Elementary Hours. 1. The school duty day for elementary teachers shall be a continuous eight hours. 2. Throughout a school duty week up to 150 minutes may be designated as “universal time” (UT). a. Activities such as School Improvement, curriculum and staff development, accreditation, team planning, staff meetings, etc. are examples of activities that may be conducted during universal time. b. Up to sixty (60) minutes of this time may be scheduled weekly by the principal or staff for ongoing activities that involve the professional staff. c. Additional universal time may be designated by the principal or professional staff on an as needed basis to promote collaboration and collegiality. The scheduling of that time should not result in the establishment of a permanent or regular addition to the Universal Time schedule. d. Universal time will not routinely be used for personal record keeping, lesson planning, classroom set-up, or other individual work duties. e. Banking of universal time is an option available to staff with the approval of the building principal. 3. Planning time shall be configured to promote and provide blocked professional collaboration time. Guidelines for configuring elementary planning time shall be as follows: a. Each teacher shall receive 325 minutes of instructional planning/conference time per full week. For classroom teachers, this time shall include two (2) thirty (30) minute planning/conference periods at least four (4) days per full instructional week. All other teachers shall receive at least two (2) thirty (30) minute planning/conference periods per day per full instructional week. All planning/conference time shall be scheduled during the student day. b. One (1) thirty (30) minute daily planning/conference period shall be attached to the teacher’s daily duty-free lunch period. (Half-day Kindergarten teachers will be an exception to this). c. Half-day Kindergarten teachers will receive at least a twenty-five (25) minute duty-free lunch and two (2) thirty (30) minute daily planning/conference periods during the student day at least four (4) days per full instructional week. d. Once per full week, two (2) thirty (30) minute planning/conference periods shall be blocked by grade level. Elementary Hours. The normal workday at each elementary school site shall be seven hours and fifteen minutes (7:15). Elementary Bargaining unit members will work sixty-five (65) minutes, thirty (30) minutes before, and thirty-five (35) minutes after the regular hours students are required to be present. This time is to be set aside as teacher-directed planning time, with the exception of one (1) scheduled 20-minute period a week that the site may require teachers in grades 1-5 to perform after-school duty. Every elementary Bargaining Unit Member shall be entitled to not less than one (1) thirty (30) minute duty-free lunch period per day. The only days when the normal workday for Bargaining Unit Members will be shortened are prior to Winter, Spring, and Summer Break and days so-specified in the approved calendar listed in Appendix E. Bargaining Unit Members serving at the district level (e.g., nurses and itinerant teachers) shall comply with daily working hours, not to exceed that of the daily working hours required of Bargaining Unit Members at the school sites. Bargaining Unit Members who travel from one school to another on a regular basis shall have the same rights to a planning period, lunch period, and physical relief break as do other Bargaining Unit Members

Total required employment duty time shall be the student instruction time plus five (5) minutes before and ten (10) minutes after student instruction begins and ends, excluding the 40 minute duty free lunch. Occasionally, teachers may be required to attend meetings at the request of the principal to begin up to twenty-five (25) minutes before the first student instruction period. 2. Planning Time During those times that an elementary classroom teacher's students are being instructed by an elementary specialist, the elementary classroom teacher may utilize this time for instructional planning and preparation. Elementary specialists (art, music, physical education, media, etc.) shall be provided for 675 minutes of planning and preparation time for each full three (3) week period for an average of 225 minutes per week. The District will make a good faith effort to try and ensure that a teacher will not have more than two (2) consecutive days without planning. During a partial student week, such as those that result from, but are not limited to, staff professional development, staff workdays, conferences, state and nationally recognized holidays, and vacations (all without school for students), the 675 minutes of planning and preparation will not be possible. For other approved programs involving any elementary classroom teacher's student being instructed by specialists, again the elementary classroom teacher may use this time for planning and preparation unless the building's School Improvement Team has determined that the classroom teacher's presence is required for programs planned at the building level or Professional Council has determined that the classroom teacher's presence is required for programs planned at the district level. 3. Teachers may choose to share recess duties thereby adding fifteen (15) minutes to their planning time per day. 4. Pupil conferences - If parents request individual conferences regarding students and the parents are unable to meet during the normal day, the teacher will be available for individual conferences outside the above times.

  • Elementary School At the request of the Superintendent, elementary school teachers that teach all the student contact time on a daily basis will be paid for an additional hour at an hourly rate based upon their contractual daily rate of pay for a maximum of 180 days. Teachers will not be required to spend additional time beyond their regular day. All scheduling options must have been exhausted before an administrator will receive permission for this variance. The appeal process for this variance is defined in the Staffing Plan.

  • Elementary Schools A. Each classroom shall have one text per child when the subject is being taught. Future textbook adoptions will include appropriate supplementary materials when those materials are recommended by the adoption committee. Any consumables or supplementary materials adopted shall be distributed according to the committee’s recommendation prior to implementing the adoption. When adopted, consumables, such as workbooks, will be distributed to each child before required usage of the materials. The joint Curriculum Committee shall be consulted prior to the discontinuance of such materials. (See Article XXVI). Newly employed teachers and all teachers who transfer to a new teaching assignment will be provided appropriate desk top supplies and Board adopted curriculum materials. If a teacher is transferring into a newly created classroom, appropriate furniture will be provided. The parties have agreed to an inventory (reference Appendix Z) of supplies, materials, and furniture. A teacher who is not provided the core inventory by September 1 or within thirty (30) days of assignment shall be entitled to appeal directly through the Federation to the appropriate Transformational Leader or his/her designee. B. Each child found to be without adequate health care, where immediate medical attention is needed, shall be referred by the Board to the appropriate social agency upon notification by the teacher. The teacher shall receive written confirmation of the referral within ten (10) school days. C. No teacher shall be required to supervise or be present in the dining area during a local, state or federal breakfast or lunch program. Such instructional time used for said programs shall be considered planning time for the teacher, at a place of his/her choice, within the building. D. No elementary teacher shall be assigned to teach in an area outside his/her certification, subject to Article IV, G- 4. E. Cafeteria duty shall be voluntary when service is performed by a teacher. F. No bus or other additional duties shall be assigned to an elementary teacher outside the six hour and fifteen minute duty day. G. Elementary teachers shall not be required to be present when other teachers are responsible for presenting materials to the class. If a demonstration lesson is requested by the teacher, he/she will be required to be present. Such requests shall be initiated by the teacher. H. Teachers in bilingual classes shall be capable of teaching in both languages when those bilingual teachers can be found. Volunteers, paraprofessionals or casual employees shall be prohibited from supplanting a teacher in bilingual or ESL programs. However, a paraprofessional ELDP tutor may be used to work under the direction of a regular teacher in the bargaining unit to assist those students who need reinforcement in English for less than a full class day. Regular contract teachers who will agree to obtain certification for bilingual or ESL classes shall be employed or used when teachers with fluency in two or more languages cannot be found. Consultants in these programs shall not replace or displace a teacher. I. Student test results for each elementary school shall be made available on a timely basis for achievement and other Ohio mandated tests and standardized tests when administered. J. When a teacher transfers, a three (3) day notice shall be given when possible. Two

  • Extra Hours For the purpose of Clause 20.13, extra hours means any hours available to be worked in excess of an employee’s regular schedule. The Corporation shall determine the extra hours it requires in each circumstance, and offer such hours to employees working in that Post Office in accordance with the provisions of this Clause. (a) On each occasion that extra hours are to be worked, opportunities to work the extra hours are to be offered to employees who notify the Postmaster beforehand of their availability, on the basis of the first opportunity to the employee who works the greatest number of regularly scheduled hours per week, last opportunity to the employee who works the least number of regularly scheduled hours per week. (b) Where two (2) or more employees are working the same number of hours per week, the opportunity shall be first offered to the employee with the longest continuous employment in that Post Office save that an employee who was formerly full-time and whose hours were reduced in accordance with Clause 12.05(a)(i) shall have priority. (i) In the application of this Clause, it is understood that a Part-Time Assistant shall be granted an opportunity to work extra hours provided that the extra hours do not conflict with her regular schedule, and provided she does not work more than eight (8) hours per day, or forty (40) hours per week. (ii) Subject to Clause 20.13(c)(i) the Part-Time Assistant who is granted the first opportunity to work extra hours should, while the opportunity lasts, end up working a total number of hours that is not less than the total number of hours worked by the Part-Time Assistant who accepts the second opportunity, and so on for each subsequent opportunity granted. (d) Where all the extra hours to be worked cannot be covered by application of the principle expressed in (a), employees may be assigned to work the extra hours that cannot be covered, and/or those hours may be covered by other means. (e) Application of this Clause entails no obligation on the part of the Corporation for equal distribution of extra hours.

  • Overtime Hours Except as otherwise provided in this section, all hours worked in excess of the established work day, before or after an employee's regular scheduled shift, or on any regularly scheduled day off, shall be considered overtime. All paid vacation time, paid holidays, paid sick leave, compensatory time off, and paid leaves of absence shall be considered as "time worked" for purposes of this Article. Part-time employees whose established work day is less than eight (8) hours shall not be considered to be working overtime until having completed eight (8) hours of work.

  • TEACHING HOURS 1. A grade PPI-12 teacher's workday shall consist of not more than seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes of formal responsibility. Hall duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. The student day may be increased if necessary to meet the State time requirements for instructional hours. Within said time of formal responsibility, a teacher shall be entitled to the following: (a) A duty free lunch period no less than twenty-five (25) minutes to a maximum of thirty-five (35) minutes. (b) For a grade ECSE-5 grade teacher: a minimum of 250 minutes per week of time for preparation. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. Before and/or after school, a grade ECSE-12 teacher shall be attending to his/her teaching duties in his/her building for up to thirty (30) minutes but not to exceed the workday of seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes. At the beginning of each year, the administration at each level shall determine what portion of the above times will be used before and after school. Teacher input will be encouraged. It is expressly understood that an individual teacher's day may be adjusted to facilitate the administration of the individual building. Early leave may be granted at the discretion of the Administration. 3. The daily preparation period will first be used for such things as thorough preparations, conferences with parents, teachers, and administrators, I.E.P.T.'s, and special assistance to students. 4. Activities involving teachers beyond the scope of the formal teaching day shall be determined cooperatively between a faculty selected committee and the administration at that level. Teachers shall be given forty-eight (48) hour notice of such activities and shall be encouraged and expected by the Association to attend. Special teachers shall be encouraged to attend as their time and schedules allow. 5. In the event that it becomes necessary to determine a new building schedule, a committee will be formed, comprised of an equal number of administrators and teachers to examine alternative scheduling. A recommendation on the study will be presented to the superintendent. No recommendation will be made that would jeopardize accreditation. 6. A teacher’s building assignment shall be determined by where he/she is assigned for over half of his/her schedule. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have their workday schedule determined by the building administrators. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have a minimum of 30 minutes for travel. If the travel time encumbers the teacher’s preparation period or duty free lunch, or extends the teacher’s day beyond the contractual limits, then the teacher shall be paid for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes at the teacher’s per diem rate (unless this time is recouped through other minutes during the day).
