Layoff and Bumping. In the event it becomes necessary to reduce the number of employees in the Highway division, the probationary employees shall be the first to be laid off and then the employee with the least seniority. If a position is eliminated, the employee(s) affected by such action shall have the right to displace the least senior employee within his classification. If this is not possible, he shall have the right to displace the least senior employee within his classification. If this, too, is not possible, the affected employee shall displace the least senior employee, regardless of pay rate, provided he has enough seniority to do so, and further provided that the employee is able to demonstrate his ability to perform the work within a sixty (60) day probationary period in Groups I, IA, and II and thirty (30) days in Groups III and IV. The parties agree that employees in Group I may be displaced in a reduction in force only by employees with greater seniority who have previous training and experience as Mechanics. Employees laid off in a reduction of force shall have their seniority status continue for a period equal to their seniority at the time of layoff, but in no case shall this period be less than three (3) years. When vacancies occur in a division, while any employees hold layoff seniority status, then employees shall be given the first opportunity to be recalled and placed on these jobs. In the event an employee declines to return to work when recalled under this section, such employee shall forfeit all accumulated seniority rights.

Layoff and Bumping. (a) In case of a reduction in force, employees in a full- time/shared position will not be eligible to bump an employee in a full-time position, regardless of seniority.
Layoff and Bumping. (a) A permanent employee who is the junior employee in an area of instruction at a campus in which the Employer is reducing the number of positions or reducing the hours of work shall be given notice of layoff provided that the more senior employee who has been retained has the required qualifications, as assessed by the employer, to instruct in the courses or programs being maintained. Layoff and Bumping. Layoffs shall be done in reverse order of seniority by classification; that is, the general principle shall prevail that an employee with the least seniority in the affected classification shall be laid off first and an employee with the most seniority in the affected classification laid off last.

The principle of seniority shall be maintained in the reduction and restoration of the working force, provided that the senior Employee has the ability and is qualified to do the jobs available in the office. Employees transferred to a lower rated job because of a reduction of forces in a higher classification, shall be paid at the lower classification, starting with the beginning of the first pay period after such re-classification.

In the event of a permanent layoff, as defined in the Employment Standards Act, all employees to be laid off will be given at least sixty (60) days notice of lay-off. Laid off employees must exercise their bumping rights as soon as possible but in any event within ten (1 O) working days from the date they are notified of the layoff. Any other employees so bumped must exercise their bumping rights within ten (1O) working days of their being bumped, and so on, on a ten (1O) working day maximum basis for each involved employee. The employee will be provided with a current seniority list and any requested job and assistance from Human Resources, so that they can make appropriate bump choices, not normally to exceed five (5) choices. Appropriate bump choices shall be defined as positions for which the employee's resume demonstratesthe required education, experience, and skills required for the selected bump choices. The employee shall list all of their choices on the bump form and submitting a current resume and any other relevant information with their choices, by the end of the tenth ( day. Employees shall emphasize any education, experience and skills they have which relate to the duties and requirements of their bump choices.
