LEAVE OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. Where an employee with the Corporation, is absent by reason of a summons to serve as a juror, or of a subpoena as a witness, may at hisher option: take leave of absence without pay and retain both the fee and the expense allowance paid by the Court; or charge the absence against vacation credits and retain both the fee and expense allowance paid by the Court; or treat the absence as a leave with pay (but with no charge against any of hisher credits) but surrender the fee and expense allowance to the of Finance and Administration and City Treasurer when received. Notwithstanding the above, an employee who is subpoenaed as a witness at a grievance arbitration arising from the administration of this Collective Agreement shall receive normal base pay for the day of the hearing and shall not be required to attend at work on hisher normal for that day. A Department Head may grant leave of absence without pay in case of personal emergency. Two members of the Union shall be given time off, with pay, to attend funerals of City employees. In the case of a death in the immediate family of an employee, namely, spouse, child, mother, father, sister, brother, step-child, step-mother, step-father or legal xxxx or guardian, an employee shall be permitted be absent for (3) working days with pay; in the case of death of mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandmother, grandfather, grandchild, step-brother, step-sister to an employee shall be permitted to be absent (2) working days with pay, including the day of the funeral; for a relationship beyond that, such as uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, an employee shall be to be absent from work (1) day with pay for the purpose of attending the funeral and/or the memorial service of such relative. In the event of a bereavement of one of the relatives named above, the Director of Operations may increase the paid leave for up to two days for an employee to attend a funeral or memorial service beyond the Province of Ontario or in Ontario if additional travel time is deemed necessary and reasonable.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. 17.01 The Employer may grant or refuse a request for a leave of absence without pay for extenuating personal reasons, provided that he receives at least one month's notice in writing, unless impossible, and that such leave may be arranged without undue inconvenience to the normal operations of the Residence. Applicants when applying must indicate the date of departure and specify the date of return. If a leave of absence is granted, the Employee shall be advised in writing with a copy to the Union. The Employee will be responsible for one hundred percent (100%) of the payment for insured benefits, both Employer and Employee portions from the 1st month from the leave start date. The Employee must provide post dated cheques for the full amount for the duration of the leave. It is understood and agreed that when payments stop, the benefits will stop and the employee will be subject to any late sign-up restrictions pursuant to Carrier policies. It is further understood and agreed that this option to maintain benefits is only available for a maximum period of six (6) months from the date the leave starts. To qualify for leaves of absence as stipulated above the Employee must have completed six (6) months of employment with the Employer and it is expressly understood no benefit except as hereinafter provided shall accrue to or be paid to any Employee on a leave of absence. An employee on a leave of absence will not engage in other work without the permission of the Employer. An employee who violates this provision will forfeit all seniority rights and will be deemed terminated.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. 16.01 The Employer may grant leave of absence without pay or accruing benefits to an employee for personal reasons, providing advance notice in writing is received and that such leave may be arranged without undue inconvenience to the normal operations of the Villa. The request must indicate the date of departure and the date of return. Such request shall not be unreasonably denied.
16.02 When a seniority employee is required to service on a jury or is subpoenaed as a Crown Witness, she shall be relieved of her duties for such time as it may require. The employee is required to notify the Employer as soon as possible of selection for jury duty for court witness. She shall be paid the difference between her fee as a juror or witness and her normal earnings exclusive of premiums for the time lost, and the employee will deposit her jury/witness fee, less expenses paid by the courts, with the Villa. The employee will present proof of service and the amount of pay received. It is the employee's responsibility to come into work at any time during the week that she is not actually required for jury duty or to be present in Court.
(a) When a death occurs in the immediate family of an employee, the employee shall be granted leave up to a maximum of four

A request for General Leave of Absence for a period greater than five (5) weeks shall be provided in writing no less than thirty (30) calendar days prior to the requested time, unless the leave is for extenuating circumstances. The Agency shall act in a fair and reasonable manner when approving requests and shall not withhold requests without just cause. An employee on General Leave shall maintain the seniority held at the time of the leave but shall not accrue seniority while on leave. A request for leave of absence to obtain employment in a different area within the Agency will be deemed to be of sufficient cause. A request for a leave to obtain employment outside the Agency will not be deemed to be of sufficient cause. Benefits shall be maintained for employees on leave for thirty (30) calendar days or less. Employees on leave in excess of thirty (30) calendar days shall not accumulate vacation, holiday time or sick time and the employee shall be required to pay, in advance, the full premium cost of any of the current group benefits wishes to continue during the leave. weeks is entitled to a one year unpaid leave of absence. (17 weeks pregnancy leave weeks parental leave), in accordance with the Ontario Employment Standards Act. The employee is required to give the Agency two (2) weeks written notice prior to such leave. An employee on this leave shall accrue seniority. The Agency shall continue to pay for the benefits and the Agency's portion of the contribution as per the collective agreement, unless the employee advises the Agency, in writing, that does not wish to continue the employee contributions (if any) to these plans. An employee on this leave cannot be terminated, laid off, disciplined or suspended. Upon return from this leave, the employee will be reinstated in the same position, if it still exists, or a comparable position if it does not exist. The employee must be paid at a rate of pay when the leave commenced or, if higher, at the rate the employee would be earning if worked through the leave. A male employee shall be granted a maximum of five (5) working days without loss of salary or service credits upon the birth or adoption of his child. A female employee shall be granted a maximum of five (5) working days without loss of salary or service credits upon the adoption of her child.

Capital will provide Stella with up to four (4) weeks per year of paid leave time for the use of Stella for health purposes or for family purposes, if deemed necessary by Stella. Stella shall be afforded five (5) days bereavement leave in the event of the death of any member of his family.
