TEACHER ASSIGNMENT AND TRANSFER. Section 1: Teachers, other than newly appointed teachers, will be notified by the principal or department head of the grades and/or subjects that they will teach and of any special or unusual classes that they will have for the coming year as soon as practicable and under normal circumstances not later than the first week in June. Teachers who are assigned to a different school or classroom will be provided adequate moving services in a timely fashion.
Section 2: In order to assure that pupils are taught by teachers working within their areas of competence, teachers will not involuntarily be assigned, except temporarily and for good cause, outside the scope of their teaching certificates and/or their major or minor fields of study. Section 3: In making changes in grade assignments in the elementary schools and in subject assignments in the secondary schools, the convenience and wishes of the individual teacher will be considered to the extent that these do not conflict with the best interests of the school system and the pupils. Any applicant for a voluntary transfer who is not selected for the new position will be so notified in writing by the Superintendent or his designee. This notification will include the specific reasons for the denial of the application for transfer.
TEACHER ASSIGNMENT AND TRANSFER. 1. Teachers who desire to be transferred shall submit to the Superintendent a request in the form and manner prescribed by the Superintendent. The Superintendent shall make such forms available during the Spring.
A. The Superintendent shall notify certificated staff members of all professional openings that occur during the school term by posting bulletins at each teaching center as such openings become known. The bulletins shall include qualifications and duties for such available positions.
B. A bulletin of certificated staff openings will be posted as such openings become known. Applications by Teachers for such positions must be made in writing and received by the Superintendent not later than seven (7) calendar days after posting of such a list.
C. During the months of June, July, and August bulletins of certificated staff openings shall be posted only at the Administration Building and on the District’s website as they become available. Applications by Teachers for such positions must be made in writing and received by the Superintendent not later than seven (7) calendar days after such posting.
D. All open certificated positions filled during May, June, July and August shall be considered as permanent assignment and shall not be subject to further posting.
2. Applications for transfers shall be considered only for the school term commencing next after the receipt of such application. Transfers shall be made during the school term in which the application is received only when the Superintendent determines that such transfer would be for the benefit of the District. The Superintendent or designee, shall confer with Teachers who submit applications for transfer.
3. Teachers who are employed after the commencement of the school term are subject to reassignment at the close of the school term in which they were employed, and the BOARD shall so notify such Teachers at the time of their employment. Positions filled during the school term shall be advertised at the end of that term in the manner prescribed in Paragraph I above. Teachers who were employees of the District prior to and at the time of the employment of Teachers who filled positions after the commencement of the school term shall be given preference in the filling of positions for the next ensuing school term.

TEACHER ASSIGNMENT AND TRANSFER. A. Every effort shall be made to give all teachers written notice of their salary, schedules, class and/or subject assignment, and the building assignments for the forthcoming year not later than the last day of school for teachers.
B. In the event that changes in such schedules, class and/or subject assignments are proposed after July 1, any teacher affected shall be notified promptly.
C. Teachers who may be required to use their own automobiles in the performance of their duties and teachers who are assigned to more than one (1) school per day shall be reimbursed for all such travel at the current IRS rate.
D. Requests for building changes, length of workday and assignment in a different certification are submitted in writing to the Assistant Superintendent not later than April
TEACHER ASSIGNMENT AND TRANSFER. A. Assignment shall be made at the discretion of the Administration and shall normally be within the teacher’s area of competency, teaching certificate, or major field of study.
B. All teachers who are assigned to travel between two (2) or more buildings shall be compensated at the rate specified in the State of New Jersey OMB Circular or forty cents ($0.40) per mile, whichever is higher as permitted by the Administrative Code. Payment shall be made in two equal installments payable in November and April.
C. Travel time between schools will be defined as twenty (20) minutes. Teachers who travel twice in one day will not be assigned additional duties.
TEACHER ASSIGNMENT AND TRANSFER. 9.1 The professional staff shall be notified in writing of any changes in their programs and schedules for the ensuing school year, including the schools to which they will be assigned, the grades and/or subjects that they will teach, and any special or unusual classes or assignments that they will have as soon as practicable, provided that in the event of a change in circumstances or conditions during the months of May through August (e.g., resignation) such assignments may be changed as required to meet the situation.
9.2 In order to assure that pupils are taught by teachers working within their areas of competence, teachers shall not be assigned, except in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and good cause, to subjects and/or grades or other classes outside the scope of their teaching certificates and/or their major or minor fields of study.
9.3 Teachers who desire a change in grade and/or subject assignment or who desire to transfer to another building shall file a written statement of such desire with the Superintendent not later than March 15th. Such statement shall include the grade and/or subject to which the teacher desires to be assigned or the school or schools (in order of preference, if the teacher has a preference) to which she/he desires to be transferred. As soon as possible, the Office of the Superintendent shall distribute to each member of the professional staff the planned organization of the school system for the ensuing year.
9.4 All assignments and transfers shall be made in the best interests of the students after due consideration by the Superintendent of the system-wide needs. The wishes and preferences of individual professional staff members will be honored to the extent that these conditions do not conflict with the above.
9.5 An involuntary assignment or transfer shall be made only after a meeting between the teacher involved and the Superintendent or his/her designee, at which time the teacher shall be notified of the reasons for the assignment or transfer.
9.6 In arranging schedules for teachers who are assigned to more than one school, an effort will be made to limit the amount of inter-school travel. Such teachers will be notified of any changes in their schedule as soon as possible.
9.7 Teacher assignments and transfers shall be made without regard to age, sex, race, creed, color, religion, nationality, or marital status.
TEACHER ASSIGNMENT AND TRANSFER. A. Teacher Assignment
1. Each teacher will be notified in writing of her/ his program for the coming school year, including the school (s) to which he /she will be assigned and the grade (s) and subject (s) he/she will teach no later than June 1st of each school year. Written notice of the names of the students assigned to her/him shall be given to the teacher as soon as practicable and under normal circumstances by the close of the preceding school year. Nothing in the preceding sentence shall preclude reasonable reassignment of students when required in the judgment of the Superintendent.
2. No secondary teacher shall be required to teach at any one time more than three (3) different academic courses in more than two (2) different academic subject areas except in those cases where a teacher in at least his second year in Reading and with more than three (3) years of prior teaching experience in or outside the Reading School System is willing to carry more than the above and makes a mutual agreement with the administration for such an exception. Other exceptions to the above may be made by the administration in those areas with a limited student enrollment. In order to assure that students are taught by teachers working within their areas of competence, teachers shall not be assigned involuntarily outside the scope of their teaching certificates and/or their major or minor fields of study and/or reassignment of teachers could be disruptive to the educational process.
TEACHER ASSIGNMENT AND TRANSFER. A. Involuntary Transfers and Assignments
1. Notice of an involuntary transfer or reassignment will be given to teachers as soon as practical and under normal circumstances, no later than June 30.
2. a. The administrators will continue to exercise concern for both the educational needs of the District and teacher qualifications and preferences in making transfers and reassignments.
TEACHER ASSIGNMENT AND TRANSFER. A. Teachers shall be notified of their employment and salary status for the ensuing year no later than May 15. Ethically, the Association, when notified by a teacher, will inform the Board of Education of teachers not returning by May 15.
B. Teachers shall be given written notice of their tentative assignments not later than June 1.
C. As soon as possible, all teachers shall be notified of vacancies and vacancies will be posted in the central office plus the staff lounge. When school is not in session (i.e. summer break), teachers shall be notified by mail.
D. A reassignment or transfer of a teacher will take place only after a meeting between the teacher involved and the Chief School Administrator. At said meeting, the teacher will be notified of the reason(s) for a reassignment or transfer. The teacher may have an Association representative present if he/she elects to do so.
