Job Selection. (a) Offers of appointment will be made to preferred candidates before applicants who are not preferred. Subject to qualifications and budgetary considerations, the Department will offer a preferred candidate an appointment of at least the same percentage of a full teaching assistantship as that preferred candidate’s appointment in the previous Teaching Year. A preferred candidate will be given preference for an appointment of equivalent or greater size over an applicant who is not preferred. Upon request, reasons for non-appointment will be given in writing to those bargaining unit members who are not offered an appointment. (b) Employees who have exhausted their preference for reappointment as outlined in Article B 3.03 (a) above may still be reappointed but only after all preferred candidates have been offered an appointment. (c) Undergraduate Teaching Assistants who have previously held an appointment as a UTA will be considered for consecutive appointments as an undergraduate Teaching Assistant not to exceed two (2) years before new undergraduate hires. (d) Offers of appointment for the Winter Session shall be made by August 7. Members of the bargaining unit to whom an appointment has been offered will accept or decline the offer at the earliest possible date, normally no later than ten (10) working days from the date of the offer.

Job Selection. ‌ Where a job vacancy exists within the Company, the position shall be filled in accordance with the following procedures: (a) The vacancy shall be filled on the basis of the applicant's qualifications, skill, ability, experience, competence and efficiency as required in the specifications set out in the job posting for the vacant position; (b) Where two (2) or more employee applicants have qualifications, skill, ability, experience, competence and efficiency which are relatively equal, the applicant with the greater seniority will be awarded the position; (c) Where there are no successful internal applicants, the Employer may fill the position in whatever way it so chooses; (d) Nothing herein shall restrict the Employer's right to advertise externally for the position at the same time that it is posted.

For the purposes of this clause, employees on the recall list are considered regular employees. (c) After employees covered by Article 7.03(a) and except as limited by Articles 6.01(b) iv) and 7.02, preference in appointment to bargaining unit positions will be given to temporary employees who are members of the bargaining unit. (d) The Corporation will consider referrals for jobs in the bargaining unit from Local 378 in the event that the vacancy cannot be filled from within the Corporation.
Job Selection. In filling vacancies the Business Unit shall consider the following two factors in determining which employees are to be selected: (a) seniority ranking of the employees, and (b) the ability, knowledge, training and skill of the employee to do the job. When in the judgement of the Business Unit, which shall not be exercised in an unfair and unreasonable manner, factor (b) is to all intents and purposes equal as between two or more employees their seniority ranking shall govern except as hereinafter provided. Tests used in the job posting procedure will be relevant to the normal requirements of the job.

In the event qualifications of those applying for the position are basically equal in the judgment of the Employer, seniority shall be controlling. Applicants who are not selected for an opening shall be notified by the Employer within a reasonable period of time.

If these factors are determined to be essentially equal between applicants, then seniority will be the determining factor. The Employer will post the name of the successful applicant once the award is made and a copy will be sent to the Union. Note: Intent of proposal is that internal candidates will be considered prior to outside candidates. This does not mean that internal candidates will be given preference for selection.

Job Selection. Preference in appointments to jobs within the bargaining unit shall be given to applicants in the bargaining unit provided they have the necessary ability, experience, and skill. If there is no applicant within the bargaining unit with the ability, experience and skill, then the Company may fill the vacancy by hiring outside the bargaining unit. Such outside hire must meet the qualifications for the job. Should more than one employee within the bargaining unit have the ability, experience and skill to fill a job vacancy and should the ability, experience and skill be relatively equal then preference shall be given to the senior employee as defined under paragraph 5.01.
Job Selection. The Employer shall immediately notify the Union in writing and post notices of vacant and new posts on all bulletin boards as soon as possible and/or circulate such notices to all staff for a minimum of one (1) week, so as to acquaint all employees of the College with such vacancy or new position. The notice shall contain a job description of the post and the scale pay where applicable.
