c) not more than eight (8) consecutive working days, and whenever possible, seven (7) or less. 1207 Employees shall be given as many weekends off as is reasonably possible. The Employer shall endeavour to schedule employees to work not more than one weekend in every four. Dietetic Technicians / Dietetic Assistants / Respiratory Therapists The Employer shall schedule employees to work not more than one weekend in every two. 1208 Whenever reasonably possible, days off shall be granted consecutively. 1209 Unless given seven (7) days prior notice, a full-time employee who works on a day which she was not scheduled to work shall be paid the greater of double time or overtime rates. This Article will not apply to employees on Standby. 1210 Unless given seven (7) days prior notice, an employee whose shift is changed shall be paid at overtime rates for the first shift worked which varies from the posted schedule. 1211 If the Employer considers implementing a significant change to the normal work day, start and finish times, normal shift of work, normal work week, or normal rotation of shifts the Employer will attempt to obtain the agreement of a majority of affected employees at a meeting held to discuss and consider such changes. HOURS OF WORK AND SHIFT SCHEDULES. .01 The City maintains the right to provide its fire services on a continued twenty-four (24) hours, seven (7) days a week basis.
.02 Firefighters shall work shift work as scheduled by the City with a repeating fifty-six (56) day cycle that averages a forty-two (42) hour work week.
.03 Firefighters shall work an eight (8) day platoon shift schedule cycle (tour) consisting of: one 24 hour shift starting at 8 a.m., followed immediately by two (2) days off, followed by one 24 hour shift starting at 8 a.m., followed immediately by four (4) days off. Start times may be altered with mutual agreement between management and the Association.
.04 Notwithstanding .03 above, nothing in this Agreement prevents the Fire Chief, or his designate, upon fourteen (14) calendar day’s written notice to the Association, from changing a firefighter’s platoon assignment.
.05 With mutual agreement, firefighters can be reassigned to work another shift cycle or hours of work outside of the suppression unit. Where there is a bona fide occupational need, mutual agreement to the schedule change is not required.
.06 For the purposes of the Employment Standards Code, the Association agrees, on behalf of each of its members, that the 24 hour shift schedule set out in Article 8.03 provides benefits that are at least equal to those in the Code, such that overtime is not payable for hours worked during a regularly scheduled 24 hour shift.
.07 Non-suppression staff shall work a day shift schedule aligning with operational requirements in a 40 hour work week.
a) Option 1 5 consecutive days – 8 hour days – 40 hour work week
b) Option 2 4 consecutive days – 10 hour days – 40 hour work week Days may be altered for optimal coverage. Schedule may be altered with mutual agreement between management and the Association.

a) seven and a half (7 1/2) consecutive hours per day, between 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

(a) seven point seven five (7.75) consecutive hours per day (b) seventy-seven point five (77.5) hours per biweekly period 902 The standard hours of work shall be 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, unless otherwise agreed to between the Association and the Centre or modified in accordance with Article 904. 903 Employees will be provided with a one (1) hour lunch period forty-five (45) minutes to be paid for by the employer per work day which shall be scheduled at a time mutually convenient to the Centre and the employee. Two fifteen minute coffee/rest breaks, one in the forenoon and one in the afternoon, will be provided. 904 Should operational requirements necessitate a change to either the standard hours of work 8:45
a. m. effective to 4:30 p.m.), where either the starting or stopping time is shifted by greater than one-half hour, and/or the normal work week (Monday to Friday) the Executive Director shall provide the Association and the affected employees with ninety (90) calendar days written notice prior to the planned implementation date for said changes. The written notice shall provide details regarding the nature, extent and reasons for the proposed change(s) and the Association and the Centre shall enter into discussions, within fourteen (14) days of the receipt of the notice, regarding the methods of implementing the changes in an effort to minimize the impact on affected employees. Unless mutually agreed, no change to the work day or work week will be implemented until the notice period has expired.
