval from the ESL Administrator. These students will receive service on the Employee’s next scheduled day in the building following authorization from the ESL administration. ESL Employees will be trained to do evaluations.
2. Once school opens, Employees will begin direct instruction within two days. During the first five days of an Employee’s assignment, approved instructional time may be used as needed to complete arrangements to begin instruction, such as communicating with district personnel, designing a schedule, obtaining materials, writing reports and conducting family interviews. Every effort will be made to begin meeting with students during this period.
3. When there has been a change to the Employee’s assignment after ESL Central Realignment or if additional responsibilities create a need for additional clerical day(s), ESL Employees may contact the ESL Administrator in writing to request clerical day (s) beyond the contracted amount. The allowance of additional clerical day(s) is at the sole discretion of the Administrator.
4. Schedule changes for ESL Employees must be reported to the ESL Administration as soon as possible. In addition, notification must be made to the school affected when indicated. Information can be relayed through phone and/or e-mail to the ESL Administration. If a student or group is removed from an Employee’s schedule, creating an opening in the Employee’s schedule, the Administrator will rearrange schedule(s) to provide a full-time teaching position
WORK DAY/YEAR. A. The time of the seven-hour workday is to be that which is best suited to the needs of the department or school such as determined by the supervisor and the employee. The day shall include a minimum of a 30-minute lunch period making a minimum of seven and one-half hour elapsed time for the day. On one-half the number of work days in a year, the District may schedule bargaining unit employees to a seven and one-half (7 1/2) hour work day and a 30 minute lunch period, making an elapsed time of 8 hours for the day. However, full time employees hired after July 1994 shall work an eight- (8) hour day, inclusive of a 30-minute lunch period.
B. The work year for 12-month employees is from July 1 through June 30, exclusive of vacations, approved holidays, Saturdays and Sundays.
C. The work year for 10-month employees is from September 1 through June 30, exclusive of school recess periods, approved holidays, Saturdays and Sundays.
D. The work year for 11 month employees is from July 1 through June 30, with the exception of 23 days off without pay either in July or August or a part thereof unless otherwise mutually agreeable; and exclusive of school recess periods, approved holidays, Saturdays and Sundays. The time off is to be approved by the immediate supervisor.
E. The work year for part-time employees (less than 17.5 hours) appointed by the Board and full- time employees employed for a part of a year, is for the period of actual work performance. No credit for school recess periods or approved holidays will be granted.

B. The work year for 12 month employees is from July 1 through June 30, exclusive of vacations, approved holidays, Saturdays and Sundays. A 12 month unit member’s salary notice shall list the total number of workdays for the following work year.
C. The work year for 11 month employees is from September 1 through June 30, exclusive of vacations, approved holidays, Saturdays and Sundays. Additionally, 11 month employees shall work an additional 20 days between July 1 and August 31 of each summer. If the District calendar starts before September 1, then those days shall be worked and included as part of the employee’s 20 summer days. The days to be worked over the summer shall be approved by the immediate supervisor. An 11 month unit member’s salary notice shall list the total number of work days for the following school year.

It is specifically recognized by the parties that the work year is not limited to times and days when school is in session. The Superintendent shall work the number of hours necessary to perform all the duties and responsibilities of her position. Due to the unique nature of this employment, it is understood and agreed that in order to properly perform the job required, the Superintendent may have to expend additional time beyond the normal work day and she agrees to do same as is required. Such additional time includes, but is not limited to, time required to attend evening meetings and school- related functions that occur outside the normal working day. The Superintendent shall attend evening, emergency or such other meetings or conferences as requested by the School Committee, including meetings of Town Boards and Committees. It is acknowledged that the position is that of an executive/administrative nature as that term is used in the Fair Labor Standards Act, its rules and regulations. There shall be no paid overtime or additional compensation for said additional time.
