Humanitarian Leave. It is agreed that when an employee is a member of a government funded Urban Search and Rescue team, the Canadian Red Cross disaster relief team, or Canadian Government Disaster Assistance Response team (DART) and his/her team is deployed into action for a natural disaster to provide humanitarian assistance, the employee may be granted a leave of absence without pay, at the Fire Chief’s discretion. The employee will not lose seniority for purpose of this leave. If a situation arises where multiple qualified leaves are being considered, leaves will be granted based on seniority and/or operational needs.
Humanitarian Leave. Teachers may be granted humanitarian leave with or without pay, at the District’s discretion, upon application to the Superintendent.
Humanitarian Leave. A bargaining unit member who, for humanitarian reasons, has a genuine need to receive additional paid leave not otherwise available to him or her under the Negotiated Agreement may, upon the approval of both the Superintendent and president of the Association, be provided additional sick leave days, either by way of advancement or, if approved, by way of transfer from one or more other bargaining unit members. Additional sick leave days awarded by advancement shall be deducted from the member’s future accrued sick leave. Sick leave days awarded by transfer from another member will include written authorization from the transferring member directing the District Treasurer to deduct the number of days transferred from the transferring member’s accrued sick leave balance. The decision to grant or to deny any request for humanitarian leave will be made on a case-by-case basis and shall not be subject to the grievance procedure. Neither the granting nor denial of any request for such leave shall be considered precedent for any future humanitarian leave request.
Humanitarian Leave. Upon the death of a member of the immediate family of an employee, the employee may avail himself of not more than 40 hours for regular full time/ 20 hours for regular part-time employee of humanitarian leave within the state or 64 hours for regular full time/ 32 hours for regular part time employee of humanitarian leave for out of state travel.
Humanitarian Leave. Humanitarian Leave shall be available for employees who have exhausted all paid leave and are experiencing a long term and serious illness or disability that is not work related. The leave shall not exceed twenty (20) workdays.
19.11.1 The leave shall be drawn from a pool of Humanitarian Leave days contributed by employees. Only employees who contributed to the pool the year prior to medical condition that generates this request will be eligible for this leave. The pool shall not exceed one thousand hours at any time.
19.11.2 A Humanitarian Leave Committee shall be established. The committee shall be composed of three (3) Union appointees and three (3) County appointees. The committee shall receive and evaluate all requests for Humanitarian Leave. The decisions of the committee shall be final and shall not be subject to this Agreement's grievance and arbitration procedure.
19.11.3 An employee who is in a Humanitarian Leave status shall not accrue sick and annual leave during such period.
19.11.4 Upon ratification and approval of this Agreement, the Humanitarian Leave Committee shall meet to develop rules and regulations for this provision. No Humanitarian Leave shall be awarded until the rules and regulations have been approved by the Union President and the County Manager.
Humanitarian Leave. Management may grant leave with pay for humanitarian service such as donating blood or other voluntary services to the community.
Humanitarian Leave. The Hospital will continue its practice of allowing humanitarian leave under its personal leave policy, for natural or man-made disasters. ARTICLE 14 - COMMITTEES
Humanitarian Leave. Requests for humanitarian leave of absence not to exceed five (5) working days per calendar year will not be unreasonably denied provided requests are submitted a minimum of six (6) weeks prior to the posting of the schedule and the leave does not negatively impact patient care. In the event of a request to assist with an unforeseen disaster the minimum six (6) week notice shall be waived at the Hospital’s discretion. Release time of up to five (5) RNs per calendar year will be unpaid or an RN may use Paid Leave, but in either case without loss of benefits. Requests for leave above and beyond five (5) RNs will be at the discretion of the Hospital.
Humanitarian Leave. A humanitarian leave is intended to permit the compensated or uncompensated authorized absence for reasons not otherwise set forth herein. A humanitarian leave may be used for health emergencies of the staff member or an immediate family member. Uncompensated leaves less than thirty (30) days may be granted by the Superintendent. Uncompensated leaves greater than thirty (30) days and all compensated leaves must be granted by the Board of Education. In determining whether to grant any such leave, the Employer shall consider:
A. The staffing needs and other requirements of the Employer;
B. The quality of the Employee’s prior service;
C. The probability that the Employee will continue employment with the Employer;
D. The length of service of the Employee;
E. The purpose or purposes of the leave.
Humanitarian Leave. At the discretion of the Supervisor and depending upon the ability to provide appropriate coverage, a registered nurse may apply for and receive up to a six (6) month Leave of Absence to perform humanitarian work. No more than one (1) nurse per unit will be allowed to take a Humanitarian Leave of Absence at a time. The RN shall be entitled to return to her/his former position upon completion of leave. Medical benefits shall continue during the leave on the same basis as though the nurse is on active status. Nurses who have taken a Family and/or Medical Leave will not be eligible for another leave within the twelve (12) month period following the Family and/or Medical Leave. Nurses who fail to return to employment on or before the planned date of return shall be terminated.
