Parent Engagement. Columbus Collegiate Academy - West is deeply accountable to the students it serves because their parents make the ultimate act of faith: to bring their children to our doors and trust our school to deliver an outstanding education and to fulfill our school mission. Close 13 Students will be given several opportunities for remediation (i.e., Homework Center, Saturday Academy, Summer Academy, and teacher led-tutoring). communication with parents is essential. Together, we enter into a three-way partnership between parents, students, and the school to ensure a successful academic future for each child. To ensure the voice of these parents is well heard, CCA-West will create a Parent Council of at least five members, with the chair and vice chair elected or chosen for one-year terms. Parents will be elected to the Parent Council by a vote of parents whose students are currently enrolled in the school. The Parent Council will support the mission of Columbus Collegiate by: • Coordinating parent volunteer efforts to support student recruitment, enrichment classes, and community gatherings; • Gathering and reporting data about parent satisfaction; • Reporting twice annually to the Board of Trustees regarding their findings; • Ensuring that school communications are sufficiently accessible to Spanish-speaking parents; and • Planning parent events that support the academic mission of the school, such as high school achievement nights, student academic performance nights, and parenting seminars to support academic achievement. In addition to this council, the school administration will establish frequent, formal communication with parents to support the school mission. Families will be welcomed to the school through an orientation that will review school policies in detail, celebrate student learning, and include the signing of parent-student-school contracts. Parents will attend conferences at the school two times annually, at which time assessment results and report cards will be reviewed in detail. Progress reports requiring parental signature will be sent home at regular intervals between these conferences. Teachers will call parents of their homeroom students on a regular basis, both to report positive academic results and behaviors and deliver clear feedback when expectations are not met. A monthly school newsletter will communicate the effectiveness of the program and the excitement of the school to members of the community.
Parent Engagement. Charter School shall not require a parent or legal guardian of a prospective or enrolled student to perform volunteer service hours, or make payment of fees or other monies, goods, or services in lieu of performing volunteer service, as a condition of his/her child’s admission, continued enrollment, attendance, or participation in the school’s educational activities, or otherwise discriminate against a student in any manner because his/her parent cannot, has not, or will not provide volunteer service to Charter School.

Parent Engagement. The School works to involve families in their child’s school and education from the outset. For families new to the School, they can expect communication and invitations to participate in numerous events. These include recruitment events, open houses, Welcome to IDEA events, registration, summer engagement events, New Family and Student Orientation, and Back to School / Meet the Teacher events. These events are geared toward helping families transition into IDEA. Events emphasize IDEA’s academic model, culture, and the partnership between home and school. IDEA works to ensure that every family is onboarded, meaning they attend registration and a Welcome to IDEA session. While this event is highly recommended, it is not required of parents or students – children are not denied their seat, nor are offers rescinded, due to lack of attendance. Once students are enrolled at the School, distribution of information is paramount. IPS staff believe that it is crucial for students to have families who are well informed and engaged. IPS accomplishes this through several avenues, ensuring that staff can share information in a way that reaches the families Additional events are held on campus throughout the year to encourage parents and families to interact with campus leadership, including report-card pick-up night, parent walk-throughs, and volunteer programs. The School may also offer town-hall meetings throughout the year to get feedback from parents and families. In terms of active engagement in student learning, parents are asked to participate in several ways, if they are able. Parents are asked to support the daily and summer reading of younger students. They are also asked to check homework completion. Students typically receive a notebook where they write down their assignments and their accomplishments; parents are asked to sign this regularly, ensuring that students have shared their progress and are also being held accountable at home for homework and daily reading. Every parent has access to student learning data via an online portal, and direct communication is often conducted via cell phone, either through an app, text message, or a call. The principal may require teachers to send a certain number of messages to parents daily or weekly, with an emphasis on sharing student progress and success.
Parent Engagement. Generally, team meetings, IEPs, and meetings will be conducted remotely. In cases where parents request in-person meetings, these will be accommodated. (These accommodations may be the IEP Liaison meeting in-person with parent(s) with health and safety protocols in place and all other team members joining the meeting remotely.
