Sick Leave and Annual Leave. Sick leave and annual leave shall continue to accumulate during the period of the leave of absence. Monthly sick leave reports must be submitted to the Human Resources Department. Annual leave which has accrued while on CUPE President leave must be taken prior to returning to employment with the Board. Annual leave which has accrued while on CUPE President leave and not taken prior to returning to employment with the Board must be reimbursed to the employee by the Union. For a period of two years, upon return to employment, the Board shall place the employee in the position held prior to the leave if the position still exists and shall credit the employee with any annual leave accrued to the commencement of the leave. If the position doesn’t exist, the employee shall be placed in a comparable position. Vacation leave will be adjusted in accordance with the employee’s length of service upon return to employment.

Sick Leave and Annual Leave. Job sharing teachers shall retain sick leave and annual leave benefits accrued immediately prior to such assignment and shall be granted additional sick leave and annual leave on a pro rata basis.
Sick Leave and Annual Leave. 1. Employees shall notify the immediate supervisor or designee of an impending absence. The notification shall not require an explanation of the nature of the illness or injury unless there is a legitimate suspicion of abuse. 2. Unused sick leave will accumulate from year-to-year to a maximum of one hundred and twenty (120) days. 4. An employee may use accumulated sick leave to care for a member of his/her immediate family. 5. Patterns of sick leave usage such as the day before or the day after normal days off, holidays, and district in- service days may be considered an abuse of sick leave. A physician’s certificate may be required when an employee is absent for three (3) or more consecutive days or at any time if the supervisor believes the leave is being abused. 6. In case of absence due to illness, which exceeds ten (10) workdays, an employee may be asked to submit written notice to his/her immediate supervisor stating the probable date of return together with a verifying physician’s statement. Prior to returning, the employee must submit a release to duty by a physician. 7. Except for sick leave used as provided herein, accumulated sick leave shall not be reduced or lost by the employee during an officially approved leave of absence, while on temporary disability, or on RIF status. 8. Full - time Educational Assistants will be considered eligible for Family Medical Act Leave upon completion of one (1) year of service with the District. Full-time Education Assistants wishing to apply for leave under the FMLA shall follow District policy and procedures. 9. Sick Leave and Annual Leave. Where an employee with accrued sick leave credits is ill whilst absent on annual leave, the employee shall, provided that a certificate from a registered health practitioner is submitted for the period of illness, be placed on sick leave and no deduction will be made from annual leave credits for the day(s) in question. If it is not reasonably practicable for the employee to provide the University with a medical certificate from a registered health practitioner, the employee may provide a statutory declaration.

Sick Leave and Annual Leave b) An employee responsible for the care of a member of their immediate family shall be entitled to use their accrued Sick Leave entitlement to care for those members. c) For the purpose of this policy, immediate family is: * spouse; * de facto; (including same sex partner) * child; * parent; * grandparent; * grandchild; * sibling; and * any step-relation of the above kind. d) The entitlement to use Sick Leave is subject to the employee being responsible for the care of the person concerned. Full-time employees, 51% of the average number of hours for the particular classification, shall accumulate sick leave at one day per month, or an equivalent number of hours per month equal to the employee's normal workday.
