Union Information for New Employees. The Employer agrees to acquaint new employees with the fact that a Collective Agreement is in effect and the conditions of employment set out in the articles dealing with Union Security and Dues Check-off. A new employee shall be advised of the name and location of his\her Union representative. Whenever the Union representative is employed in the same work area as the new employee, the employee's immediate manager will introduce him\her to his\her Union representative who will provide the employee with a copy of the Collective Agreement. The Employer agrees that a Union representative will be given an opportunity to interview each new employee within regular working hours, without loss of pay, for fifteen (15) minutes sometime during the first day of employment for the purpose of acquainting the new employee with the benefits and duties of Union membership and the employee's responsibilities and obligations to the Employer and the Union.

An employee requesting a leave of absence shall do so in writing at least two (2) weeks prior to the commencement of the requested leave, except in cases of emergency. The Company will respond to such a request in writing within one (1) week. The Company will provide the Union with a copy of a leave of absence authorization form. Provided the Company is still able to efficiently operate, a leave of absence without pay shall, upon the application of the Chairperson, be granted for any member of the Shop Committee and, if necessary, for up to three (3) members of the bargaining unit to attend to Union business provided the request is made in writing to a Company representative at least one (1) working day prior to the commencement of the leave of absence. The Company will pay lost time for all Union leaves under this article to employees at their hourly rate of pay, and such hourly rate of pay will be reimbursed by CAW Local The Company will grant employees maternity and parental leave in accordance with the provisions of the Canada Labour Board Regulations.
