Earned Time. Off You will be provided with earned time off and 12 paid holidays each year in accordance with our policies and practices in effect from time to time. Earned Time. 1. Earned time is an alternative approach to the traditional manner of covering absence for vacation, personal days, maternity leave, military leave, and sick leave. Instead of dividing benefits into a specific number of days for each benefit, earned time puts these days together into a single benefit. Earned time can be used for a variety of purposes, including a payment in cash at the time of termination. Earned time is available as soon as it is “earned.” The exact number of earned time hours available each year will depend on the years of service to the Town. 2. Employees who are employed in a full time position are covered by earned time. The accrual rates are as follows: 3. For the purposes of the earned time benefit, years of service will be calculated from the initial date of employment. Employees may accumulate earned time based on regularly scheduled hours worked or in pay status up to those hours budgeted for the position (other non-status hours worked in supplemental compensation such as overtime are excluded) and on years of service to the Town. 4. Excess of 672 hours may, at the employee option, be purchased by the Town at a rate of one earned hour for one hour’s pay. An employee interested in selling accrued earned time in excess of 672 hours shall notify the Fire Chief in writing prior to December 1, March 1, or September 1 of their intent to sell the excess hours. The date of purchase will be the third payday in January for the excess as of December 31st. For written notices received on or before March 1st, the date of purchase will be the third payday in April for the excess as of March 31st. For written notices received on or before September 1st, the date of purchase will be the third payday in October for the excess of September 30th. 5. Accrual limits shall be: 1344 hours.

The program has been created to provide, as equitably as possible, paid time off, to be used at the employee's discretion, while protecting an allotment of time for disability, hospitalization or injury. Program employees shall be allowed to use their Earned Time Reserve Account in emergent circumstances with nurse manager and Director prior approval. Such Earned Time hours taken shall be paid at the base hourly rate.

The following schedule sets forth the rate at which Earned Time will be accrued for the indicated consecutive years of employment, prorated by the number of hours worked pursuant to the Barrington Personnel Plan. The parties agree that Article 18.1 B shall not be the subject of negotiations during the term of this Agreement. 18.1 Earned Time General Rules(changes 3/28/2016 to town personnel plan): A. Earned Time is available for all employees who regularly work a minimum of 20 hours per week and is calculated upon the number of hours regularly scheduled up to 40 hours in a workweek. Exempt salaried employees are calculated on the basis of 40 hours per week. B. Earned time is not accrued during any period of time when on unpaid leave including short and long term disability. C. Earned Time can be accrued to a maximum of 320 hours for full-time employees. Part time employees may accumulate to a maximum of 8 times their regular weekly schedule, for example 20 hours per week times 8 equals 160 hours maximum for that part-time employee. Any hours in excess of that maximum limit will be lost without compensation for them, reducing the total earned time down to the maximum. The Police Chief has the authority to grant a temporary excess of hours for a limited period of time based upon unique circumstances. Upon leaving service an employee will not be paid for more than the maximum number of hours allowed above. D. During the course of any year an employee may only cash in an amount equal to 60% of his or her total annual accrual other than upon termination of employment. E. Earned time can be used in amounts of one-half hour or more. F. When using Earned Time, the total pay for any one day shall not exceed an employee’s usual work hours. G. Only the amount of Ea...
