STEWARDS AND UNION OFFICERS. A Xxxxxxx shall be appointed through the Business Manager or Acting Business Manager of the Local Union. A Xxxxxxx will be appointed by the Business Manager or Acting Business Manager of the Local Union. Written notification of this appointment will be given within twenty-four (24) hours to the Employer. The Xxxxxxx will represent all the Employees working therein and who fall within the scope of the Agreement. The Xxxxxxx shall not be discriminated against for carrying out his duties. Stewards shall be permitted to perform duties during regular working hours, but the Union acknowledges that Stewards have regular duties to perform and are accountable for the same quantity and quality of work as any other Employee. They may have leave of their regular duties to perform Union duties only with the permission of their immediate supervisor with the understanding that a privilege so granted will not be abused. The Business Manager or Acting Business Manager of the Union shall have access to all work on application to the Employer or his representative. Such Business Manager or Acting Business Manager may discuss with the Xxxxxxx any matters that are in dispute with respect to the particular work. This clause shall not be interpreted as a licence to discuss general Union business but reasonable opportunity or provisions to discuss Union business shall be given the Employee on request and on his own time. The Business Managers or Acting Business Managers must carry accident insurance to cover them in the event of an accident on jobs or projects that they have access to in the course of their duties. COMBINED COMMERCIAL AGREEMENT LOCAL APPENDIX Employees who are required by the Employer to work out of the home office area from where they cannot return daily shall be paid their full travelling or room and board expenses. Time consumed in travelling at the beginning and at the end of the project shall be paid at the rate of single time. No more than eight (8) hours travelling time shall be paid for in any twenty-four (24) hour period. In the event of the job extending for a prolonged period of time, transportation to the home office or the Employee's home, whichever is closer, is to be provided on the following basis: Jobs within one hundred (100) miles of home office, once every two weeks. The first employee on the job shall be acting Shop Xxxxxxx until one is appointed by the Business Manager. The Shop Xxxxxxx must be on the job at all times while the job is in progress, and shall be the second to last man laid off. He may have the privilege to consult with the xxxxxxx about any minor difficulty that might arise. STEWARDS AND UNION OFFICERS shall adhere to the following procedure in processing grievances and in carrying out all other functions of their offices. A. An employee having a grievance as defined herein shall notify his Xxxxxxx who will notify the employee's immediate supervisor to arrange for the release of the employee to meet with the Xxxxxxx. B. Before leaving his job, the Xxxxxxx shall record on a Xxxxxxx Activity Sheet the time he starts his Union work. Upon request, a copy of the record will be furnished to the Union. C. Upon returning to his job, the Xxxxxxx shall first report to his own supervisor before resuming work if the supervisor is available, or, if he is unavailable, as soon as possible after resuming work. D. In the event of the absence of the Xxxxxxx and the Alternate Xxxxxxx, the President shall be called in their place. In the absence of the President, the Vice-President shall be called. E. A Xxxxxxx having an individual grievance in connection with his work may ask for the President to assist him in adjusting the grievance with his supervisor.
STEWARDS AND UNION OFFICERS. ‌ It is agreed and understood by the parties of the Memorandum of Understanding that there shall not be more than seven (7) stewards within the representation unit as herein defined. Local 830, AFSCME shall give to the Agricultural Commissioner/Director of Weights & Measures of the County of Los Angeles a written list of the names of employees selected as stewards, which list shall be kept current by Local 830, AFSCME. Only those employees designated as authorized stewards will be recognized by the department. Local 830, AFSCME, agrees, whenever investigation of processing of formal grievances is to be transacted during working hours, only that amount of time necessary to bring about a prompt disposition of the matter will be utilized. Local 830, AFSCME representatives, when leaving their work locations to transact such investigations or processing shall first obtain permission from their immediate supervisor and inform him/her of the nature of the business. Permission to leave will be granted within a reasonable time unless such absence would cause an undue interruption of work. If such permission cannot be granted, the xxxxxxx will be informed when time will be made available. Such time will not be more than twenty-four (24) hours, excluding Saturday, Sunday, and legal holidays, after the time of the xxxxxxx'x request, unless otherwise mutually agreed. Prior to entering other work locations, a xxxxxxx shall inform the cognizant supervisor of the nature of his/her business. Permission to leave the job will be granted to the employee involved unless such absence would cause an undue interruption of work. If the employee cannot be made available, the xxxxxxx will be informed when the employee will be made available. Local 830, AFSCME agrees that a xxxxxxx shall not log compensatory or premium pay time for the time spent performing any function of a xxxxxxx. The xxxxxxx shall perform the aforementioned duties without loss of pay.

THE EMPLOYER SHALL BE NOTIFIED IN WRITING FROM THE LOCAL UNION OF THE APPOINTMENT OF THE SHOP XXXXXXX. THE FIRST EMPLOYEE ON THE JOB SHALL BE ACTING XXXXXXX UNTIL A JOB XXXXXXX OR SHOP XXXXXXX IS APPOINTED BY THE BUSINESS MANAGER OR BUSINESS AGENT OF THE LOCAL UNION. THE XXXXXXX MUST BE ON THE JOB AT ALL TIMES WHILE THE JOB IS IN PROGRESS AND HE SHALL HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO CONSULT WITH THE XXXXXXX ABOUT ANY MINOR DIFFICULTY THAT MAY ARISE. THE SHOP XXXXXXX SHALL BE INFORMED OF ALL LAY-OFFS AS FAR IN ADVANCE AS POSSIBLE AND GIVEN A LIST OF THE EMPLOYEES WHO ARE TO BE LAID-OFF. STEWARDS SHALL BE PERMITTED TO PERFORM DUTIES DURING WORKING HOURS, BUT THE UNION ACKNOWLEDGES THAT STEWARDS HAVE REGULAR DUTIES TO PERFORM AND ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SAME QUALITY OF WORK AS ANY OTHER EMPLOYEE. THEY MAY HAVE LEAVE REGULAR PERFORM UNION DUTIES ONLY WITH THE PERMISSION OF THEIR IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR WITHOUT SUFFERING LOSS OF PAY AND WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT A PRIVILEGE SO GRANTED WILL NOT BE ABUSED. THE XXXXXXX SHALL BE THE SECOND FROM LAST MAN LAID OFF. SHOP STEWARDS SHALL NOT BE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS DUTIES. WHEN A SHOP XXXXXXX IS DISCHARGED OR OFF FROM HIS EMPLOYMENT THE EMPLOYER WILL NOTIFY THE BUSINESS MANAGER’S OFFICE. THE BUSINESS MANAGER OR BUSINESS AGENT OF THE UNION SHALL HAVE ACCESS TO ALL WORK ON APPLICATION TO THE EMPLOYER OR HIS REPRESENTATIVE. SUCH BUSINESS MANAGER OR AGENT MAY DISCUSS WITH THE XXXXXXX ANY THAT ARE IN DISPUTE WITH RESPECT TO THE PARTICULAR WORK. THIS CLAUSE SHALL NOT BE INTERPRETED AS A LICENSE TO DISCUSS GENERAL UNION BUSINESS BUT REASONABLE OPPORTUNITY OR PROVISIONS TO DISCUSS UNION BUSINESS SHALL BE GIVEN THE EMPLOYEE ON REQUEST AND ON HIS OWN TIME.
