Custodian/Maintenance. An employee who has worked his/her full normally scheduled work shift will not be required to return to work without at least ten (10) hours of off duty time, except in case of emergencies
Custodian/Maintenance. 1. In the event of a work location reduction in force, including reductions caused by the discontinuance of a facility or its relocation, the employee shall be laid off in the reverse order of seniority of the employee consistent with Title 18A: 17-4.
2. At least fourteen (14) calendar days before being laid off a custodian/maintenance employee shall be informed of all vacancies in any other work locations in his/her classification in the department in which he/she holds an appointment for the purpose of giving him/her an opportunity to be exercised within said fourteen (14) calendar days to fill such vacancy. If he/she requests appointment to such vacancy, he/she shall be assigned thereto. In the event that vacancies in such classification exist in several work locations he/she shall be assigned to the vacancy assigned by the department. In the event more than one appointed employee in such classifications is laid off and there are insufficient vacancies for such assignments, then the laid-off employees with the highest seniority shall first be assigned to the vacancies involved.
3. The Board shall maintain a seniority list of custodian/maintenance employees and cafeteria employees, copies of which shall be furnished to the Association as of July 1. Employees will be recalled to work from lay-off in the order of their seniority.
Custodian/Maintenance. 9.1 If evening activities at a school involve all or most parts of the building and the custodian(s) does not have access to clean those areas during a substantial portion of the shift, the custodian may consult with their supervisor regarding the priority order for cleaning to be done during the shift.
Custodian/Maintenance. Custodians shall be under the primary supervision of the Director of Buildings & Grounds and also the building principal. Principals have the responsibility to change work assignments on a temporary basis when need arises. During the periods when building administrators are on vacation, it is the responsibility of the Director of Buildings and Grounds to supervise assignments, and to complete necessary summer work or other important jobs in time for the opening of school after recess periods. If five working days advance notice is given for a personal day or sick day absence, a regular employee can be used on an overtime basis.
Custodian/Maintenance. Custodian and Maintenance positions are for 52 weeks; assistant custodians by assignment. Daily/yearly work schedules are by assignment as determined by the Superintendent/designee. For those individuals on full-time assignment, an eight hour work day for a five day period will be a standard work week. All overtime and work assignments must be approved by the Superintendent or designee in advance. Extreme emergencies can be the only exception. Any employee working a regular shift starting at 3 p.m. or later will receive an additional twenty-five (25) cents per hour shift differential for their entire shift. If a custodial employee is requested to and does perform work that normally is performed by an employee holding a higher classification, such employee shall be placed on the salary schedule for the position in the higher classification (based upon the replacement employee's experience.) When a custodial employee performs the duties of the Head Custodian the employee will be selected from within the building on a classification seniority rotation basis (per absence). If no building custodial employee is able to fill the assignment, a substitute custodian may be utilized. If no substitute custodian can fill the assignment, management has the discretion to fill the assignment as necessary. One seniority list shall be established for each building for all events/activities requiring custodial coverage, as determined by the Business Manager. The lists, which include all custodians currently employed in that building, will be used to assign which custodian have coverage duties. All events/activities requiring custodial coverage shall be posted on a weekly basis and shall be awarded on a rotated basis from a posted seniority list. If the event/activity has been posted and the eligible custodian has not indicated his/her availability (or his/her acceptance) by 3:00PM on the school day two days prior to (excluding weekends and holidays) the scheduled event/activity is to commence, the custodian will be marked as refused. The Head Custodian will fill the position with the next custodian in rotation sequence from the posted seniority list. When any school building is utilized on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, a custodian may be required to open and close the building. The custodian will be required to clean the building prior to closing the building. Custodian/Maintenance. The day shift shall be from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. including a one-half (1/2) hour meal break. Custodian: The evening custodial shift hours shall be from 2:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., including a thirty-minute lunch. Substitutes for Classified Absences: Custodians: Substitutes will only be hired for Custodians if there is more than one Custodian absent at a site in a single day. The District shall make every reasonable effort to ensure that there are no less than two Custodians at each site every day. Maintenance: No substitutes shall be hired for Maintenance Worker and Lead Maintenance Worker classifications unless there are more than two Maintenance Workers absent in a single day. The District reserves the right to bring in additional substitutes on a case by case basis.

Probationary – Custodian/Maintenance employees shall, at the time of their initial hire by the Board of Education, serve a ninety (90) day probationary period, during which time they shall not have access to the contractual grievance procedure and their employment, upon notice, may be terminated by the Board for any reason whatsoever.

The regular work hours for custodians, maintenance, mechanics, mail/clerk/assistant custodian, and technology classifications shall be eight (8) continuous hours per day Monday through Friday, excluding lunch. There will be two (2) third shift Assistant Custodian positions (Classification G) at Brush High School. These two (2) third shift Assistant Custodians at Brush shall work Monday through Saturday. Utility Maintenance positions work Wednesday through Sunday, 7 am to 4 pm. All Head Custodians, both 1st and 2nd shift, and Unit Custodians must hold a Boiler License Certificate or have completed the necessary classes or coursework to obtain one. However, when bidding on custodial jobs, an employee who has a boiler license will be given priority over an employee who has only completed the necessary classes or coursework to obtain one. If any custodian-maintenance employee accepts a position in a building that has properly-sized heating vessels to allow for contact time to receive a boiler license, then the employee must obtain the license at the first opportunity available or else be subject to re- assignment at the District's discretion.
