Application and Selection Process. The Human Resources Department will receive all applications for job postings prior to forwarding them to the hiring Department. Qualified internal applicants will be interviewed first. However, after completing any interviews of internal applicants, the hiring Department retains the discretion to consider non-bargaining unit applicants in the selection process, along with the internal applicants who have already been interviewed, in order to identify the most qualified applicant.

The Committee can choose up to ten applicants from the submitted written/video (1-3 minutes long) applications to advance to the next phase for additional consideration. Those who advance will receive and must complete, to the BIA’s satisfaction, a series of three free mandatory business development workshops. Failure to attend the workshops will result in elimination from the competition. All other applicants will be informed of their elimination from the competition. The Top 10 semi-finalists can obtain further assistance with their business plan submission from other business assistance services during the competition, if they choose. Any/all additional services utilized will be at the candidate’s own expense and not reimbursed for by the organizers of this competition. However, mentoring will be provided at no expense to the Contestants by the BIA and its partners. The Top 10 semi-finalists must submit their business plans and supporting documents to the BIA bya deadline as communicated via website, email and/or other communication methods. (See the Appendix A for the Win This Space NF timeline and important dates) The Top 5 will be expected to present their pitches to the Committee and be asked to demonstrate via a business plan presentation on how the business will be displayed, marketed, etc. During this appearance, the finalists must be prepared to answer questions from the Committee and demonstrate product and business acumen as well as discuss financial planning for the purpose of sustaining a minimum one-year commitment to lease. The Winner will be announced at the Finale Event. The winning entry will be awarded the grand prize paid out by the BIA as monthly cheques directly to the landlord. If rent exceeds the $15,000 prize money, the BIA will pay the monthly lease until the funds run-out. If the rent does not require the full $15,000, the BIA will award only one-year of annual rent. In the event the Winner cannot make suitable leasing arrangements to set up their business within the timeline provided in Appendix A or violates rules and regulations, the prize may be awarded to an alternate winner as selected by the Committee to fulfill the role of the Winner. Full Partners must inform regularly the Coordinating Institution of the needs for Scholars they foresee for the following intake and produce job descriptions to document those needs. Positions for scholars must be published on the Programme website and relay largely by Full Partners networks. Call for Proposals is open for each Programme intake, and applicants are advised to contact the Administrational Coordinator by email for further instructions. The candidates meeting any of the profiles and specific requirements below may apply until the positions are filled, and before July 15th for guaranteeing a full consideration. Strong communication skills in English are necessary for all the positions. Master of Science is not needed in all the positions, but in such cases additional credits on top of BS degree may be required as a requirement to enroll in the applicable PhD program. Applications must contain: • A motivation letter (maximum 1 page per position applied) which should state why the applicant wishes to pursue the specific research and why s/he thinks s/he is an ideal candidate for the position. If more than one position is pursued, include a motivation letter per position. • A brief CV (typically 2 pages). If the applicant has developed previous work related to the position to which s/he is applying, an additional page may be included describing more in detail that work. • For verifying MSCA requirements, in the first page of the CV there must be a separate section with title “MSCA requirements fulfilment”, in which the candidates clearly indicate exact dates of (1) degree entitling to pursue a PhD, (2) positions and country of residence in the last 5 years. • Up to 3 recommendation letters and/or contact e-mail addresses with a brief professional description (title, position, relationship with applicant) of the referring person. • Copy of the title which allows to enroll in a PhD program in the country of employment (typically a Master of Science degree or Engineering degree). All applications submitted on or before the closing date (May 15, 2017) will be considered by the Panel of Judges. The Panel of Judges may choose up to 10 applicants as Finalists (the “Finalists”) for Phase Two. All applicants will be informed of their status in the competition, either as Finalists, or their removal from the competition. Finalists must refine their business concepts and submit a business plan, financial plan, and marketing plan to ‘Downtown North Bay’ DIA. Finalists must show a viable budget detailing the ability to generate any remaining income, which the lease payment of the selected space may require, over and above the Grand Prize. At this point, the Judges Panel will select the ‘Xxxxx 0’ who must then prepare a 3 to 5 minute presentation, to be presented live to the Panel of Judges, at the live Finale, the date of which is to be determined. The Finalists will be asked to explain their business concept, and should expect to answer questions from the Panel of Judges. ‘Downtown North Bay’ DIA is looking for strong business concepts, planning documents, and live presentations. To that end, Finalists are required to take advantage of business development workshops on Business Planning, Marketing, Market Research, Making an effective ‘Pitch’, as well as mentoring offered through the Regional Business Centre.
