Extended Unpaid Leave. Upon written request, a permanent employee who has completed two (2) years of service shall be granted unpaid leave to a maximum of twelve (12) months, subject to the operational requirements of the Employer's operations and the availability of qualified replacement staff. An employee shall be entitled to up to a maximum of twelve (12) months unpaid leave for each two (2) years of service with the understanding that no employee can have more than twelve (12) consecutive months of unpaid leave at any one time. While on such leave employees shall continue to accumulate service, unless they would have been otherwise laid off, for seniority purposes only. The minimum amount of unpaid leave an employee may have under this Clause is eight (8) weeks. An employee will not be granted extended unpaid leave to take another position with the same Employer whether inside or outside a bargaining unit.
Extended Unpaid Leave. Leaves of absence without pay may be granted at the sole discretion of the Board to an employee who has completed a probationary period (except military leave). Any request for unpaid leave shall be submitted in writing to the Superintendent. The Board reserves the right to recommend the beginning and terminating dates of the leave of absence to correspond as nearly as possible with the beginning or ending of school or marking period.
Extended Unpaid Leave. A leave without pay may be granted by the Board upon the request of a teacher. Said leave may be granted for such reasons as full-time advanced study, teaching abroad, travel, work study programs, etc. Said leave may not be used for the purpose of obtaining other employment. Request for said leave shall be received by the Superintendent prior to March 1 of the school year prior to the commencement of said leave. In the event a teacher wishes to apply for an additional year of leave, said teacher must request approval in writing to the Superintendent prior to March 1. The granting of an extended unpaid leave may, at the Board's discretion, be contingent upon employment of a teacher qualified to assume the applicant's duties. A proper notification in writing must be received by the Superintendent prior to March 1 of the year of the leave or three (3) months prior to the end of the leave for a leave which does not coincide with the school year.
Extended Unpaid Leave. A) Any employee shall have the right to make written application for an unpaid leave of absence of not to exceed one (1) full year, without pay or fringe benefits except as provided under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). A written application shall include the reason for requesting such leave and the anticipated duration of the leave. Consideration may be given by the Superintendent or his/her designee to leave requests under this provision for alternative career leaves. Leaves under this provision shall be granted at the sole discretion of the Superintendent or his/her designee.
B) At least thirty (30) calendar days prior to the expiration date of the approved leave, if approved, the employee must give written notice of intent to return to their position by certified mail. Failure to give such timely notice shall be deemed a voluntary resignation. An employee providing such timely notices shall be returned to the same position or another position for which he is certified and qualified, subject to possible restrictions elsewhere in the Agreement.
C) It is expressly understood that seniority shall not accrue beyond six (6) months and increment shall not be granted while on approved leave under this provision.
D) A person employed by the District to temporarily fill a position under this section shall not be considered a member of the bargaining unit.
Extended Unpaid Leave. 1. Any Leave under this Article, beyond 12 weeks in a year, may be granted by the Board upon request of the employee.
2. An employee granted such an extended leave (I.1.), may continue participation in group benefit plans, with the exception of term life insurance, at his/her own expense. Appropriate arrangements shall be made with the Treasurer to continue in such plans prior to the beginning of such leave.
3. The employee shall notify the Superintendent of intent to return from an extended leave at least six months in advance but not later than April 1, if the intent is to return in September. If the Superintendent is not notified, a vacancy shall exist.
Extended Unpaid Leave. With the approval of the Employer, a permanent employee who has completed 3900 hours of service shall be granted leave up to an initial maximum of twelve (12) months without pay. This leave is without pay and without loss of accumulated seniority and accumulated leave. An employee shall be entitled up to a maximum of twelve (12) months unpaid leave for each 3900 hours of service with the understanding that an employee with an additional 3900 hours of service may request up to an additional twelve

In any event the maximum seniority which an employee may accrue under this Clause is one (1) year. The minimum amount of unpaid leave an employee may have under this Clause is eight (8) weeks. An employee will not be granted extended unpaid leave to take another position with the same Employer whether inside or outside a bargaining unit.
Extended Unpaid Leave. Upon application in writing leave without pay up to a period of twelve months may be approved by the General Manager. Leave without pay will be granted only when all annual leave entitlements have been first expended and the period of leave without pay shall not be credited as service for any subsequent service-related entitlement calculations. This leave will interrupt but not break service. If the employee taking leave is unable to give exact guaranteed dates of absence, placement on return from leave without pay is conditional on a suitable vacancy and grading, and location cannot be guaranteed. The above shall not apply in the case of an employee returning from Parental Leave as service is deemed to be unbroken for the whole of the period of Parental Leave.
Extended Unpaid Leave.
6.13.1 An employee may apply to access extended unpaid leave on the following basis:
(a) at least six (6) months’ notice is given in all but exceptional circumstances;
(b) at least three (3) years continuous service has been completed prior to the intended commencement of each period of leave;
(c) notwithstanding (b) above, new graduate primary teachers subject to the provisions of any staff mobility clause (clause 7.16 of this Agreement) would usually be required to complete four (4) years of continuous service prior to the intended commencement of leave;
(d) the period of leave sought is a maximum of twelve (12) months duration and should normally occur within the calendar year.
6.13.2 A subsequent application for consecutive unpaid leave may also be considered, in special circumstances.
6.13.3 Approval of extended unpaid leave applications are granted at the employer’s discretion.
6.13.4 Extended unpaid leave can also be used in conjunction with other forms of leave with their own prescribed parameters, as detailed elsewhere in this Agreement. Specifically, this clause does not override an employee’s access to extended unpaid leave associated with parental leave, carer’s leave, defence force leave or any other industrial provision.
Extended Unpaid Leave. Upon written request a permanent employee who has completed five (5) years of service may be granted leave of absence without pay, seniority or benefits and without loss of accumulated seniority and benefits provided that such leave shall not cause an unreasonable interference with the Employer's operations and can be accommodated without additional costs to the Employer. Employees shall not be subject to any benefits of this Agreement during this period. The minimum amount of unpaid leave an employee may request under this clause is sixteen (16) weeks.
