Casual Teachers. A School must not fail to re-engage a regular Casual Teacher because: (i) the Teacher or Teacher’s spouse or de facto is pregnant; or (ii) the Teacher is or has been immediately absent on parental leave. The rights of the School in relation to engagement and re-engagement of Casual Teachers are not affected, other than in accordance with this clause.

Casual Teachers. ‌ 4.3.1 A casual teacher will be engaged as such in accordance with the provisions of the Act. 4.3.2 A casual teacher will be employed: (a) for a minimum period of three (3) hours each day; and (b) up to a maximum of eleven (11) consecutive working days in respect of any one engagement. 4.3.3 Subject to subclause 2(a), casual teachers will be paid for the hours they are required to work. 4.3.4 A casual teacher will be paid an hourly rate calculated by: (a) dividing the fortnightly rate of salary prescribed in Schedule 1 – S1.1 (Wages, Salaries and Allowances) to this Agreement for a teacher of equivalent teaching experience and academic qualification by sixty (60); and (b) adding a casual loading of twenty-five per cent (25%) (prior to 1 January 2013 the casual loading was twenty-three per cent (23%)). 4.3.5 The casual loading is paid in compensation for not having an entitlement to a range of conditions, including the following: (a) paid leave entitlements under this Agreement that do not apply to casual employees (including annual leave, paid personal/carer’s leave and compassionate leave); (b) payment for absences on a public holiday; (c) payment in lieu of notice of termination; and (d) Redundancy Pay (clause 2.6). 4.3.6 Casual teachers in secondary schools will be paid for preparation and correction time at the rate of one hour for every five hours of teaching time, but will not receive such payment in respect of the first two (2) days of any one engagement. 4.3.7 For the purposes of salary increments a casual teacher will be deemed to have completed a year of service when the aggregate amount of time paid is 1,200 hours (prior to 1 January 2013 a casual teacher was deemed to have completed a year of service when the aggregate amount of time paid was 1,000 hours).

Casual Teachers. (i) The salary payable to a Casual Teacher shall be the annual salary paid to a Teacher on Step 8Band 2 on the salary table in Table 1ASalaries of Part B - Monetary Rates divided by 204 in the case of a daily payment and 408 in the case of a half-day payment, plus 5%. These rates are set out in Part B, Table 3 – Casual Rates of Part B - Monetary Rates. (ii) The rates in clause 6.6(c)(i) include the pro-rata payment in respect of annual leave to which the Teacher is entitled in accordance with the NES.

Casual Teachers. Where the School has given notice of termination to a teacher, the teacher must be allowed up to one day's time off pro-rata without loss of pay for the purpose of seeking other employment. The time off is to be taken at times that are convenient to the teacher after consultation with the School. Payment on termination of employment The School will pay an employee no later than seven days after the day on which employment is terminated, for wages and other entitlements Notice of Termination by Teacher In order to terminate his or her employment a teacher shall give the School at least seven (7) term weeks' notice in writing. The School may reduce or waive the required period of notice in extenuating circumstances provided that, where practical, the teacher has given seven (7) term weeks' notice of intent (in writing) to seek alternative employment. The School will not unreasonably refuse to reduce or waive the notice. Notice of intent given by a teacher does not become binding as notice to terminate until such notice to terminate is received by the School in writing. Where a teacher does not give the appropriate notice and there is no agreement to reduce or waive the notice period, the School may withhold payment of up to two (2) weeks salary and allowances which has been authorised by the employee and is reasonable in the circumstances. Statement of Service Upon the termination of employment of a teacher (other than a casual teacher) the School will provide upon the request of the teacher, a statement of service setting out the commencement and cessation dates of employment. At a teacher’s request the School must provide to the teacher (other than a casual teacher) whose employment has been terminated a written statement specifying: (1) the commencement and cessation dates of employment; (2) the number and range of duties performed; (3) any promotion positions held; and
Casual Teachers. For the purposes of payment, there are two categories of casual teacher – Casual teacher rate 1 and Casual teacher rate 2. Daily rates are detailed at Annex A6 of this Agreement.
Casual Teachers may be employed for less than a full day but not for less than 3 consecutive hours.
