LEAVE SICK LEAVE. 1. Each teacher will be granted 10 sick leave days per year. Each teacher shall be allowed to accumulate a total of seventy (72) sick leave days.
2. Sick leave is defined as days of absence from duty because of personal or immediate family illness, maternity leave, injury or death for which no deduction is made in regular monthly or annual compensation of the employee. The term days as used herein is defined as days on which the employee drawing sick leave would normally have reported for duty. Immediate family is defined as anyone living in the same household, spouse, children, parents, in-laws and siblings.
3. Any employee absent may be requested to present documentation at any time to justify their absence and/or their return to the workplace.
4. At the beginning of each school year, the annual amount of sick leave (up to 10 days) and any prior year personal days directed to be converted to sick leave (up to 4 days) shall be added to the employee’s end-of-year accumulated sick leave days (not to exceed 72 days).
LEAVE SICK LEAVE. Sick leave shall be as per the Parent Award except that to qualify for paid sick leave, an employee must:
i) Advise the Company before the normal work commencement time of his/her inability to attend for duty and the nature of the illness or injury and the estimated duration of the absence; and
ii) on or before his/her return to work may be asked for a certificate from a qualified medical practitioner that, in the practitioner’s opinion, the employee was unable to attend for duty due to personal illness or injury, and the period of the inability to attend for duty.

LEAVE SICK LEAVE. Section 1:. Employees shall be allowed up to ten (10), or in the case of regular twelve months appointments, twelve (12) sick days per year, accumulative to a maximum of one hundred and eighty (180) days. Employees may use four (4) sick days per year as personal leave. Personal days are not cumulative from year to year.
LEAVE SICK LEAVE. A. All employees covered under this Agreement are entitled to one working day for every month of service during the 1st calendar year of employment and fifteen working days for every year thereafter, with unlimited accumulation.
B. Any employee who shall be absent on sick leave for three or more consecutive working days shall be required to submit acceptable medical evidence substantiating the illness in the manner as provided in Civil Service Rule 4:1-17.
C. Immediately prior to qualified retirement, the employee may use up to one hundred fifty days of accumulated sick leave toward retirement. Any additional sick time accumulated beyond the one hundred fifty days shall be paid, upon retirement, at one-half day's pay for each accumulated sick day.
D. If any employee is absent from work for reasons that would entitle him to sick leave, the Chief or designated representative is to be notified as early as possible, but no later than two hours before the start of shift from which absent.
LEAVE SICK LEAVE. Every full-time Administrator shall be entitled to twenty (20) days Sick Leave commencing August 1st in each school year. Administrators who work on a less than full time basis shall receive a pro-rated amount of Sick Leave. Every Administrator shall accumulate Sick Leave to a total of one hundred and ninety-five (195) days in addition to the 20 days’ entitlement commencing August 1st in each school year. For greater certainty, the maximum number of sick days claimed shall be two hundred and thirty-five (235) days. Accumulated ▇▇▇▇ Leave shall not begin to be used until the current year's Sick Leave granted twenty (20) days Sick Leave commencing August 1st in each school year) has been expended. Accumulated days used shall be deducted from the accumulated total. Where an Administrator is employed by the Tri-Country Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE), the TCRCE shall credit the Administrator with any accumulated Sick Leave as credited with the immediate preceding education entity, up to a maximum of one hundred and ninety-five (195) days. The Administrator shall not be permitted to use any of the days so credited within the first year of employment with the Centre. Any Administrator on a permanent/probationary contract and who has been employed by the TCRCE for at least two (2) years and in a given school year has exhausted all his/her current annual and accumulated Sick Leave and is ill may receive an advance on Sick Leave from the next year's annual entitlement up to a maximum of ten (10) days. A female Administrator shall be permitted to use up to fifty (50) days Sick Leave, if available, for Leave of Absence for pregnancy. The provisions of this clause shall be inoperative during the period of time that the Administrator is receiving EI benefits. An Administrator on an unpaid Leave of Absence shall be considered to have continuous service but sick days shall not accumulate and cannot be claimed during the Leave. An Administrator under active treatment in a certified detoxification program or in the Alcoholism and Drug Rehabilitation Program shall be considered ill. It is recognized that Sick Leave is claimable for necessary medical and dental treatment of an Administrator. However, it is expected that, whenever possible, all such appointments shall be made outside of school hours. LEAVE SICK LEAVE. At the beginning of each school year the employee shall be credited with twelve (12) days of sick leave of which the unused portion shall accumulate from year to year for a maximum of ninety (90) days. A total of ninety (90) days may be carried over to the new school year. At that time, twelve (12) days more will be credited to the total sick leave days. All one hundred and two (102) days will then be available. • Sick leave may be taken in hourly increments. • Paid sick leave may be used for the following situations: ü Mental or physical illness of the teacher, which prevents the teacher from fulfilling duties. ü Illness of a member of the teacher’s immediate family. ü Death of a member of the teacher’s immediate family. ü Health and Wellness appointments for the teacher and immediate family. ü Leave for death of persons other than the immediate family shall be allowed with the principal’s approval. Ø Immediate family is mother, father, spouse, brothers, sisters, children, grandparents, and grandchildren of the teacher or teacher’s spouse. • Leave for legal or financial obligations related to the probate of an estate or elder care shall be allowed with the superintendent’s approval. • After the teacher has exhausted accumulated leave, if the teacher is still unable to complete contractual duties due to illness, then the teacher shall be paid the daily salary rate less the substitute teacher’s pay, until such time as the contract ends or the teacher returns to work. • Accounting of available sick leave will be printed on monthly pay stubs.
LEAVE SICK LEAVE. Sick leave means the period of time an employee is absent from work by virtue of being sick or disabled, or because of an accident for which compensation is not payable under the Worker’s Compensation Act. Paid sick leave is intended to provide income protection for an employee’s regular earnings. Employees will not receive any payout of sick leave entitlement unless they are sick. Regular employees shall be covered for up to sixty (60)days of short term disability at one hundred percent (100%)of regular earnings upon presentation of satisfactory proof of sickness as detailed in Article Term employees shall accrue days”of sick leave per month. Collective Agreement University of Northern British Columbia July I, -March REPORTING OF SICK LEAVE Except where extenuating circumstances prevent immediate notification, employees shall report, to their supervisor, absence due to sickness or disability prior to the scheduled start of their shift. Failure to do so may be caused for denial of sick leave. Upon return to work the employee shall be required to complete the University’s sick leave reporting form. PROOF OF SICKNESS For any absence due to sickness or disability in excess of five (5) consecutive working days, the employee shall be required to provide medical proof of sickness satisfactory to the University. Failure to do so will result in the absence being treated as leave without pay. The University reserves the right where there has been a pattern or high usage of sick leave to request satisfactory proof of sickness for periods of less than three (3) consecutive days. The University also reserves the right to refer the employee to a physician satisfactory to the University and acceptable to the employee. The costs of the shall be born by the University.
