Use of Sick Time. Sick time is for use when an employee cannot work due to an illness, injury, medical or dental appointment of the employee or their family. Except in cases of emergencies, medical and dental appointments should be scheduled in advance so as to create the least possible conflict with staffing requirements. The employee will give the Employer at least twenty-four (24) hour advance notice of such appointments, except in an emergency.
Use of Sick Time. Sick time may be used only for personal illness except as described in a) and b) below.
Use of Sick Time. After the first 30 calendar days on compensation, an amount equal to the difference paid by the City between an employee’s worker’s compensation and his regular salary shall be deducted from the employee’s accumulated sick leave. When the amount of the employee’s accumulated sick leave has been depleted, the City will no longer pay the difference between worker’s compensation and the employee’s salary. An employee will continue to accrue and receive benefits for the first 30 calendar days while on compensation. When this period has elapsed, he shall be deemed to be on inactive status and will not be eligible to accrue or receive benefits other than those stipulated in this section.
Use of Sick Time. In each program, the Supervisor and staff will discuss the protocol of calling in sick and work together to put in place a plan to handle unexpected illness during the night. (ex. identify staff who would be willing/able to come in early; supply staff to be called). The employee will be expected to call their Supervisor between the hours of 6am and 9pm. The ill employee will call their Supervisor or their designate, who will find a replacement and contact the centre to advise. The employee will make every effort to give as much time as possible to find a replacement, with the expectation that employees will endeavour to provide two (2) hours’ notice. Employees will attempt to schedule routine medical appointments outside of regular working hours.
Use of Sick Time. Sick time can be used by eligible employees when they are ill, need to care for an ill family member, and for medical appointments. Employees who work at least 30 days in a year are eligible to receive paid sick leave. Employee can begin using accrued sick leave once they have worked for 120 days. Employees shall notify the employer of nonemergency medical appointments at least one (1) week in advance of the medical appointment if the appointment falls within the employee's regularly scheduled hours. Employees who intend to take sick time for an unplanned absence must notify their supervisor by phone, text or email at least one hour before the start of their work day. Employees that are unable to provide notice of their absence because of exigent circumstances per- taining to the illness or medical emergency may be excused from the above no- xxxx requirement. Employees who are out ill for three (3) consecutive days will need a doctor’s note to verify the illness and authorize that they are fit to return to work. Employees are limited in their use of sick leave to 48 hours (or six days) per year. Employees shall take sick leave in at least one (1) hour increments. Employees may take sick leave for their own health condition or the health condition of a family member, including preventative treatment. “Family member” is defined broadly and includes a spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, step- child, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, and xxxxxxx. Bargaining unit member employees may elect to invoke their right to a leave if they are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, for purposes of treatment for alcohol or drug dependency. Employee leave that is otherwise defined by state or federal law shall not be affected by the terms of this Agreement. Employees shall not receive a pay out of accrued sick leave when their employment ends. However, if an employee leaves and is rehired within one year, accrued sick leave will be reinstated.
Use of Sick Time a) Sick time may be used only for personal illness except as described in b) and c) below.
b) A maximum of five days of the twelve sick days per anniversary year may be used for personal business or family illness except after notice of termination has been filed. Prior approval by the department head or his/her designee is required for leave for personal business. Employees must report to the department head or his/her designee as soon as possible for leave for family illness. Personal days will not accumulate from year to year.
c) A maximum of two of the twelve sick days per anniversary year may be used to extend bereavement time when taken in conjunction with Bereavement - Section 15 of this contract.
Use of Sick Time. All employees shall be credited fifteen (15) working days of sick leave per year. All employees who are off due to sickness more than seven (7) days shall present a doctor's certificate to their department head upon their return to work at the request of the department head. If the employee presents a doctor's certificate for any of the first seven (7) days, those days that are certified will not be counted in the computation.
Use of Sick Time. If a retiree has accrued “sick time” balance and wishes to continue health insurance coverage they may do so. Sick time, up to 960 hours or 120 days, will be exchanged for months of continued health insurance coverage (individual or family) until the sick time is depleted. For each month of provided retiree health coverage the sick bank at retirement will be reduced by 16 hours until the sick bank is depleted. Once the sick bank is depleted the retiree may continue coverage under the applicable Premium Percentage. Premiums are due by the 20th of the month preceding the coverage month. The Commission reserves the right to cancel any retiree’s insurance coverage for accounts 60 days or more past due.
Use of Sick Time. A. An Employee may utilize sick leave allowance for absences:
1. Due to personal illness or physical incapacity.
2. Due to exposure to contagious disease in which the health of others would be endangered by the Employee‟s attendance on duty.
3. Due to the illness of a member of the immediate family who requires the Employee‟s personal care and attention. The term “immediate family” as used in this section shall mean parents, grandparents, children, brothers, or sisters of the Employee or the Employee‟s husband or wife. It shall also include any members of the Employee‟s household.

USE OF SICK TIME - FAMILY ILLNESSES
A. Sick leave may also be charged in the case of illness in the employee's immediate family, including spouse, children and parents (biological parents or an individual who stands or stood in loco parentis to an employee when the employee was a child, not including parents-in-law). All employees, regardless of marital status, will be entitled to utilize sick time for family illnesses in the employee's immediate family as defined above. Under no circumstances will employees be entitled to utilize sick time for family illness unless it is for the legitimate purpose of providing care for that employee's spouse, children or parents in the case of their illness. The employee must notify the command officer in charge at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to the start of the shift when (s)he is unable to report to work because of family illness. Failure to report said absence from the first day of illness before the proper time shall be considered an unexcused absence and will be deducted from salary.
B. Validation of illness in the employee's immediate family will be necessary as determined by the following:
1. Seriousness of the illness reported
2. Length of illness period
3. Frequency of illnesses Any or all of the foregoing may be considered necessary to require proof of illness and/or sufficient reason before approval of sick pay benefits.
C. Not withstanding approved leave as permitted by the Family and Medical Leave Act, the length of time chargeable to sick leave due to illness in the employee's immediate family as permitted in Section 5.A, and validated in Section 5.B, shall not exceed four (4) days within a twelve month period, (March 1, to March 1, of each year) without prior approval of the Chief and submission of said approval to the city administration.
