Request for Vacation Leave. Employees must complete a request for approval of vacation leave at least 10 days prior to the date(s) requested. Approval of an employee’s request for vacation leave is not automatic.
Request for Vacation Leave. 1. For all vacation periods of more than one (1) week during the months of June, July, and August, request for same shall be placed with the Superintendent’s office no later than May 1st of any year. The Superintendent shall respond in writing by approving or disapproving the vacation request within fifteen (15) days from the receipt of the request. Exceptions to the amount of prior notice requirement may be granted by the Superintendent under unusual and unexpected circumstances. 2. For vacations during any other time of the year other than summer months of more than one (1) week, request shall be made to the Superintendent no less than thirty (30) days prior to the requested vacation time. The Superintendent shall respond by either approving or denying the request no more than ten (10) working days subsequent to the receipt of the request. Exceptions to the amount of prior notice requirement may be granted by the Superintendent under unusual and unexpected circumstances. (a) It is expected that building and program administrators will be at work when their schools and/or programs are in session. Toward that end, vacations should not be planned during those times. Administrators may, however, request and be approved to use vacation days while their schools or programs are in session under unusual and unexpected circumstances. Requests for such vacation use must be made as much in advance as possible, and must be supported by information (and documentation if applicable) explaining the unusual and unexpected situations. A request for vacation use while an administrator’s school(s) and/or program(s) is in session must also include an acceptable plan for administrative coverage during the requested absence. The Superintendent or his/her designee will respond to each such vacation request within fourteen (14) days, or sooner if need is articulated by the administrator. (b) Vacation days may not be taken during the ten (10) work days immediately prior to the teachers’ first work day of the school year. The Superintendent may grant exceptions for unusual and unexpected circumstances.

The use of any of the above referred to vacation leave shall be restricted to no more than ten percent (10%) of the employees in any one building or department on any one day. Beginning in summer 2011, custodial, grounds and maintenance employees who are earning fifteen days of vacation or more per year must take a minimum of five (5) vacation days during the summer month period. For purposes of this section, the summer month period starts the first workday following the last teacher day and ends five (5) workdays prior to first teacher day for the upcoming school year. Vacation leave may not be taken during the week immediately preceding the beginning or end of school. All staff in addition to custodial, grounds and maintenance employees must take at least one-week of vacation during the summer months. While this practice is preferred for other full-time support employees, exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis, by the Superintendent or designee. During the summer work schedule, the ten percent (10%) rule will be suspended for the secretaries assigned to the high school.

Request for Vacation Leave. Request for vacation leave shall be submitted through the City computer system and approved by the District Chief. Vacation leave may be taken only after approval by the District Chief. Leave may be used only as earned and vacation leave with pay shall not be allowed in advance of being earned unless granted by the City Manager in emergency situations. Fire Department seniority by shift shall be the prime consideration for the allocation of vacation leave, provided that such leave is requested on or before January 15 of each year, subject to the following guidelines. The Fire Department will provide each District Chief with a seniority roster based on Fire Department Seniority by Shift. Two employees will be allowed off on vacation leave at any one given time. Between January 1 and January 15, the District Chief will start the vacation selection process. Any employee who might be off duty during the selection process will leave written information pertaining to vacation preferences with the District Chief. The first round of vacation selection will start with the senior most employee being asked to select a block of continuous duty time of not less than four hours. After the senior person has selected, the District Chief will advance on to the next employee on the seniority list, then the next and so on down the list until all personnel have had a chance to select one time period. The second round of vacation selection will start with the senior most employee being allowed to select another block of continuous duty time of not less than four hours. The third round of vacation selection will start with the senior most employee being allowed to select another block of continuous duty time of not less than four hours. After the completion of the third round of vacation selection, subsequent vacation selection will be done on a first request basis for any remaining accrued vacation time. Employees may select hours of vacation equal to the amount shown on the employee's current check stub and any vacation hours that the employee may earn before the requested vacation date. If an employee does not select vacation during the vacation selection process, the employee may select vacation throughout the year but will be subject to a first come first approved basis and seniority will not be a factor.   • Annual Vacation Leave 33.01 An Employee shall not take vacation leave without prior authorization from the Employer. 33.02 Vacation entitlements with pay, shall be as follows: (a) an Employee who has completed less than twelve (12) full months' service as of December 31st, shall receive one and one-quarter (1 1/4) work days' vacation for each calendar month worked from the commencement of service, provided that when employment has commenced on or before the fifteenth (15th) day of any month, vacation entitlements shall be earned from the first (1st) day of that month, and when employment has commenced on or after the sixteenth (16th) day of any month vacation entitlements shall be earned from the first day of the following month; (b) an Employee who has completed twelve (12) full calendar months' service as of December 31st, shall receive fifteen (15) work days' vacation; (c) an Employee who has completed five (5) years' service as of December 31st shall in the subsequent year(s) receive twenty (20) work days' vacation; (d) an Employee who has completed thirteen (13) years' service as of December 31st shall in the subsequent year(s) receive twenty-five (25) work days' vacation; (e) an Employee who has completed twenty-one (21) years' service as of December 31st shall in the subsequent year(s) receive thirty (30) work days' vacation; (f) an Employee who has completed thirty (30) years' service as of December 31st shall in the subsequent year(s) receive thirty-five (35) work days vacation. 33.03 All calculations which result in one quarter (1/4) or three quarters (3/4) work day fractions shall be rounded out to the next one half (1/2) or full day, whichever applies; except when vacation pay is paid out upon termination pursuant to Clause 33.11. 33.04 If a paid holiday falls during an Employee's annual vacation period, the Employee shall be granted an equivalent day of vacation credit. 33.05 An Employee shall earn vacation leave pursuant to Clause 33.02 when authorized the following absences: (a) financially assisted Education Leave; (b) sick leave or Workers' Compensation for the first forty-four (44) consecutive work days; (c) any other authorized leave of absence with pay for the first twenty-two (22) work days. 33.06 Vacation leave may be taken in one continuous period or in separate periods. 33.07 Except as is otherwise provided herein, vacation leave in respect of each year of service shall be taken: (a) within twelve (12) months after the end of that year; and (b) at such time or times as may be approved by the Employer; or with the approval of the Employer, before the end of that year. 33.08 Notwithstanding the: (a) other provisions of this Article, and subject to operational requirements, an Employee who so requests may be authorized to take vacation leave which has been earned at a specified time within the year in which it was earned, and the vacation leave to be taken by the Employee in the following year shall be correspondingly reduced. (b) where a terminated Employee has taken more vacation than they are entitled, the Employer is authorized to recover the monies from the Employee’s final pay cheque. 33.09 Where an Employee is allowed to take any leave of absence, other than sick leave, in conjunction with a period of vacation leave, the vacation leave shall be deemed to precede the additional leave of absence, except in the case of maternity leave which may be authorized before or after vacation leave. 33.10 Once vacations are authorized they shall not be changed, other than in cases of emergency, except by mutual agreement. 33.11 An Employee shall not be paid cash in lieu of vacation earned but not taken, except upon termination, when the Employee shall be paid in cash for the total vacation entitlement standing to the Employee's credit at the termination date. 33.12 The Employer shall, subject to operational requirements make every reasonable effort to grant an Employee, upon request, at least two (2) weeks of annual vacation entitlement during the summer months.

  • Scheduling of Vacation Leave In scheduling vacation leave with pay for an employee the Employer shall, subject to the operational requirements of the service, make every reasonable effort to comply with the employee's wishes.

  • Vacation Leave 11.1 Employees will retain and carry forward any eligible and unused vacation leave that was accrued prior to the effective date of this Agreement.

  • Granting of Vacation Leave In granting vacation leave with pay to an employee, the Employer shall make every reasonable effort to:

  • Education Leave If required by the Hospital, an employee shall be entitled to leave of absence with pay and without loss of seniority and benefits to write examinations to upgrade his or her employment qualifications. Where employees are required by the Hospital to take courses to upgrade or acquire new employment qualifications, the Hospital shall pay the full costs associated with the courses. Subject to operational requirements, the Hospital will make every reasonable effort to grant requests for necessary changes to an employee's schedule to enable attendance at a recognized up-grading course or seminar related to employment with the Hospital."
