Short Term Sick Leave Plan. (a) Full-time employees will accumulate illness allowance on the basis of one and one-half (1½) working days with salary for each month of service or its equivalent to a maximum of one hundred and ten (110) days. (b) When the employee is absent due to illness, the sick leave credits referred to in 20.03 (a) shall continue to accrue on the following basis: i) one (1) to nine (9) days absence - full monthly credit ii) ten (10) to nineteen (19) days absence - half (½) of monthly credit iii) twenty (20) days and over, no monthly credits (c) Full salary shall be continued for an absence caused by sickness, accident or hospitalization, until the employee has exhausted his/her accumulated sick leave credits. Thereafter the employee shall receive seventy-five percent (75%) of full salary for the continued absence. Payment under this provision shall not exceed fifteen (15) weeks per occurrence. (d) For the period following the initial fifteen (15) weeks, an application for Employment Insurance benefits may be made by the employee. The duration of sick leave compensated by Employment Insurance benefits will be fifteen (15) weeks immediately following the first fifteen (15) weeks after which time an application for LTD benefits may be made.

Short Term Sick Leave Plan a) The employer agrees to contribute 100% of the cost of the Short Term Sick Leave Plan. Sick leave means the period of time an employee is absent from work by virtue of being sick or disabled, or under the examination or treatment of a physician, chiropractor or dentist, or because of an accident for which compensation is not payable under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. Xxxx leave entitlement for denied WSIB claims will not be paid until written confirmation is received from WSIB that the claim is denied and a medical certificate is supplied by the employee, at which time sick leave shall be paid from the first day of absence for the claim. b) The schedule of benefits payable under the Short Term Sick Leave Plan shall be interpreted to provide up to seventeen (17) weeks at 100% of an employee's regular earnings, annually, dependent on the employee's length of service. c) Full entitlement to sick days paid at 100% of regular earnings shall be restored each January 1st for employees at work contiguous to that date and upon the first date of return to work following January 1st for employees who are on sick leave. d) If an employee runs out of 100% weeks, there will always be up to seventeen (17) weeks of disability coverage at 75% of earnings, for every unrelated disability due to accident or sickness. A related disability would be considered an unrelated disability if an employee returns to work on a full time basis for at least twenty (20) days. e) For any illness or disability, the combination of 100% and 75% paid days shall always total seventeen (17) weeks of available paid sick leave. f) Benefits of the Short Term Sick Leave Plan as outlined below would commence on the 1st day of disability due to accident or sickness and would be payable for up to 17 weeks. Short Term Sick Leave Plan a) Short term Sick Leave shall be defined as the first ten (10) working days of any absence due to illness or non-occupational injury. b) Each Regular Fulltime and Regular Parttime employee shall be enrolled in the Short Term Sick Leave Plan effective the first day of the calendar month following the completion of one (1) month of continuous employment. c) The Short Term Sick Leave Plan will provide for benefits which will approximate regular take-home salary. d) Contributions to the Municipal Pension Fund will continue to be based on the employee's regular salary rate and all other normal employee benefit plans will be maintained by the Employer. e) In the event of an injury that may qualify for Workers' Compensation, the employee will be paid from the Short Term Sick Leave Plan pending a decision by the Workers' Compensation Board. If the injury is determined to be compensable by the Workers' Compensation Board, then the employee will pay back to the Short Term Sick Leave Plan monies equal to those funds received from the Short Term Sick Leave Plan once the employee begins to receive payment from the Workers' Compensation Board. f) The Union shall undertake responsibility for the Short Term Sick Leave Plan. The participating members of the Union shall contribute a percentage of their regular classified salary on a regular basis to be determined by the Union. The amount of such contributions shall be determined by the Union and the participating members shall contribute the full premium necessary to fund authorized Short Term Sick Leave absences.

(b) New employees will have the sick leave credited on a pro-rated basis in the year of hiring. (c) An employee’s manager may ask for a physician’s certificate at any time. The Company will reimburse for all physicians’ certificates/notes requested by the Company with appropriate receipt. Such requests shall not be unreasonably asked for. (d) Unused sick time cannot be redeemed for cash. (e) Employees may be permitted to carry over a maximum of 72 unused sick time hours to the next calendar year. Short Term Sick Leave Plan. (a) Short Term Sick Leave shall be defined as the first ten (10) days of each absence due to illness or non-occupational injury and shall not include an illness or accident resulting from an illness or accident on the job for which the employee is covered by Workers’ Compensation payments. (b) Regular Full-Time Employees, Regular Part-Time Employees and Temporary Full-Time Employees who are eligible for benefits shall be enrolled in the Short Term Sick Leave Plan and shall be eligible to receive the benefit effective the first day following the completion of three (3) calendar months of employment. Eligible Regular Part-Time Employees shall receive the prorated benefit (approximate net pay), based on the number of hours the employee was scheduled to work during the period of absence. (c) The Short Term Sick Leave Plan shall provide for a benefit of the first ten (10) days of any illness providing for the employee’s approximate net pay. The employees will fund the Short Term Sick Leave Plan. The amount of such contributions shall be based on a payroll deduction of a percentage of straight-time pay sufficient to fund authorized Short Term Sick Leave absences. (d) Contributions to the Municipal Pension Fund will continue to be based on the employee’s regular classified rate of pay. Benefit premiums shall continue to be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
