Accrual and Usage. (1) A full-time employee shall accumulate sick leave credits at the rate of one day per month (4 hours per bi-weekly pay period) of employment which may be used at the discretion of the employee in the event of illness or injury which is not job-related. In accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Civil Service Board, one-third (1/3) of the employee’s accrued sick leave may be used after exhaustion of injury- on-duty time; however, the combination of temporary disability payments and sick leave pay shall not exceed one hundred percent (100%) of the employee’s regular rate of pay. Such usage shall not exceed the maximum amount of the employee's accumulation. A part- time career or non-career (+1,040) employee shall earn sick leave on a pro rata basis.
(2) An employee who while on vacation is bedridden for three (3) or more days, or hospitalized for one or more days, due to illness or injury may have such days charged to accrued sick leave provided the employee submits appropriate written verification from the treating doctor or the hospital in which he/she was confined.
(3) An employee in active service of the City eligible to accumulate sick leave credits may in January each year, receive a cash payment for twenty-five percent (25%) of the unused portion of sick leave credits accumulated during the preceding calendar year from January 1 through December 31, provided the employee shall have to his/her credit on December 31, immediately preceding the date for payment, a total of at least sixty (60) sick leave days (480 hours) accumulated. The employee shall be paid for such percentage of sick leave accumulation at the rate of pay which the employee was receiving on January 1 of each year in which payment is made. The amount of time for which an employee is paid shall be deducted from the employee's total accumulation.
(4) An eligible employee may elect to receive cash payments for accumulated sick leave by notifying the Payroll Section, Department of Finance, in writing of such election no later than December 1 of each year.
Accrual and Usage. All employees shall accrue sick leave at the rate of four and six-tenths (4.6) hours for each completed eighty (80) hours of service in pay status. Sick leave shall be used for absence due to illness or injury of the employee or a member of the employee’s immediate family, which requires the care of the employee, or exposure to contagious diseases which could be communicated to other employees. In addition, an employee may be granted up to two (2) days absence for paternity leave at the time of birth of offspring and subsequent convalescence of the employee’s spouse. All accumulated sick time shall be posted on all bulletin boards by all departments. Employees who, after reporting for work, are then sent home on sick leave may be required when returning to duty, to sign a statement as set forth in the Ohio Revised Code, Section 124.38 to justify the use of sick leave.

(4) Effective January 1, 2022, Paragraphs (2) and (3), above will be replaced with the following provisions:
(a) Employees who have at least four hundred and eighty (480) hours of sick leave on November 1 in any calendar year, may make an irrevocable election to forego the accrual of not more than twenty-four (24) hours of sick leave during the following calendar year and receive instead a cash payment for the number of sick leave hours designated in the designated election.
(b) Notification of the irrevocable election must be made in writing to the Payroll Division, Department of Finance, between November 1 and November 30. The payment will be made on the last paycheck in May of the calendar year following the irrevocable election. Payment shall be made at the hourly rate of pay the employee is receiving at the time the payment is made.

Accrual and Usage. All employees shall earn and be credited with two days of sick leave benefits on the first day of their work year. Employees earn the remaining number of sick leave days in hourly increments, based on hours worked (including all accessed paid leave). The sick leave earned in one year may not exceed the maximum annual amounts authorized in article 13.1.

2. An employee will not be paid for accrued leave in lieu of taking such leave except upon separation, or pursuant to Section 13, paragraph 1 or 2 of this article.
3. Annual leave may be accrued to a maximum of three hundred sixty (360) regular hours.

Accrual and Usage. All employees will be eligible to accrue and use up to a maximum of forty (40) hours per person per fiscal year, at the rate of one and half hours (1.5) for each hour worked in excess of forty (40) hours in any workweek. Any compensatory time turned in over 40 hours at the end of a fiscal year will be paid as overtime. All compensatory time earned and not used during the prior fiscal year will cease as of September 30 and will be paid as cash wages to the employee on the first pay period of the new fiscal year. On October 1 of each fiscal year, all employees’ compensatory time balances shall return to zero hours. Upon resignation or other separation from City employment, an employee shall be compensated for any earned and not used accrued compensatory time. Requests for use of compensatory time will be submitted to the appropriate supervisor seventy-two (72) hours in advance of the requested time-off. Obviously, exigent circumstances may apply and that would waive the minimum seventy-two (72) hour notice. Compensatory time will be charged in one (1) hour minimum increments.
Accrual and Usage. Beginning January 1, 2020 PTO will accrue each pay period. Employees will accrue from each Employee’s date of hire (anniversary date). There will be no “dump” of PTO at the end of each year. The accrued PTO will be shown on the Employee’s check stub each pay period. Employees must use 65% of PTO in the year in which it is earned. Unused PTO up to 35% may be carried over from anniversary year to anniversary year into an employee’s PTO bank. The Sheriff or his/her designee may permit, in his/her sole discretion, an Employee to carry over additional PTO if the Employee was unable to take time off due to Departmental needs. Employees are encouraged to take PTO throughout the year and not wait until their anniversary is near. The maximum PTO accumulation is 1,000 hours.
