Formal Training. A. Formal classroom training will generally consist of the following: 1. One (1) nine (9) week session for Modules 1 and 2 combined. The ninth (9th) week of Module 1 and 2 classroom training is at the discretion of the Program Coordinator and shall contain material not covered by written testing under this Agreement. 2. One (1) three (3) week session for Module 3. The third (3rd) week of Module 3 classroom training is at the discretion of the Program Coordinator and shall contain material not covered by written testing under this Agreement. 3. One (1) Three (3) week session for Module 4. 4. Two (2) two (2) week sessions for Modules 5 and 6. 5. Each session will normally be held in five (5) consecutive day periods. Each session is referred to as a “Module.” 6. During any formal classroom training, no vacation shall be granted. Vacation is intended to be used during formal field training or after completion of the Modules. B. Employees will obtain seniority in the Engineering Representative classification beginning the first day they are placed into the classification. Engineering Reps who are placed into the position prior to the first day of modules will remain at Step 1 until such time as the Training Program starts and the employee progresses through the modules outlined in the Program. Prior to the start of the Training Program the on- the-job-training will primarily be in the office. Once the Training Program starts the employee(s) will proceed through the training and modules the same as all other Engineering Representatives in the Program. C. The formal training will normally be held in Decatur and the employer will provide accommodations with all necessarily incurred expenses covered. Travel to and from the formal training sessions will be paid at the appropriate wage rate. D. Engineering Department employees (Engineering Representatives, Senior Engineering Representatives) will be given the opportunity to participate in the Program’s development and as trainers in the formal classroom Modules, as well as providing guidance and assistance to the Engineering Representative Trainees in their on-the-job training. E. Module 1 and 2 testing shall consist of two (2) three (3) hour in duration tests, each of which will be worth 100 percentage points. These tests shall be given during the third week of electric instruction and the third week of gas instruction. Formal TrainingThe Employer is committed to provide such formal training to employees as is required to remain abreast of all new developments pertaining to the trades and jobs covered by the Collective Agreement with a view to obtain maximized efficiency of operations and service. Formal training is to include any of the following:
Formal Training. The City has enacted an Ordinance calling for participation in the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act. (a) The City and the Union agree that it is in the best interest of the City for its employees to participate in training drills and courses. At times, training evolutions are designed to create live scenarios to better develop knowledge and skills for employees. (b) The City recognizes that such drills and courses are as dangerous to employees as a live incident. (c) Employees that are approved instructors by the City shall be qualified in the subject area. They shall be trained in all NFPA and OSHA standards that may apply for safe training. All courses shall be approved by the Safety Committee thirty days prior to the training date. If an acquired structure or practical course becomes available that would not allow for the 30-day lead review, the requirement may be waived with the approval of the course by both of the joint Labor/Management Safety Committee Co-Chairs. All live fire training will be in accordance with NFPA 1403. (d) Training given by MABAS Division 3 shall be approved by the Training Committee thirty days prior to the employee participation. The City shall not have other events or training that would require remaining companies to be on second- calls while employees are involved in a MABAS Joint Training Drill and a frontline suppression vehicle is taken out of service. (e) Front-line suppression vehicles shall be allowed out of service for training for no more than 4 hours and 30 minutes. (f) Employees who participate as a MABAS Division 3 instructor for approved MABAS Division 3 training or as a NIPSTA Instructor for other classes will be an independent contractor for NIPSTA and not covered under the City's Workers’ Compensation Program. However, the employee may request to use City equipment for the class with the approval of the Fire Chief or his designee.
Formal Training. Support staff members may request approval for undergraduate courses or training programs to improve his/her job skills and his/her current position in the District. All requests must be approved by the Superintendent or designee prior to the employee taking the course. Upon successful completion of such course or training program (receipt of a grade of "C" or better), the employee will be reimbursed tuition. Such stipends are to be non-sustained and in an amount equal to the actual cost for tuition and fees, not to exceed six (6) semester hours of approved course work completed during the preceding twelve (12) month period (September through August). Payment is to be provided in a single lump sum to returning staff members following certification of satisfactory completion of course work and a maximum not to exceed the lesser of actual costs for six (6) semester hours or $1,500 for the duration of this contract. Reimbursement for course work completed by August 31 will be reimbursed by the District no later than December 31. Such course work shall be approved based primarily upon the likely benefit of the course work to the application in his/her current position as a support staff employee of the Perry Schools.
Formal Training. (A) Employees undergoing employer-directed, instructor facilitated training will receive travel allowances in accordance with Rule 11 and will be provided transportation in cash or in kind. “Employer directed training” for the purpose of this rule shall be a written, employee specific travel and training authorization. (B) Employees residing within fifty (50) road miles of the training site will not be entitled to travel or transportation under this Rule. (C) Minimum Guarantee shall not apply, except for recurring training required by the Employer that exceeds thirty-five (35) hours of instruction per week at intervals of thirty-six (36) months or less. (D) Employees will be paid for actual training time. Regularly Assigned Employees will be paid at the straight-time rate of their bid job and all others will be paid at the rate of their last assignment. (E) Employees may be reimbursed for tuition for other than Employer-directed training.

Formal TrainingIn school training will be provided in the most suitable program(s). The Company reserves the right to ensure that the scheduled time for employees to be away does not overlap with other scheduled offsite apprenticeship training. If a trainee fails to make reasonable progress in the trade as evaluated by the committee, or to successfully complete each segment of the in school program, they will automatically be disqualified from continuing in the program or working in the trade. An employee can appeal the decision only once, throughout the apprenticeship training, to the committee prior to removal from the program. The employee will be immediately removed from the department and reassigned in the plant, while maintaining plant seniority.

An essential component of that training commitment will be skills enabling technicians to undertake work on new technology relevant to the field of activity. In addition to formal classroom training which will be run as frequently as business demands allow, employees may learn as fast as they like through self-study. This may mean sourcing materials from the Technical Trainer, taking the opportunity to learn from another employee or accessing external programs that are approved by CCA. National Recognition Where an employee completes an assessment, which forms a complete module in a National Training Package, a statement of attainment will be issued. CCA has a number of certificates which may be used to attain advanced standing in full trade certificates in related disciplines such as Refrigeration or Electrotechnology at other RTO’s such as TAFE. Formal Training. Recognizing that scheduling large formal training opportunities is difficult, AFSCME will seek to expand opportunities for smaller classroom training programs. AFSCME will provide all OITs with equal access to the larger formal training programs when offered to the extent that assignments permit.
