Hour Shift Personnel. Twenty-four (24) hour shift personnel shall report to their assigned duty station at the beginning of the shift unless the subpoena requires the employee’s attendance in court at a time near the beginning of the shift. In such cases, the employee may be excused from reporting to his/her assigned duty station by the Department on a case-by-case basis.
Hour Shift Personnel. (1) If the jury duty occurs on the same day as the employee's scheduled duty assignment for the Fire Department, the employee will report same to their immediate superior and report directly to the assigned jury duty location. Upon release from jury duty for the day, the employee will report to their assigned duty station for the remainder of the shift.
(2) If the employee is required to report for jury duty on the day following their assigned Fire Department duty shift, they shall be released from duty ten (10) hours prior to the end of their assigned duty shift for the purpose of assuring rest and alertness in the performance of jury duty.
(3) When an employee is on jury duty for the entire day, is released from jury duty by the court after 4:30 p.m. and is scheduled to return to jury duty the following day, the employee shall not be required to report to their assigned duty station for the remainder of the shift. If, however, the employee is released by the court prior to 4:30 p.m. the employee shall report to their assigned duty station and shall thereafter be released from duty ten (10) hours prior to the end of their assigned duty shift for the purpose of assuring rest and alertness in the performance of jury duty on the following day.
Hour Shift Personnel. (a) If a shift employee is required to return to jury duty the following day, then they do not need to return to work. If the jury duty is complete, then they need to return to work. If the jury duty starts again on Monday after closing on Friday, then the employee needs to report to work on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday if their assigned shift is working any of those shifts. During the Sunday shift, the employee shall be released at 2000 hours, so they will be rested for the Monday morning jury duty assignment.
Hour Shift Personnel.
A. The compensation formula used to calculate rate of pay for Battalion Chiefs assigned to a 24-hour work shift schedule shall be that which is used for the majority of Fire Department 24-hour shift safety employees. This shall apply to regular scheduled hours and hours worked in excess of the regular scheduled hours. This provision will apply only to those employees who are assigned and work a 24-hour shift schedule.
B. The average work period for shift employees is 56 hours per week for the purpose of calculating compensation (without loss of current compensation). Unit employees assigned to work the 24-hour work shift schedule shall begin at 0700 hours and terminate work at 0700 hours the following day. The City shall maintain the 56-hour shift schedule as it relates to days on/days off.

17.4 COURT LEAVE - NON-DUTY RELATED
a. When an employee is absent from work to respond to a subpoena from a court of competent jurisdiction to serve as a witness in a matter in which the employee is not a party, the following release provisions shall apply.
b. The employee is to notify their supervisor of the subpoena on the next regularly scheduled shift after receipt of the subpoena and to contact the subpoenaing party to determine the date and time it is necessary to be present in court to testify. The employee will notify the supervisor of the time scheduled to testify and will be released as follows.
c. The employee shall return all witness fees and remuneration received, less transportation allowance, to the City.
d. Non-twenty-four (24) hour shift personnel will be released from duty at the time they are scheduled to appear to testify. If the employee is assigned to a swing or grave shift, release time shall be considered on a case-by-case basis. It is the intent of this Section to ensure the employee receives sufficient time to be properly rested in order to appear in court.

Hour Shift Personnel. Juvenile Hall and Jail:
10.6.1 The County has adopted a FLSA 7(k) fourteen (14) day work cycle.
10.6.2 Overtime shall be paid at premium rates for the time worked in excess of 84 hours per work cycle or twelve (12) hours per day.
10.6.3 Individuals shall be assigned, in general, to work four (4) twelve (12) hour shifts in one (1) week followed by three (3) shifts the following week. Shift times shall be designated by the Juvenile Hall Superintendent for Juvenile Institution Officers and by the Correctional Lieutenant for Correctional Officers.
10.6.4 Individuals working the twelve (12) hour schedule shall accrue time off at the current rate converted to hours. Time off shall be charged at actual hours; i.e. 12 hours per day.
10.6.5 Each employee assigned to shift work will be paid for the thirteen (13) holidays each year at a rate of five percent (5%) of their annual gross pay.
Hour Shift Personnel. All hours worked beyond the employee’s regular twenty-four (24) hour shift, or in excess of forty-eight (48) hours in a work week shall be compensated at one and one-half (1.5) times their regular rate of pay. The regular rate is defined as the hourly equivalent of all straight time compensation received by an employee for work. The FLSA formula is that an employee's regular rate is the total "straight time" compensation received by the employee "for work," divided by the number of hours that money is intended to compensate. Overtime shall be accrued in fifteen (15) minute increments rounded up.
Hour Shift Personnel.
a. Trade or overtime may create a thirty-six (36) hour obligation. Forty-eight (48) hour consecutive shifts will not be allowed. On-going assessment will be made of any shifts longer that twenty-four (24) hours to insure standards are maintained.
b. Power Shift Positions: Can be scheduled for 8, 10 or 12 hour periods. The Manager will provide at least a two (2) week notice of any change in the regular scheduled work period.
Hour Shift Personnel. Employees who are on the 24-hour shift shall be entitled to annual vacation periods with full pay on the following basis: Two weeks of vacation (5 shifts) shall be allowed for employees who have served the City continuously for one (1) years. 1 week (3 shifts) of said vacation will be available for use after the first 6 months of employment. Three weeks of vacation (7 shifts) shall be allowed for employees who have served the City continuously for five (5) years. Four weeks of vacation (10 shifts) shall be allowed for employees who have served the City continuously for twelve (12) years. Five (5) weeks vacation (13 shifts) shall be allowed for employees who have served the city continuously for twenty (20) years. The Fire Chief or his designee must authorize the time at which any employee may take their vacation. The appropriate “request for leave" forms shall be submitted to the Fire Chief or his designee at least 15 days prior to the requested leave date. Vacation days are not accruable, but up to three shifts of vacation may be carried over for use within the next year. Under no circumstances will more than two (2) weeks vacation be taken at one time unless approved by the city. Employees on approved vacation leave cannot have their leave canceled, except under extreme emergencies. When "request for leave" forms are submitted to the Fire Chief or his designee, they shall be returned to the affected employee within six (6) calendar days.
