Horizontal Movement. Paragraph 1: All graduate hours not counting toward a master’s degree will be counted toward horizontal movement beyond the MS degree. All graduate hours must be from an accredited university after the B.S. degree.
Horizontal Movement. 19.3.3.1 Courses shall have been given at an accredited institution or through an in-service program and shall have the approval of the Superintendent or designee.
19.3.3.2 Courses shall be those offered for the attainment of a related graduate degree or those specialized courses directly related to the unit member's duties or as approved by the Superintendent.
19.3.3.3 Courses submitted for salary schedule credit are subject to pre- approval by the Superintendent or designee.
19.3.3.4 Evidence of successful completion of the course (official transcript or certificate of completion) shall be submitted directly to the District Human Resources Department.
19.3.3.5 A change in salary schedule placement will be made for a given year or half year providing certification of course completion has been received by October 1 or February 1.
19.3.3.6 A limit of six (6) units per semester or nine (9) credits per quarter will be allowed except for credit earned during the summer. Except for credits earned during leave, the yearly maximum allowance shall be twenty-four (24) semester credits or the equivalent number of quarter credits.
19.3.3.7 Units taken on a quarter system will be converted to semester units by multiplying them by two thirds (2/3) and rounding all fractions to the nearest whole number.
19.3.3.8 Any horizontal movement related to Professional Growth is subject to provisions of Article XXIII.
19.3.3.9 Any workshops or conferences paid for, provided by the District, or on District time shall not be used for salary advancement.
Horizontal Movement. Following initial placement on the salary schedule all hours earned leading to horizontal movement must be approved by the Director. The criteria to be used for approval of credits shall be the improvement of the knowledge or skill of the licensed professional and the needs of the Cooperative. In order for earned credits to qualify a licensed professional for horizontal movement on the salary schedule, the same must be certified to this office of the Director by October 1 of each contract year. A certified transcript or a properly authorized letter verifying the credits earned will be considered suitable evidence to certify the credits.
Horizontal Movement. 1. Course credit for salary schedule movement shall be given for upper division postgraduate, or graduate coursework taken at accredited four-year colleges, universities or graduate schools except as herein provided.
a. Lower division course credit from such colleges may be used up to a maximum of twelve (12) units provided:
(1) the course material is pertinent to the employee's current or prospective assignment;
(2) the course material was not available in upper division or graduate work; and
(3) written approval from the Assistant Superintendent - Human Resources was obtained.
b. An employee may use courses offered by other institutions (e.g. the District, Community Colleges, etc.) where the courses are necessary to satisfy special program requirements (e.g. bilingual) or where it can be demonstrated that they are more beneficial than those available though the institutions noted above.
c. Courses taken through the District shall be given credit for salary schedule movement on the basis of one (1) semester unit for every fifteen (15), or major fraction thereof, clock hours of participation.
d. An employee may use more than twelve (12) units of lower division course credit for salary schedule movement when the courses are necessary to satisfy special program requirements (e.g. bilingual).
e. An employee may use lower division post graduate work taken prior to his/her employment by the District for salary schedule movement up to the limit noted above provided that he/she can show that approval requirements similar to those in Paragraph A, above, were met at the time the courses were taken.
2. Semester hours (units) as defined by the particular accredited college, university, or graduate school will be acceptable for placement on the salary schedule. Quarter hours (units) shall be converted to semester hours (units) by multiplying the total of such hours (units) by two-thirds.
3. Employees requesting a column change must file such request in person with the District Human Resources Office on the appropriate form. Verification must be attached to the request form. Verification must be by means of official transcripts, student copies of transcripts with the registrar's signature, or unaltered official grade reports/credit certificates. Horizontal Movement. Course credit for salary placement and movement shall be given only for post-graduate, upper division, or graduate course work taken at four year colleges, universities, or graduate schools, which confer graduate degrees and which are regionally accredited institutions of higher learning. Such course credit must have been earned after receiving a baccalaureate degree. Credit may also be given in lower division classes which are required for certification in an area in which the teacher is assigned, e.g., bilingual. Semester hours (units) as defined by the particular accredited college or university will be acceptable for placement on the salary schedule. Quarter hours (units) shall be converted to semester hours (units) by multiplying the total of such hours (units) by two-thirds (2/3). College courses taken for salary schedule advancement shall be directly related to the teacher’s teaching major or minor fields of preparation, a subject area presently or previously taught by the teacher, or required for the earning or renewing of a California certification document authorizing public school service. Effective July 1, 2002, at any time during the school year, teachers qualifying for horizontal movement may submit their paperwork whenever all qualifications have been met. Paperwork may only be submitted once during the school year. The salary increase shall be retroactive to the beginning of the pay period in which the paperwork is completed. A declaration of potential movement should be submitted no later than April 30 by current employees or at the time of hire. If an employee fails to submit their declaration by April 30, the salary increase will become effective within three (3) pay periods in which the paperwork is completed. The burden of proof of training, experience, possession of credentials and other required documents shall lie with the teacher, both for initial placement and for subsequent reclassification. Any error in classification shall be corrected as soon as the error is verified. Audit courses will not be accepted as training credits valid for salary schedule placement or reclassification. Credit will not be accepted for course work taken in the armed service, except as it was taken in conjunction with an accredited college or university and can be verified through official transcripts. Horizontal Movement. 14.10.1 Official transcripts from colleges or universities must be received by the Human Resources Office by October 1 of the school year for which horizontal advancement has been requested. An employee who qualifies for horizontal advancement on the salary schedule shall be advanced to the appropriate column and shall then be advanced one vertical step pursuant to the policy for vertical movement.
14.10.2 All college, university and District in-service units shall be approved by the District before being credited for horizontal movement. The criteria for approval shall include the relevance of the courses to the teacher's major and/or minor fields of study and the relevance of the courses to the needs of the District, as those needs pertain to the employee's job description or future assignment in the District.
14.10.3 Quarter units shall be converted to semester units on the basis of three (3) quarter units equaling two (2) semester units.
14.10.4 The DJUSD and DTA agree that unit member salary schedule placement shall include any units beyond the Bachelor’s degree, whether earned before or after the conveyance of the Master’s degree, not to include any units earned as part of the Master’s degree. Therefore, for example, a unit member who earned 30 units prior to the conveyance of the Master’s degree and not included in the Master’s degree shall be placed in the MA+30 column.
Horizontal Movement a. An employee shall advance horizontally on the salary schedule by acquiring additional training.
b. An employee shall advance horizontally on the salary schedule when:
1. Sufficient coursework or higher degree is earned.
2. Satisfactory evidence of such completion is provided to the Employer. Satisfactory evidence shall be an official transcript or a letter of coursework completion issued by the appropriate institution or program.
c. Payment on the new column will be retroactive to the first pay of the year, provided the Employer has been provided satisfactory evidence on or before October 1.
d. Payment on the new column will commence the first pay of the following school year if satisfactory evidence is received after October 1.
Horizontal Movement. 1. With the approval of the Superintendent or designee, Teachers not in a master’s degree program will be permitted to earn graduate course credit sufficient to move to the BA+16 and BA+24 lanes of the salary schedule. With the approval of the Superintendent or designee, Teachers not in a doctoral or second master’s degree program will be permitted to earn graduate course credit sufficient to move to the MA+15 and MA+30 lanes of the salary schedule. Courses may be in the field of the Teacher’s current assignment or in a field which qualifies the Teacher for another assignment in the school District. When submitting requests for approval, Teachers must state the purpose for taking any course outside their current teaching assignment (see Appendix H-11).
2. Teachers shall submit an official transcript no later than October 15th to earn horizontal movement effective for the beginning of the current school year. If so, retroactive pay shall be paid no later than the last pay period in October (see Appendix H-12).
3. Lane movement credit for on-line or correspondence courses shall be limited to thirty (30) semester hours. Courses consisting of instruction through a combination of both on-line and regularly scheduled face-to-face class meetings shall not be considered on-line courses. On-line/correspondence courses completed prior to July 1, 2016 shall be limited to fifteen (15) semester hours.
Horizontal Movement. Column advancement shall occur the 1st day of October, February and/or May after appropriate verification of course completion (grade slip or transcript) is provided to the District. However, column advancement retroactive to the start of the new school year will be allowed if the teacher presents the verification by Oct. 1 of any coursework taken during summer school that previous summer.
