Duties of School Resource Officers. The SRO’s duties will include, but not be limited to, the following: A. To be an extension of the principal’s office for assignments consistent with this Agreement. B. To be a visible, active law enforcement figure on campus dealing with law enforcement matters and school code violations originating on the assigned campus. As to school code violations, the SRO will take the student to the principal’s office for discipline to be meted out by school officials. C. To act as the designee of the campus administrator in maintaining the physical plant of the assigned campus to provide a safe environment as to law enforcement matters and school code violations. This includes building(s), grounds, parking lot(s), lockers and other public school property. As to school code violations, the SRO will take the student to the principal’s office for discipline to be meted out by school officials. D. To provide a classroom resource for law education using approved materials. E. To be a resource for students which will enable them to be associated with a law enforcement figure and role model in the students’ environment. F. To be a resource for teachers, parents and students for conferences on an individual basis dealing with individual problems or questions, particularly in the area of substance control. G. To make appearances before site councils, parent groups, and other groups associated with the campus and as a speaker on a variety of requested topics, particularly drug and alcohol abuse. H. To document activities of all SROs on and off campus and as a compiler of a monthly report to be provided to the Police Department and to the principal of the assigned school. I. The SRO will be involved in school discipline, When it pertains to preventing a disruption that would, if ignored, place students, faculty and staff at risk of harm, the SRO will resolve the problem to preserve the school climate. As to school code violations, the SRO will take the student to the principal’s office for discipline to be meted out by school officials.

Duties of School Resource Officers. Instructional responsibility of the SROs at the School is as follows: a. The SROs shall act as an educator, counselor and police officer. b. The SROs shall act as an instructor for specialized, short-term programs at the School, when invited to do so by the principal or member of the faculty. c. The SROs shall make available to the School faculty and students a variety of law related presentations. d. The SROs shall coordinate all of his/her activities with the School principal and staff members concerned and will seek permission, advice and guidance prior to enacting any program within the School. e. The SROs shall develop expertise in presenting various subjects to the School students. Such subjects shall include basic understanding of the laws, the role of the police officer and the police mission. f. The SROs shall encourage individual and small group discussions with School students, based upon material presented in class to further establish rapport with the students. g. The SROs shall make himself/herself available for conference with School students, parents and faculty members in order to assist them with problems of law enforcement or crime prevention. h. The SROs shall become familiar with all School community agencies which offer assistance to youths and their families such as mental health clinics, drug treatment centers, etc. The SROs shall make referrals to such agencies when necessary, thereby acting as a resource person to the students, faculty and staff at the School. i. The SROs shall assist the School principal in developing plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations which may occur on the School campus or during School sponsored events. j. The SROs shall take law enforcement action as required by law. As soon as practicable, the SROs shall make the principal of the School aware of such action. At the principal’s request and upon final approval by the County Sheriff, the SROs shall take appropriate law enforcement action against intruders and unwanted guests who may appear at the School and related School functions, to the extent that the SROs may do so under the authority of the law. Whenever practicable, the SROs shall advise the School principal before requesting additional police assistance on the School campus. k. The SROs at the high school shall teach a part of the "Life Skills Drug Education Program" as a guest speaker. The principal or member of the faculty shall make the request of the SROs. The SROs shall not be asked to teach the Life Skills Drug Education Program on a full-time basis. c. The SROs shall make available to the high school faculty and students a variety of law related presentations. d. Any exceptions to the above must be mutually agreed upon by the Chief of North Port Police, the Superintendent of Schools, and the individual school principal. 2. Duties of School Resource Officers. SROs shall provide the following services pursuant to the terms of this Agreement. A. Protect lives and property for the residents and public-school students of the B. Enforce federal, state, and local criminal laws and ordinances within their jurisdiction, except: 1. SROs shall not enforce school administrative regulations or codes of conduct; 2. Infractions of school rules should be handled at the school level; 3. The SRO will coordinate with school administrators to differentiate between school disciplinary issues and criminal issues, and regarding student offenses that constitute a minor violation of the law and do not involve a real and immediate threat to persons or to the public safety such as public order offenses, including disorderly conduct, disturbance/disruption of schools or public assembly, trespass, loitering, or fighting that does not involve physical injury. After consultation, a determination will be made as to whether such matters will be best handled by the school administration or the SRO. D. Investigate criminal activity committed on or adjacent to school property; E. Counsel public school students in special situations, such as students suspected of engaging in criminal misconduct, when requested by the principal or the principal ‘s designee or by the parents of a student; F. Answer questions that students may have about Utah criminal or juvenile G. Assist other law enforcement officers with outside investigations concerning students attending the school(s) to which the SRO is assigned; H. Assist in providing security for special school events or functions at the request of the principal or the principal’s designee; I. Provide traffic control and enforcement at schools when considered necessary for the safety and protection of students and the general public; J. Notify the SRO’s immediate supervisor and the school principal or the principal’s designee when absent from work due to illness, training, vacation, or an agency emergency; K. Duties of School Resource Officers. 2.1 To prevent juvenile delinquency through close contact with students and school personnel. 2.2 To serve as a liaison between the MPD and the MMSD's school principals, faculty and students. 2.3 To provide information to school counselors in situations where special services are needed. 2.4 To serve as a resource to the school principal in investigating criminal law violations occurring in the school or on school property. 2.5 To assist school administration and faculty in formulating school emergency response plans. 2.6 To confer with the school principal to develop plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations on or near the school campus or involving students at school related activities. 2.7 To work with other areas of the MPD, including but not limited to the Community Support Services/Speakers Bureau, to formulate educational crime prevention programs to reduce the opportunity for crimes against persons and property in the schools to answer questions that students may have about criminal or juvenile law. 2.8 Develop expertise in presenting various subjects, particularly in meeting federal and state mandates in drug abuse prevention education and shall provide these presentations at the request of the school personnel in accordance with the established curriculum. 2.9 To participate in the Parent-Teacher Association meetings as requested in order to solicit their support and understanding of the School Resource Officer program and to promote awareness of law enforcement functions. 2.10 To coordinate with the Millington Primary School principal and assist with law enforcement activities at the Millington Primary School. 2.1 1 To be aware at all times of the responsibility to improve the image of the uniformed law enforcement officer in the eyes of the students and the community and act in a professional manner. 2.12 To enforce federal, state and local criminal laws and ordinances. 2.13 To assist other law enforcement officers/agencies with outside investigations concerning students attending Millington Primary School and other MMSD schools within Millington Municipal limits. 2.14 To provide traffic control during the arrival and departure of students when a school crossing guard is absent and MPD has no personnel available. 2.15 The SRO is not to be involved in the enforcement of disciplinary infractions that do not constitute violations of the law. 2.16 To take law enforcement action as necessary and notify the school principal...
Duties of School Resource Officers. 5.1 To protect lives and property for the citizens, including SCHOOL DISTRICT students; 5.2 To take law enforcement action as required. The SRO shall conduct his or her law enforcement activities pursuant to all of the POLICE DEPARTMENT’S operating guides, policies, and operation directives, except as otherwise provided in this Agreement. As soon as practical, the SRO shall make the SRO supervisor and/or the SCHOOL DISTRICT’S Safety and Security Coordinator aware of such action, and shall complete all reports as may be required for a Police Officer and transmit said reports or copies of said reports to the POLICE DEPARTMENT. 5.3 To investigate criminal activity committed on or adjacent to school property to include giving assistance to other police officers in matters regarding his or her assignment to the SCHOOL DISTRICT whenever necessary, including the apprehension of criminal suspects engaged in criminal activities and execution of warrants when appropriate. 5.4 To be responsible for determining the need for additional police presence or assistance on campus and will make such request when needed. In the event the SRO requests additional patrol units on campus, he or she will act as the primary unit directing and assisting the additional police units except as otherwise provided by the POLICE DEPARTMENT pursuant to its policies and procedures. 5.5 To provide for the protection of students and staff from negative influences and from criminal conduct, and he or she shall assist in the maintenance of peace and order on the property of the Las Cruces Public Schools. 5.6 To be present at school functions such as athletic events, dances, PTA programs and other school-sponsored events when the SCHOOL DISTRICT’S Safety and Security Coordinator and the SRO Supervisor agree his or her attendance is advantageous to maintaining order in the public schools. The SRO Supervisor will coordinate such activities with the SCHOOL DISTRICT’S Safety and Security Coordinator to minimize the requirement to provide overtime pay. 5.7 To be armed at all times working at the SCHOOL DISTRICT, unless otherwise directed by the POLICE DEPARTMENT’S policies, procedures or directives. 5.8 The SRO Supervisor shall act as an advisor to the SCHOOL DISTRICT’S Safety and Security Coordinator in safety and security matters, violence reduction strategies and legal aspects of the activity of students. 5.9 The SRO Supervisor will assist the Superintendent of Schools and the SCHOOL DISTRICT’S Sa...
