TEACHING HOURS AND CLASSLOAD. A. A teacher’s workday, including an uninterrupted lunch period, shall consist of seven (7) clock hours. An uninterrupted lunch period will consist of no less than thirty minutes. A teacher shall report to his/her teaching station and/or its adjacent hall area not later than five (5) minutes before the beginning of the school day. B. Elementary teachers shall have a weekly preparation time of 250 minutes. During the daily preparation time for teachers, special instruction for students shall be provided. Secondary teachers will have five (5) class periods of teaching time and one (1) period of preparation time each day. Starting in the 2000-2001 school year, the daily teacher- student contact time shall not exceed 5 hours and 20 minutes, unless mutually agreed or otherwise negotiated in the school calendar. C. Special teachers (art. music, physical education, etc.) will be scheduled so that their assignment most nearly approximates the load of a regular classroom teacher. To facilitate this provision, due consideration will be given to: (1) facilities, (2) preparation of subject, (3) transportation of supplies and materials, (4) number of students, and (5) transportation between buildings. D. If the State requirements for minimum days and hours of pupil instruction change during the life of this Agreement, representatives of the Association and the Board shall meet for the purpose of bargaining the school calendar and hours of instruction. It is the intent of the parties that no additional days or hours of instruction will be scheduled other than the minimum required by the State. E. Newly employed first year teachers shall be assigned the lowest class size of their teaching levels. The District will attempt to minimize the number of daily preparation a secondary teacher is assigned when developing the master schedule. In the event that more than four (4) daily preparation periods are assigned, the District will meet with REA leadership to review and discuss the master schedule in an effort to reduce the number of daily preparations. F. Teachers are encouraged to attend extra-curricular activities and are expected to participate in other school related functions within reason. G. If by mutual consent of the parties, a district-wide program of in-service teacher education is instituted, an Ad Hoc Committee of six (6) members, three (3) appointed by the Association and three (3) appointed by the Board, shall conduct a study of such program. TEACHING HOURS AND CLASSLOAD. A. The teaching hours for teachers in the 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024 school year(s), the school day will be from 8:05 to 2:57 for all teachers. B. No teacher shall be required to report for duty earlier than ten (10) minutes before the opening of the pupils' regular school day in the morning. Teachers shall be permitted to leave fifteen (15) minutes after the pupils. Teachers are encouraged to remain for a sufficient period after the close of the pupils' school day to attend to those matters which properly require attention at times, including consultations with the parents when scheduled directly with the teacher, except on Fridays and days preceding holidays when the teacher may leave five (5) minutes after buses have left the parking lot. C. A normal weekly teaching load in the junior and senior high shall be thirty (30) teaching periods and five (5) unassigned preparation periods. D. All teachers will receive at least 50 minutes of preparation per day or 250 minutes per week during normal school day. E. Repeated tardiness by a teacher shall be considered due cause under the tenure law for disciplinary action and/or termination. F. 1. In the event schools are closed due to Acts of God or mechanical failure, teachers shall not be required to report to work. The administration will use radio and television announcements to notify the staff by 7:00 a.m. Such plans may include a delay in the start of school of up to two (2) hours.
TEACHING HOURS AND CLASSLOAD. A. Al teachers shal be entitled to a duty-free, uninterrupted lunch period of thirty (30) minutes. B. Elementary teachers shal be entitled to a mid-day duty-free, uninterrupted lunch of at least thirty-eight 38 minutes. The elementary instructional day shal begin five (5) minutes prior to the secondary instructional day and end five (5) minutes after the conclusion of the secondary instructional day. Any changes to the lunch duration wil be agreed to before implementation. C. Al teachers wil report to school at least thirty (30) minutes before the start of the first hour class and leave fifteen (15) minutes after the conclusion of last hour. Teachers wil be in their respective rooms and on duty before classes begin. The number of days of school and the normal work day for al teachers shal be consistent with state requirements for pupil instruction time. Teachers wil be notified of their teaching days/hours prior to the beginning of the school year. D. The normal daily teaching load in the middle and high school (grades 7-12) wil be no more than six 48 minute periods out of seven instructional periods. One of the seven periods shal be assigned for preparation time. Schedules wil be developed in a manner that is compliant with Board Policy on Assignment and Transfer. E. The normal daily teaching load in the elementary school wil be consistent with state requirements for pupil instruction time necessary to obtain state aid funding. Lower and upper elementary recess duty may be assigned to one teacher on a rotation basis. F. Specialized instruction (“Specials”) from another certified employee or recess periods supervised by another staff member, starting with the dismissal of their students, shal be considered for conference/preparation time. Each elementary teacher shal be entitled to the “average of forty-eight (48) minutes preparation time per day. Each elementary teacher wil be assigned a special each day. G. Part-time teachers shal receive pro-rata conference/preparation periods. Part-time teachers shal receive a calendar of workdays including in-service, conference and record days at the beginning of the school year. H. Part-time teaching staff wil be expected to attend al events attended by ful-time teachers. If an event for which ful-time teachers are compensated for attendance is scheduled for a date not on the part-time teacher’s calendar, the part-time teacher shal receive payment for attendance time based on the percentage of that part-time teacher...

  • TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD Section 1 Work Day For the applicable agreement period, the normal work day will be seven and one-quarter (7 ¼) hours including arrival time fifteen (15) minutes before and departure time (15) minutes after the students’ school day. The normal work day will include uninterrupted prep time. The Building Principal, as authorized by the Superintendent, upon request of a teacher or group of teachers, may waive the requirement to remain fifteen (15) minutes after the school day for a specific day or days. It is recognized; however, that the proper performance of their duties may, on occasion, require these persons to work longer than the normal work day, i.e. for conferences, faculty meetings, department meetings, etc. Therefore, “mandatory meetings will occur two times per month and be no longer than 90 minutes in length, inclusive of the additional 15 minutes beyond the scheduled student school day. A schedule of the meetings will be distributed by June 30th of the previous school year, but may be changed at the discretion of the Principal with 48 hours’ notice.” Teachers will also remain at school after the fifteen (15) minutes described above, during one (1) day each calendar week for such periods of time as is necessary to provide students extra help, and/or to meet with parents or guardians, concerning the progress of their children or wards. No teacher shall be required to work more than a normal seven and one- quarter (7 ¼) hour day, including fifteen (15) minutes before and (15) minutes after the students’ school day, which will include uninterrupted prep time; this provision does not apply to other contractually agreed upon time and meetings. Should state law require a longer instructional day, or more days, the teachers shall work the added time and the parties shall immediately commence impact bargaining on the issue. This article does not purport to cover the arrival and departure time of teachers involved in special assignments. Section 2 Other Personnel Personnel other than classroom teachers will work at their assigned tasks for the length of the regular teachers' work day. The exact daily schedule will be worked out on an individual basis between the Administration and the employee with notification to the Association. Instructional Coaches are required to work an additional five (5) days at their per diem rate, beyond the work year for a total of 189 days. These days will be determined prior to the start of the new school year and at the discretion of the Superintendent and the Chief Academic Officer.

  • TEACHING HOURS 1. A grade PPI-12 teacher's workday shall consist of not more than seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes of formal responsibility. Hall duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. The student day may be increased if necessary to meet the State time requirements for instructional hours. Within said time of formal responsibility, a teacher shall be entitled to the following: (a) A duty free lunch period no less than twenty-five (25) minutes to a maximum of thirty-five (35) minutes. (b) For a grade ECSE-5 grade teacher: a minimum of 250 minutes per week of time for preparation. Each preparation period to consist of a minimum of twenty-five (25) duty-free minutes. For a grade 6-12 teacher: a minimum of one preparation per day that shall be equivalent to a normal teaching period or an average of five normal teaching periods per week. (c) Cafeteria duty may be included in the teacher's workday. Every effort will be made to obtain volunteers for this duty, which will be in lieu of a class period. If no volunteer is available who can be scheduled, the administration may assign a teacher to such duties. No teacher may be involuntarily assigned these duties for more than one consecutive year. Every effort will be made mutually by the Administration and the Association to deal with these duties in a most positive manner. (d) Attendance at 6th grade camp shall be voluntary. 2. Before and/or after school, a grade ECSE-12 teacher shall be attending to his/her teaching duties in his/her building for up to thirty (30) minutes but not to exceed the workday of seven (7) hours and ten (10) minutes. At the beginning of each year, the administration at each level shall determine what portion of the above times will be used before and after school. Teacher input will be encouraged. It is expressly understood that an individual teacher's day may be adjusted to facilitate the administration of the individual building. Early leave may be granted at the discretion of the Administration. 3. The daily preparation period will first be used for such things as thorough preparations, conferences with parents, teachers, and administrators, I.E.P.T.'s, and special assistance to students. 4. Activities involving teachers beyond the scope of the formal teaching day shall be determined cooperatively between a faculty selected committee and the administration at that level. Teachers shall be given forty-eight (48) hour notice of such activities and shall be encouraged and expected by the Association to attend. Special teachers shall be encouraged to attend as their time and schedules allow. 5. In the event that it becomes necessary to determine a new building schedule, a committee will be formed, comprised of an equal number of administrators and teachers to examine alternative scheduling. A recommendation on the study will be presented to the superintendent. No recommendation will be made that would jeopardize accreditation. 6. A teacher’s building assignment shall be determined by where he/she is assigned for over half of his/her schedule. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have their workday schedule determined by the building administrators. A teacher who has a split building assignment will have a minimum of 30 minutes for travel. If the travel time encumbers the teacher’s preparation period or duty free lunch, or extends the teacher’s day beyond the contractual limits, then the teacher shall be paid for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes at the teacher’s per diem rate (unless this time is recouped through other minutes during the day).

  • Teaching Load 11-1 The parties recognize that the number of students, the number of preparations, and the amount of planning time are related to student performance. 11-2 CLASS SIZE 11-2-1 The parties recognize that class size is related to economics and that reduction of class size is faced with fiscal constraints. The parties further recognize that it is not feasible at this time to set general numerical limitations upon class size because of physical space available, special programs, special student needs, attendance area variances, differences in scheduling systems, busing, and because of other variable causes affecting class size. Nevertheless, the parties shall make reasonable effort to maintain class size at reasonable, workable, and educationally effective levels in all situations. 11-3 TEACHER LOAD 11-3-1 Teaching load shall be defined as the number of separate class preparations that a teacher has per school day as delineated in the course description guide.

  • WORKING HOURS AND OVERTIME 8.1 The normal working day shall be 8 consecutive hours exclusive of meal period. The normal work week shall be 40 hours. 8.1.1 The Company may, where required, institute 10-hour (exclusive of meal period)/4 day per week driver positions in accordance with Article 5.2. 8.2 Warehousepersons B shall be paid a minimum of 3 hours’ pay at the straight time rate, and if required to perform work beyond 3 hours shall be paid on the minute basis for work in excess of 3 hours. Such work will be offered in order of length of Company service. 8.3 The normal work week shall be Monday to Friday with rest days Sunday and Saturday; however, due to the operational requirements of the Company, a departure to rest days of Sunday and Monday or two consecutive days during the week may, to meet operational necessity, be instituted. Possible use of rest days other than Saturday, Sunday or Monday, where these may be required under this Agreement, to be explored by the parties. 8.4 All hours worked in excess of 8 hours in any one day, or 40 hours in any one week, shall be paid at one and one-half times the hourly rate of pay. This does not apply to positions as outlined in Article 8.1.1. 8.4.1 All hours worked in excess of 10 hours in any one day, or 40 hours in any one week, as specified in Article 8.1.1 shall be paid at one and one-half times the hourly rate of pay. 8.5 Employees, if required to work on regularly assigned rest days, shall be paid at the rate of time and one-half time on the actual minute basis with a minimum payment of 4 hours at the pro rata hourly rate. 8.6 Where work is required by the Company to be performed on a day which is not part of any assignment, it may be performed by an available extra or unassigned employee who will otherwise not have 40 hours of work that week. Overtime shall be allocated on the basis of seniority wherever possible, in a voluntary manner, within the work classification and shifts, provided the employee is capable of performing the duties; however, upon reaching the bottom of the seniority list in that classification and shift, the junior employee(s) will be required, in reverse order, to work the overtime. 8.7 Excluding Linehaul operations, employees shall not be required to take more than 60 minutes for a meal period and, if practical, 30-minute meal period will be utilized. Lunch hour for employees holding City Tractor or Driver Representative positions will commence between the end of the third hour of the shift and the end of the sixth hour of the shift. This clause only applies to employees holding bulletin positions. 8.8 All employees working in excess of three (3) hours will receive a fifteen (15) minute paid coffee break. A fifteen (15) minute coffee break without loss of pay will commence after approximately two hours of work, or at or about the mid-point of the first half after an employee reports for duty. A second fifteen (15) minute paid coffee break shall be after six hours of work where the tour of duty is in excess of six hours. There will be a third paid15 minute break if 3 hours of overtime are completed. This break is to be taken after the second hour of overtime has been completed. These breaks shall not be cumulative. 8.9 Employees shall be allowed to elect to bank overtime in lieu of pay to maximum of 40 hours at the rate of one and one-half hours banked for every one hour worked. Overtime worked will automatically be used to replenish the bank to the maximum of 40 hours during the course of the year. Any balance of banked overtime unused will be carried over to the next year unless the employee gives notice to withdraw from the program or requests to be paid out any unused portion as indicated in 8.9.1. 8.9.1 A request to bank overtime must be made in writing and received by the Company by March 7th of the year. Banked overtime will continue unless the Company is notified by the employee he wishes to opt out of the program. Upon written request to the Company by March 7th of each year an employee shall be entitled to be paid for all unused banked hours accumulated for the previous year. The Company will issue payment by March 31st. Banked overtime accumulation will be discontinued effective the first pay period in November until the last pay period in December inclusive each year. During this period employees will be able to withdraw banked overtime already accumulated, however all overtime worked in this period will be paid as part of the regular pay process. Banked overtime shall be secondary to annual vacations. The Company officer in charge or their designate must approve all requests, in writing, for leave to be drawn on banked time. An employee will make their request in writing 7 working days prior to the requested time off. Laid off employees will be allowed to withdraw banked time on days when no work is made available to them. 8.9.2 An employee off duty due to bona fide illness who is not claiming Short Term Disability Benefits payments will be permitted to use accumulated Banked Overtime as of the second day of their absence. 8.9.3 An employee off duty due to bone fide illness who is eligible to receive Short Term Disability benefit payments will be permitted to use accumulated Banked Overtime to offset the three- day waiting period required by the STD plan. 8.9.4 When a request to use Banked Overtime is granted, it will not be withdrawn after approval unless otherwise agreed by the employee and the supervisor. 8.9.5 Banked Overtime may be used in the event of a shortage of work occurs and the Company asks for volunteers to take a day off. Should the employee wish to use an annual vacation day or Banked Overtime Day to compensate for the days lost earnings, their request will not be denied.

  • Flexible Working Hours The Employer will, where operational requirements and efficiency of the service permit, authorize experiments with flexible working hours if the Employer is satisfied that an adequate number of Employees have requested and wish to participate in such an experiment.

  • Normal Hours of Work 10A.01 The normal work day is defined as the twenty-four (24) hour period beginning at 12:00 Midnight. 10A.02 The employer has the option of working either five (5) eight (8) hour days or four (4) ten
