Absence for Personal Business a. Absence without pay may be authorized by the superintendent for purposes which he considers urgent and which shall be deducted from the employee's salary in the amount of 1/183 or 1/184 of the base contract salary. The employee shall make application for such authorization at least ten (10) days in advance of the occurrence, or if advance application is not possible, not later than ten (10) days after the occurrence. Length of service, previous record of absence other than that for personal illness, and the purpose of the absence shall be factors in the decisions for such absence. The approval of the principal or the director involved will be required. Involuntary absence not heretofore provided for may be excused by the superintendent. The employee shall make application to the superintendent immediately for excuse for such absence and deductions shall be made in accordance with 1/183 or 1/184 of the contracted base salary, unless such deductions are specifically waived by the School Board on recommendation of the superintendent of schools. b. Principals are authorized to exercise impartial and justifiable judgment in releasing teachers for short periods of time during the school day. Such releases should be of a non-recurring nature. Unless approved by the superintendent, other absences than those herein provided for or failure to follow the foregoing regulations may be deemed to be neglect of duty or insubordination and may be sufficient grounds for dismissal.

Absence for Personal Business. Each bargaining unit member shall be entitled to two (2) days of personal business leave per school year. Such personal business leave days may be accumulated to a maximum of three (3) days total. Such personal business leave days shall be deducted from the allowable days of current sick leave granted to a bargaining unit member each year pursuant to Section 11.1 Personal business leave shall be in full working day increments only. No leave will be granted for personal business leave during the back to school institute week or during the final week of the school year.

Absence for Personal Business. 19.4.1. A personal leave of up to an accumulated maximum of ten (10) days may be scheduled by prior notification to the principal, except on teacher/staff development and parent/teacher conference days where personal leave may be used only with principal approval. Personal leave is accumulated at the rate of three (3) days per year in the educator’s first five (5) years of service in the District, four (4) days per year in the Educator’s sixth (6th) through fourteenth (14th) years of service in the District, and five (5) days per year in the Educator’s fifteenth (15th) year of service until termination or retirement from the District. 19.4.2. Although leave balances are defined in days, they will be stored as hours in the District’s payroll system. If the educator’s FTE changes, available leave will be calculated by dividing the current leave balance by the number of current hours per day according to the current FTE. The number will be multiplied by the future hours per day based on the future FTE to determine the future leave balance. This calculation will take place prior to the granting of new leave. 19.4.3. When special circumstances merit, additional personal leave may be granted upon written application to the Superintendent. 19.4.4. The District will make special extensions of personal leave available to educators who are on approved education-related boards. Total personal leave for these individuals cannot exceed twenty (20) days including that described above and the District will not cover the cost of any of the leave. 19.4.5. Additional personal leave for maternity purposes of up to five (5) days may be granted upon written application to the Superintendent. 19.4.6. The Association President and his/her Vice President designee(s) will receive ten (10) cumulative days of Association leave per school year to conduct Association business with the Superintendent’s approval. The business must provide a direct benefit to education within the District and cannot be used for political activity. The District will pay for the cost of the substitute for the first four (4) days and the Association will pay for the cost of the substitute for the last six (6) days.
Absence for Personal Business. Procedure for securing permission Teachers shall not absent themselves from duty for reasons of personal business without first securing permission from the Superintendent. All requests for such approval shall be made through the principal on the form prescribed. In the case of an emergency where approval cannot be secured in advance, the teacher shall report to the principal at the earliest opportunity.
Absence for Personal Business. If the Police Chief or his representative believes that it is justified, he has the authority to allow an employee a maximum of the equivalent of five (5) eight hour days or four (4) twelve hour days off a year with pay for personal reasons (such as personal business which can't be conducted outside working hours). He should avoid giving personal time off to any employee with less than one year's service. In no case should he give personal time to cover sickness.

Absence for Personal Business. Three (3) days absence without loss of salary will be allowed for personal business. Except in the case of emergency, at least 48 hours advance notice of the absence must be given to the school principal. While a teacher shall not be required to disclose the reason for absence, both parties agree that personal business, as used in this section, shall mean matters of a personal nature requiring urgent attention or involving important responsibilities or obligations which cannot be attended to when school is not in session. No teacher will be absent for personal business immediately preceding or following vacation or holiday periods unless the reason is stated for purposes of establishing compliance with the above stated criteria and approved by the Superintendent. In any case where the Superintendent suspects that personal leave is being abused, a teacher may be required to submit the reason for which personal leave is sought or has been taken. Any teacher who does not participate in the attendance incentive shall have his unused personal days accumulate as sick days subject to the maximum limitation on accumulation.

If, however, a circumstance requires the member’s absence on one or more of the foregoing days, the member may request use of personal business leave through the principal. The principal or supervisor may, at his/her discretion, approve the absence as a day of personal business leave. In normal circumstances a member shall not use more than three (3) consecutive personal business days at one time. Exceptions to the foregoing restrictions on days to be used for personal business leave may be made by the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for circumstances which require the member’s absence on these days.

The above is not an exhaustive list and items may be added during the school year by the consent of both parties. C. When there is a request for personal business day or days as indicated in Article XII, 7.B, the administrator may charge a portion of the personal business against sick leave with the remaining portion being assumed by the applicant with loss of pay. D. Personal business days cannot be used for time immediately before or after an established holiday for additional vacation. E. The administrator may, in unusual circumstances, grant personal business time to a person when the applicant's request is not specifically covered by the listing. The administrator, using his best judgment will take into consideration such items as length of service, attendance, involvement in school's activities and other factors which are pertinent to the case. F. Personal business days shall be requested at least one week in advance, except in cases of emergency. Approval must be received before the employee takes the time off. G. Requests shall be made through the Department of Maintenance and Custodial Operations.

(b) Where circumstances permit, an employee must endeavour to arrange leave to minimise the impact on operational needs. (c) The provision of appropriate documentary evidence. 1. For sick leave, a medical certificate or if not reasonably practicable to provide a medical certificate- a statutory declaration made by the employee. 2. For xxxxx's leave, a medical certificate in respect to the family or household member, or a statutory declaration by the employee. 3. For compassionate leave, any evidence that the employer reasonably requires. 7.3.5 The employee is not entitled to take more than 10 days of paid xxxxx’s leave (1/26th of the nominal hours worked by the employee) per year, regardless of the amount of personal leave the employee has accumulated over time. 7.3.6 An employee may request to cash out any amount of paid personal/xxxxx’s leave that they have accrued that is excess of 3/52 of the number of nominal hours worked over the past 12 months. For example, an employee working 38 hours per week over 12 months must retain 15 days of paid personal/carer’s leave and may cash out any further personal/carer’s leave that has been accumulated. 7.3.7 In addition to the above, a request to cash out personal/xxxxx’s leave will only be granted where: (a) the employee elects to cash out their leave in writing; and (b) the employer agrees. 7.3.8 Casual Employees engaged in continuous service shall be entitled to personal leave limited to the provision of sub clause 7.3.

  • Leave of Absence for Union Functions It is agreed that official representatives of the Union be granted leave of absence, without pay, to attend Union Conventions or perform any other function on behalf of the Union and its affiliations, provided not more than ten (10) Union representatives shall be away at any one time.
