Floater. A member who is assigned as a Floater shall, upon his/her request, be relieved from such Floater duty, provided there is another member, in the judgment of the Chief of the Fire Department, who is qualified to perform such duty and who has less seniority than such Floater. The Town, as soon as practicable, shall train all members who have less seniority than the least senior member assigned as a Floater so that such members are qualified for such Floater duty.

Floater. The following represents the agreement reached by the Parties during Labour Negotiations for the renewal of the Collective Agreement which expires March 31, 2021, for the purpose of filling of vacant shifts at multiple locations within a Region. In that regard, the Parties agree to the creation of a Full-Time permanent position of Support Worker I - Floater. The position of Support Worker I - Floater shall be in salary band 3 paid at the same salary range as Support Worker I. The normal work week will be on the basis of one hundred and fifty (150) hours averaged over a four (4) week period with a thirty (30) minute paid meal period each work day.
Floater. In lieu of Remembrance Day, November 11, all permanent and probationary employees shall be allowed eight (8) hours off per year to be known as a floater holiday. The combined weekly vacation and floater accrual for permanent and probationary employees includes pro-rated floater holiday hours in addition to their weekly accrued vacation hours. After six (6) months of continuous employment, temporary employees shall be granted a floater holiday of eight (8) hours per year. When November 11 falls Monday to Friday, it shall be regarded as a normal work day and the Corporation operations shall be maintained as usual.

Floater. It is understood that this classification is not to be construed or used to avoid hiring of a permanent employee where one is needed, but rather to allow the Employer to have the flexibility within the staff to handle special projects, seasonal fluctuations of work volume, vacations, sick leave, leave of absence, and unexpected emergencies. The “Floater” will be entitled to be paid at the highest wage rate for the classification for which the work is being performed, but in no case less than the wage and benefits of the employee “Floating”.
