Assignment of Extra Work. Assignment of extra work shall be distributed in a just and equitable manner among eligible bus drivers. A Union Work Assignment Committee will meet with management representatives on a regular basis to review the distribution of extra work, identify and resolve operational difficulties, and ensure that future assignments address any inequitable situations.

In cases of emergency and where no one is available that meets the above criteria, the Board may offer the assignment to a member who is not the most senior or qualified. Employees shall not be entitled to work extra hours if the hours conflict with the hours of their regular position or if the addition of the extra hours brings an employee’s hours over the regular work day for the position.
Assignment of Extra Work. Extra Work will be considered to include driving work other than transportation of students to and from their regular classes, and work replacing absent employees in non-driving functions, such as sweeping, bus washing or clean-up work. (a) A roster of all Part-time Drivers will be maintained for Extra Work which occurs during the school day. (b) Two other rosters of all Full-time and Part-time Drivers will be maintained, one for Sports Trips and a second for Overnight Trips. Trips are to be considered Sports Trips if the expected start time is before 6:30 a.m. or the expected completion time is after 6:30 p.m. Trips are to be considered Overnight Trips if the Driver must lodge away from the Quesnel area. (c) Extra Work will be first offered to the Driver who is next in line on the appropriate roster. Placement of the Driver's name on the stairwell blackboard during normal working hours or reasonable effort to contact the Driver's residence by phone outside of normal working hours will constitute an offer of Extra Work. (d) When an offer of Extra Work has been made to a Driver, the details of the assignment or "Pass" will be noted next to the Driver's name on the list, depending on whether the Driver accepts or declines the offer of Extra Work. The Driver then reverts to last place on the roster. (e) Drivers who are unavailable for extra work for any reason, other than conflicting mid-day runs, will be assigned a "Pass" on the appropriate roster. (f) When the Extra Work results from the need to replace a Driver who is absent, the Board reserves the right to break up the normal duties and assign the work to more than one Driver in an effort to minimize the payment of overtime. (g) The Board reserves the right to limit the assignment of Extra Work for Special Needs service to those Drivers who have been trained for Special Needs work. (h) The Board reserves the right to limit the assignment of Extra Work to specific Drivers, where such Extra Work is of a specialized nature which only certain Drivers have gained expertise in performing, such as the repair of seats. Drivers selected in this manner will receive the normal notation on the appropriate roster. The Board agrees to assist interested employees in becoming qualified for such jobs. There will a distinction made between extra work available in London versus Ingersoll. Each location will be administered separately for the purpose of determining DTMs who have made themselves available for extra work and the work required. Therefore, DTMs, who have made themselves available for extra work will only be called for extra work that originates out of their assigned domicile. • Extra work sign-up books are located at both the London and Ingersoll locations. Once assigned to extra work assignments, DTMs do not have the option of switching assignments should additional extra work become available. • Fleet Coordinators will attempt to contact the most senior DTM who has signed-up for extra assignments within the time slot during which coverage is required. Fleet Coordinators will utilize the primary contact number provided by the DTM. A minimum of five minutes will be allowed prior to attempting to contact the next most senior DTM. Documentation will be kept. • Fleet or Traffic using the same process and the same extra work sheet will cover any additional extra work that becomes available after the weekly schedules have been finalized. Assignment of Extra Work. When extra work is required as a result of employee absence(s), workload fluctuation, emergencies or any other reason, such extra work may be assigned to the regular hourly employees of the affected site by mutual agreement. When overtime and extra work is required and approved, it shall be equitably assigned among available, qualified employees at a site. Qualifications shall be determined by the District. This provision shall in no way limit the District’s right to utilize substitute employees or regular employees from other sites, as it deems appropriate. An extra work sign-up sheet for work at other sites will be distributed to employees twice a school year. Interested employees will return the completed form to Nutrition Services. However, such work will not be required (a) on an employee's regularly assigned day off, as long as there are other operators to perform the work; or (b) if it will result in the operator not having one (1) day off during the week. Such extra work will be paid at the employee's applicable rate of pay.
