Salary Schedule Credit. Except as provided in Article XII, Military Leave, Sabbatical Leave, Honorary or Fellowship Leaves, and Article VIII, teacher returning from an administrative position, a teacher shall not earn seniority or advancement on the salary schedule during a period of unpaid leave or layoff. A teacher returning to a position following an unpaid leave or layoff, except for those situations referenced in the preceding paragraph, shall resume earning seniority and credit on the salary schedule from the years credited and position on the salary schedule as of the effective date of the leave or layoff.

Salary Schedule Credit. District administration, in its sole discretion, may offer newly hired certified staff up to five years credit on the salary schedule and a signing bonus for positions considered difficult to fill. All such offers must be approved by the Board.
Salary Schedule Credit. 1. All teachers new to the District shall be granted credit for prior full-time teaching experience. A new teacher entering the District shall be placed on the same step of the appropriate guide as a current employee with the same creditable experience. This provision is subject to the starting teacher adjustment identified in the salary schedule. 2. The Board will allow up to four (4) years credit on the salary guide for teachers who have taken leave for military service, the Peace Corps, or the VISTA program.

If no letter grade is issued for a particular course, the teacher must provide documentation from the college/university that the course was passed with a grade of “B” or higher. • Prior to obtaining a Master’s Degree, no more than 12 hours of transcript credit can be undergraduate credit. • After attaining the Master’s level, all undergraduate and graduate courses taken for credit that meet the criteria will be honored. • Once the Master’s Degree is conferred, any salary credit acquired in any area before the Master’s Degree is received is not credited on the salary schedule beyond the Master’s level. In other words, upon earning a Master’s Degree, the teacher would be placed on the Master’s + 0 level. All salary credit earned subsequently then advances such teacher to the Master’s Degree + levels on the salary schedule. • Credit shall not be given for courses which are essentially the same as those for which credit has previously been granted. Approval for such credit is granted only once. • All courses must have the prior written approval of the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources or his/her designee regardless of the reason(s) for taking the course(s). Written approval, using the College Course Approval form, is necessary to request salary schedule credit for each course. • If a course is not approved, a teacher may request an appeal, as it relates to the appropriateness of the course – see C3 Appeal Process. Salary Schedule Credit. 9.6.1 Credits earned shall be usable to meet the requirements for a degree in education or directly applicable to field in which the teacher is teaching. 9.6.2 Special courses for which remuneration is sought are subject to the approval of the Superintendent and/or the Board. 9.6.3 Tuition reimbursement will be at the actual cost of the course, up to the current campus rate per semester hour for a Master’s Degree, based upon the Main Campus rate for Northern Illinois University plus $50.00. The maximum reimbursement in one school year is 3,500.00. If tuition exceeds 3,500.00 per calendar year, upon completion of Master’s Degree, a teacher may be reimbursed up to $1,000.00 per year until all reimbursements are paid for classes taken. Hours beyond the Master’s Degree may also be reimbursed by the District up to current campus rate per semester hour for a Master’s Degree for Northern Illinois for courses that lead to an additional approval on Educator’s License, second Master’s Degree or Doctorate, but not to exceed 6 semester hours per school year. The Superintendent’s decision in this regard is final on undergraduate courses and graduate courses not related to the subject matter being taught by the teacher or designed for improvement of classroom instruction. Employees who resign from the district within three (3) years of achieving a Masters will be expected to reimburse the district for tuition benefit (cost of classes only, not movement on salary schedule). District reserves the right to “dock” pay to make whole. Lane changes will be allowed in September and February. Xxxx changes will be allowed on September 1 if, prior to August 31, the teacher provides the District with the grade transcript or original university grade report. If the documentation provided is a grade report, the teacher shall provide the District with an official transcript by November 1. A February lane change will occur only on the completion of a Masters. For all part-time employees the tuition reimbursement will be reimbursed half of the given rate. Salary Schedule Credit. Credit for movement on the salary schedule shall only be given for coursework from a district approved graduate degree program that is directly related to the educator’s current assignment. Exceptions to this policy may be considered and granted by the Superintendent or designee at the sole discretion of the Administration. Educators may take coursework outside their current assignment, but no credit will be given on the salary schedule when the coursework is completed. At such time that such educator might move into a position that matches the coursework, credit on the salary schedule will be given for the coursework if it is directly applicable to the new position.

Salary Schedule Credit. A teacher who returns from child care leave within the provisions of this Section shall retain all previous salary schedule credit for pay purposes and any unused leave time accumulated under the provisions of this agreement at the commencement of the beginning of the leave. The teacher shall accrue additional experience credit for pay purposes, if they work at least 1072 hours during the school year in which the leave is taken.
