Parent Expectations. In order for students to experience all the success and benefits that this program can offer, NPD117 encourages parents to: ● Help ensure the Chromebook battery is charged each day ● Participate in the Chromebook orientation with your student ● Share in your child’s excitement about this great opportunity for learning ● Learn along with your child as he/she uses this instructional tool ● Monitor your child’s appropriate Internet use and adherence to Internet guidelines when using his/her Chromebook. The NPD117 content filter is in place to prevent access to inappropriate material. While this is a robust filtering system, inappropriate content can, at times, be accessed. If this occurs, students should immediately report such an event to school personnel, and parents are encouraged to reinforce this with your daughter/son. ● Assist in completing appropriate paperwork in the event that the Chromebook requires repair, is lost or stolen ● Ensure that only the student and family members will use this computer for school-related purposes Caring For Chromebook ● For prolonged periods of inactivity, please shut down the computer completely before closing lid. ● Wait until the Chromebook screen is completely black before closing the lid. ● Dimming the LCD brightness of your screen and turning off Bluetooth will extend the battery run time. ● Take extreme caution with the screen. The screens are very susceptible to damage from excessive pressure or weight. NEVER PICK UP THE CHROMEBOOK BY THE SCREEN or place your finger directly on the screen with any force. Always close the lid before moving your Chromebook. ● Adding anything to the case beyond the Chromebook will damage the Chromebook. Textbooks, notebooks, binders, and other materials, are not allowed in the Chromebook case. ● Never sit on the Chromebook or case. ● Liquids, food and other debris can damage the Chromebook. Avoid eating or drinking while using the Chromebook. DO NOT keep food or food wrappers in your case. ● Take care when inserting cords, cables and other removable storage devices to avoid damage to the Chromebook ports. First, plug your power supply into the electrical outlet. Second, plug your power cord into your Chromebook. When disconnecting, reverse this process. ● Do not expose your Chromebook to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or ultraviolet light for extended periods of time (including in a car). Parent Expectations. Being a parent in Cheer Extreme-Maryland’s All-Star Cheer program can be an amazing experience. Help us make your child’s experience just as amazing by supporting both your child, and the program, with a positive example for your child to follow. In addition to encouraging our expectations of your child, we also ask that you agree to the following: • Good sportsmanship is mandatory at all competitions, practices, and gym functions. • Do not try to get your child’s attention on the floor during practice or warmups. • Parents and coaches are not to discuss any athlete unless it regards that parent’s child. • Parents are always welcome and encouraged to attend events, but are expected to attend as spectators and not extra coaches or commentators. The coaches or Director will have sole communication with the competition officials. Parents are not permitted to contact officials directly. If you have a concern, please discuss it with your coach or the Director only. • Help us teach the importance of commitment, follow through, and dedication to your children. Please help your child be organized and time efficient. Missed practices due to oversleeping, procrastination on homework, a job or non-cheer related activity, will not be accepted as an excused absence. • Show respect for the coaching staff, other teams, and hosting organizations. There should be no drug or alcohol consumption while traveling with the team. • It is ultimately a parent’s responsibility to financially support the activities that they choose to allow their children to participate in. Parents must understand that it is their responsibility to follow through with the financial obligations associated with tuition and other fees. Should you fall behind or fail to make the necessary payments, your child's involvement in the cheer program may be jeopardized or even terminated at the Director’s discretion without refunds or reimbursements. • All transportation to and accommodations at events will be the sole responsibility of each family. We will do our best to get information to you in a timely fashion; however, if for any reason a competition is cancelled or rescheduled, Unique Sports Academy will not be responsible for any travel reimbursements. • Attend parent meetings. Please do not instruct your player, or anyone else's player. ● Please leave the coaching up to us!!! ● Please model positive behavior in stands to both teams, and officials. Player/Parent/Communication: ● All soccer specific issues such as playing time, positions, strategies, etc will only be discussed between the coaches and the players. If your player has questions or concerns about their role on the team, please encourage them to speak with us directly so we can provide feedback to help them achieve their goals. ● "24 hour rule"-If you are upset about something that has gone on during a game please DO NOT approach the coaches on the field after the game. Please respect the "24 hour rule" and contact the coach after that time has passed. This serves as a "cool down" period and allows both parties to speak more reasonably. ● Should a parent wish to discuss on the field issues, the parent must contact their coach to set up a meeting before or after practice. The coach will discuss with your player only, and will not discuss any other player. Parent Expectations. As parent guardians we will support and ensure any digital device supplied by the school and taken home: ● is used for educational purposes to support my child's learning, not as a device to play games on or to be used for entertainment ● is insured under my home and contents policy ● is treated with care never to be used near drink or water, and is away from sunlight and heat ● will be supervised when they are working on the device, especially when online. When the Chromebook is being used at home, the school's filtering is not applied as they are not connecting to the school wifi. The only filtering that will apply is the filtering that has been set up and applied at home ● that the device is used exclusively by the student that has the device loaned out in their name, not any other siblings or relatives ● the device is connected to a secure, password protected wireless network ● that even at home students follow the School of The Good Shepherd Information and Communication Technology Acceptable use agreement. Parents need to be aware that they are liable for the loss of any device . If a student loses a device, the parents are liable for the replacement cost of the device. If a device is damaged by a student, the device will be assessed and sent for repairs. The cost of any repairs needed for the device, that are not covered under warranty, will also be invoiced to families, regardless of the location of the breakage happening.
