Calendar/Work Year. 14.1 The calendar for the 2013-2014 school year is attached as Appendix “D”. 14.2 Each year, April 30th, the District will establish specific calendar proposals for the following school year. These options will be reviewed by Association representatives and their choice of options and all reasonable adjustments shall be submitted to the District for consideration. The calendar will be subject to final approval and adoption by the District’s Board of Trustees. Upon such approval and adoption, said calendar shall be attached and incorporated into this Agreement. 14.3 Faculty members will be required to provide a maximum of one hundred eighty- four (184) contracted work days, of which one (1) day will be a classroom work day, three (3) days will be professional development days, calendared by the district. 14.3.1 An employee may elect to receive one day dock in pay in lieu of attendance for one in-service day. 14.3.2 Faculty members new to the District will provide one (1) additional day of service without additional pay for the purpose of orientation. 14.4 The work year will be determined on an annual basis through the collective efforts of the Faculty Association, District and the Board of Trustees. If the Board desires to implement a change in the number of teacher “work” (preparation) days, excluding holidays, during the life of the current Agreement, the Board will provide the Association with prior notice of its intent and will afford the Association the opportunity to consult with it prior to a Board decision. In any event, the total number of contract days will not exceed 190 days.

The employee contracted days for the school year covered by this Agreement are set forth in the appendices. Calendar/Work Year. A. The employee contracted work year shall be 180 student days, one (1)mandatory district directed day plus any Professional Learning Days (PLD) provided by the legislature. The 1 district directed day will be paid at per diem rate and must be performed the workday prior to the first student day. B. If available, the district shall schedule PLD days on non-student attendance days and shall be reflected on the District calendar in whole or half-day increments. These days shall be used in approved activities related to collaboratively improving student learning and shall comply with the OSPI funding guidelines for use. C. Per diem shall be computed on 1/180 of each employee’s base salary schedule placement All employees shall have the option of working the following five (5) additional days at their individual per diem rate of pay with the following specifications: D. Optional day / hours worked Sept-July can be submitted by the 5th of the following month to be approved for payment. Payment will be in the following month in accordance with current practice. For example, September work hours submitted by Oct 5th will be included in October payroll. For August- all hours must be worked AND submitted by August 15th. The hours submitted in August (and turned in by August 15th) will be included in August payroll. August optional day hours worked after 8/15 will be drawn from the following fiscal year’s optional day allotment. They will be submitted by September 5th and will be included in September payroll. Essentially the use range is August 16 20xx - August 15 20yy which is a full year and aligns with the fiscal year.
Calendar/Work Year. A. The District shall use the State Salary Allocation Model (XXX) and the rules governing placement on the XXX in determining the salary placement of employees. B. The employee contracted work year shall be 180 student days plus one day prior to the start of the school year (181 days) plus any Learning Improvement Days provided by the legislature. C. In the event the state does not fund the Learning Improvement Days, the contract work year and per diem will revert back to one hundred eighty-one (181) days. E. All employees shall have the option of working the following four (4) optional days at their individual per diem rate of pay. 1. One (1) day before the first student day of the school year and one (1) day after the last student day of the school year to be used for inservice, professional development and/or individual or team teacher activities related to preparing, planning and ending for the school year. The day following the student year must be completed prior to the payroll cut-off date for June payroll. 2. Two

Before the end of April of each school year, a committee will be formed consisting of representatives from EVSD, EVEA, PSE, and parents to create calendar options that shall be taken back to their respective groups for input. From this input a calendar will be created to be submitted to the Superintendent/board for approval. B. The basic contract period for employees covered by this Agreement shall be one hundred eighty (180) days for continuing employees and one hundred eighty-one (181) days for newly hired employees. Newly hired employees will be paid for this extra day at each employee’s per diem rate of pay. These days may only be adjusted by state-funded Learning Improvement Days or other legislative action, and/or extra days bargained between the school District and EVEA. These days shall be computed on full per diem pay of the employee's placement on the salary schedule. D. There shall be two (2) early release days per year for students and staff on the days preceding Thanksgiving break and winter break. Employees shall be required to work no later than 12:40 pm on these early release days. E. Early dismissal shall occur for students on the last day of school. The last student day shall not exceed 3 hours for all schools in the East Valley School District F. Fifteen (15) hours will be allotted to certificated staff in their final year of teaching. To qualify you must have twenty-five (25) years of teaching experience and the last ten (10) years must be in the East Valley School District. These per diem days will be used during the last two (2) months of the employee’s final year of teaching to work with a replacement teacher, if known, or to assist with the new teacher’s transition. G. The Association shall be given up to one (1) hour time at the beginning of the work year to present the Association program at the orientation meeting for teachers
